Brother 100% I'm playing it right now and while it's not my favorite ff the summons look amazing. I just finished rebirth and while amazing they just didn't wow me like ffxvi summons
Also game does well in making you/clive feel like he's special and powerful
I like Ifrit's design in a vacuum, but I feel like he tends to get lit so that a lot of the details get lost in shadow so he frequently ends up just looking like a grayish brownish smudge
https://preview.redd.it/c5amx78fq1xc1.jpeg?width=735&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7ea850c82926c0a76461416ba13efe323c8b24c7
Final fantasy x Shiva is my favourite version of her, the dreadlocks and the iconic snap of fingers are just sooooo good.
https://preview.redd.it/j7j50jk131xc1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5be604351f234127961abcad6cb49048d12d7a43
>!gentiana's reveal!< was honestly one of my favorites. her design is ethereal, and the way she >!froze ardyn while he was in the middle of one of his many asinine monologues!< was incredibly satisfying and badass.
Came here to say this. She provided such a moment of hope after things got so dark (pun intended) so quickly. This was one of my favourite moments in the whole game.
I got the achievement pop before I saw the photo in my library and was like “WHAT?” Only to literally end up with her in so many photos by the end of the game it was funny
Along with Jill/Shiva from FFXVI, Ysayle/Shiva from FFXIV is one of the best. Not only is she one of, if not, the strongest Shiva, but her story is important to the larger narrative of the game. She isn't just a random summon, that's there. The mullet design is a bit odd, but she still looks amazing. At least you can see what they were attempting with her hair, lol.
FFXIV Eden Ryne Shiva. Not only does Ryne dual wield but she literally changes dresses which change her mechanics and has a naked dragon mode.
Also she obviously inspired XVI Shiva since same devs
Same! Might have my nostalgia googles on though. But its the only one I actually remember in full. When she does her full back arch thing. lol.
And then I like ffx shiva design.
Say what you will about the motorcycle thing, but Shiva Stiria and Shiva Nix have pretty cool designs.
https://preview.redd.it/6r4tohe5v0xc1.jpeg?width=875&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=05538deda5568a90d42d791e68d300f895a7f6be
Nothing gives me chills (lol) like FFXIV during the >!sacrifice of Ysayle when she turns into Shiva to take out the imperial dreadnought!<. Like, the cutscene, the music, the dramatic lead up to everything is jaw-dropping. One of my favorite scenes in Heavensward, a game with a fuck ton of memorable scenes.
FF XIV Shiva, and her human incarnation Iceheart. I mean, she got busy with a dragon (Romantically, you pervs).
And her boss battle has one of the best "Drop the bass" moments up to that point in the game.
And she goes out like a boss, battling an imperial flagship.
Even in human form she's intrigueing.
Hands down, Shiva Sisters from FFXIII were peak design. Literally every other Shiva was just a blue woman in a bikini, (still awesome though), but the fact there were 2 of them, that they could scissor into a motorcycle, was very funny and edgy for its time. (plus the recolour in XIII-2 was also cool, though I was pissed they weren't in the actual game) Shiva from FFXV is a close second with how she could split into a ton of little Shivas, and the whole Gentiana thing, freezing Ardyn on the train was very badass.
I really wished that Final Fantasy 16 was the story of the "Summons" and that it would have tied the entire mythos together in a subtle way. And then after 16, every game from there on out using the summons would have been the ones from 16. Like, I would have loved to have seen the Ifrit and Shiva from 16 battle alongside Cloud and gang.
I know I know, it's not cannon and maybe it wouldn't have worked which is why they probably didn't do it (yet that we know of) but it was just a fantasy that I had.
Design changes are fine, but a little nod to recognize that "hey all these summons are still part of something more grand beyond this one stand alone game" makes for an interesting narrative.
Why would the Summon appear in this specific game? What huge impact would this story have in the overall universe/reality? They could even have a story thread throughout the entire series where the summons had their own agendas and by helping a protagonist in a certain game it further said agenda. It could even lead into a new Dissidia game.
I mean technically both 16 and 7 Remakes touch on the ideas that there is Eldritch/Ancient things at work beyond the realities our protagonists are given.
But each game uses summons differently to the lore if each world and some games different summons appear while others don't. It's far more interesting starting from Fresh than trying to keep a continuity that contradicts the new world that is established.
Nah, keep cooking. Your idea is great.
I would have loved if they made a TRUE backstory for all the summons, it could tie into the overall mythology of every game in the franchise. Kinda like how The Legend of Zelda does it with each game being part of the legend of Link, Zelda and Ganon and their ancestral reincarnations.
I liked 16 as a game. But didn't really understand how the summons all became like that because of... aliens.
Thanks!
I did enjoy playing with the Eikons of 16. Some of the highest highs of cinematic boss battles. But I swear when I saw the first reveal trailer I thought the "idea" I had was what they were going for to begin with.
It would have made all the stories of FF more interesting, like the Gods or summons of the bigger picture staring at whatever Final Fantasy world/reality needed help and them intervening during key moments. 15 was a great example of that idea and I was hoping they built off of that.
Yeah 15, 13, 10 and 9 all integrated their summons in very natural and diagetic ways to the story that felt great. I would consider them my personal favourites. Like they were treated as real mythological entities that have existed long before the events of the story or the world.
I'm right there with you. I genuinely thought and hoped that 16 was the game that established the principal origin of the summons or at the very least, set the precedent for future summons.
Like every incarnation of Ifrit in FF games, contained Clive's will/spirit or something like that.
I dunno I think it would be kind of pointless. Trying to tie all the games together like that would inevitably end up convoluted and start sounding like cheap stretches for the sake of lore theory bait, particularly when you consider that individual games sometimes have their own backstories for summons. Not to mention it could restrict future games if the devs feel they have to stick to it.
They can just make it a multiverse thing and tie it together through some big overarching cosmic force. The Dissidia games literally do this.
They can be as imaginative as they want with nothing integral actually lost.
My bad. Meant to say that the one on the right is from VII Remake & Rebirth. Wrote that response while watching some playoff hockey last night, so I guess I didn’t check it as throughly as I should’ve
FF 16 summons are truly on another level. Rebirth is definitely a better game. But 16 had the better cinematic scenes and the summons were a huge part of that, starting right in the beginning with the Shiva vs Titan and Phoenix vs Ifrit scenes.

FFXV's Shiva is still my favourite Shiva design. I really like the very subtle snowflake pattern on her limbs and the zero-gravity organza-ribbons.
10 is the best. The 7 Remake is good, but she looks too much like Tilda Swinton.
https://preview.redd.it/0r2x782q02xc1.jpeg?width=230&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=91cb259d461a1b7634e0876a7927032ed80a07a4
Shiva in X with her entrance and her Diamond Dust attack are fantastic.
I may be one of the few, but I liked the sisters version in XIII. The transformation and (again) the entrance and Diamond Dust attack were all great.
The summons in XVI in general are peak designs
Not only the design, they give them so much personality, that now when I see a summon in other FF title, I consider them as their XVI counterparts.
Brother 100% I'm playing it right now and while it's not my favorite ff the summons look amazing. I just finished rebirth and while amazing they just didn't wow me like ffxvi summons Also game does well in making you/clive feel like he's special and powerful
They're all amazing except, ironically, Ifrit lol. He's great except his face looks to much like a dog for me.
The moment I saw him I instantly thought Godzilla. Same face and nose.
His roar sometimes sounds similar to godzilla too. definitely my favorite ifrit design.
Holy shit especially the one scene where Ifrit more or less grinned. That’s the same goofy ass smile that Godzilla had in GvK
I love dog ifrit!
I like Ifrit's design in a vacuum, but I feel like he tends to get lit so that a lot of the details get lost in shadow so he frequently ends up just looking like a grayish brownish smudge
Like a piece of burnt charcoal.😅
How important and impactful ekions are in XVI is how I always want them. Fucking massive and just wrecking shit.
https://preview.redd.it/c5amx78fq1xc1.jpeg?width=735&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7ea850c82926c0a76461416ba13efe323c8b24c7 Final fantasy x Shiva is my favourite version of her, the dreadlocks and the iconic snap of fingers are just sooooo good.
That snap is a big mode
The moment she snapped, I realized I was gay and wanted to be as fierce as her.
Diva Shiva
Ditto!
https://preview.redd.it/vqsq1qvsz0xc1.jpeg?width=512&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4186b63aa5f840ff33ccc1ef25759c0237ff8bd7 Ryne
I love the music that accompanies this fight.. TUURN THE LIGHT ON!!!
Oblivion from the first shiva was a banger too
You’re right.. Oblivion is a banger as well, the iconic snap that everyone loves from X is in that fight too just before the music drops.
And it’s a heel click for that one. So cool.
The Eden summons are so cool and unique
I wish summoners had the ability to change their summons to the forms of the Eden Primals. ATV Titan for the win.
There are mods for that
I play on PS5. So no mods for me.
F
Yeah. And the computer I have really wouldn't be able to handle FFXIV. And I'm not about to invest in a high end PC just so I can get mods for FFXIV.
Oh yeah, that's right! Her Shiva form is soooo cool. Great series
Lenneth?
https://preview.redd.it/j7j50jk131xc1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5be604351f234127961abcad6cb49048d12d7a43 >!gentiana's reveal!< was honestly one of my favorites. her design is ethereal, and the way she >!froze ardyn while he was in the middle of one of his many asinine monologues!< was incredibly satisfying and badass.
Came here to say this. She provided such a moment of hope after things got so dark (pun intended) so quickly. This was one of my favourite moments in the whole game.
She is a troll too. She photobombs a lot of your pictures
I got the achievement pop before I saw the photo in my library and was like “WHAT?” Only to literally end up with her in so many photos by the end of the game it was funny
I came to say the same haha, great minds
When she freezes and shatters Ifrit in the final battle. That shit was so epic, it was finally a summon vs. summon.
Said what i wanted. My favorite one
I like full bush shiva from Viii
VIII also had full bush Siren
Along with Jill/Shiva from FFXVI, Ysayle/Shiva from FFXIV is one of the best. Not only is she one of, if not, the strongest Shiva, but her story is important to the larger narrative of the game. She isn't just a random summon, that's there. The mullet design is a bit odd, but she still looks amazing. At least you can see what they were attempting with her hair, lol.
Man I actually almost cried watching her final moments flying in with Hraesvelgr
Definitely not the strongest, because Ryne's version is far stronger since she also imbued with Hydaelyn
Mine are 15 and 14 ryne shiva
FFXIV Eden Ryne Shiva. Not only does Ryne dual wield but she literally changes dresses which change her mechanics and has a naked dragon mode. Also she obviously inspired XVI Shiva since same devs
They kind of took XIV Shiva's main thing, and made all of the Summons in XVI work that way.
VIII. Still the best Shiva for me.
I'd love to see FFVIII get the same treatment as FFVIIR Shiva. She's always been top tier Shiva.
8's designs were absolutely top tier. Whenever I thought of any summon, 8's versions always came to my mind by default.
Thought I was alone with that. Thanks~
Seeing Ifrit react to her summon when you fight him was peak as a kid
When she opens her eyes and the ice shatters... easily my favorite when I first played it and the game had me hooked.
Same! Might have my nostalgia googles on though. But its the only one I actually remember in full. When she does her full back arch thing. lol. And then I like ffx shiva design.
Yes she's still the bush Shiva for me as well.
Dissidia NT, XV and XVI my fav versions
FFX for the snap
Love that shit
https://preview.redd.it/3je803mvz1xc1.jpeg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=df16564c722b07f79f6f3824d1aa7166736b518d
FFX Shiva is a queen
Say what you will about the motorcycle thing, but Shiva Stiria and Shiva Nix have pretty cool designs. https://preview.redd.it/6r4tohe5v0xc1.jpeg?width=875&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=05538deda5568a90d42d791e68d300f895a7f6be
The transformers take on summons is such a cool and creative one
While I'm in the mindset these are probably way down the list for me, it isn't last. I give that award to Type-0.
7 Remake and 15 I liked
https://preview.redd.it/8dl2ngfrc2xc1.jpeg?width=853&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=41cfd5903fddb86a4278be80edcca1ce74e8aac2

XVI Shiva was so awesome... in the opening scene and she just generally seemed tired for the rest of the game. Loved the design though.
Be real there's no way she let it end at romantically, Ishgardians' dragon blood had to come from somewhere
I think canonically she got eaten by Hraesvalgr
Where’s the Shiva on the right from?
7 Remake
Oh.
I love Jill in XVI. I wish they let us fight as her for a battle or two.
Final Fantasy 14's version of Shiva. Primarily I liked Ysale and she was very similar to the Eikons from 16.
Ysale made me cry
https://preview.redd.it/7t2swovz72xc1.jpeg?width=899&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=450e947906ccabceee3a81a006abb0be283000a0
Shiva in XV was hot as fuck
Yeah… this
Light Cruiser Class Airship Shiva from Final Fantasy XII. I liked the design and I have a love for airships.
Is Shiva on the right... Gwyneth Paltrow?
VIII, XV, XVI are perfection
FFXV has a special place in my heart. The train scene was... 👌🧐
I like how you stated the honorable mention one's game but not which FF the two in the picture are from. Are they both from FFVII Remake ?
One on the right is indeed from FFVII Remake One on the left is from FFXVI
Thank you friend
15 cause soft
X's Shiva is my favourite with XV's a close 2nd.
Hands down, Shiva Sisters from FFXIII were peak design. 16 absolutely
The shivas from FFXIV.
I prefer FF XVII Shiva
Shiva in tactics made me feel things.
i like shiva ff xvi more beautiful
Bahamut from ffX is just so amazing
All summons in FFxvi are the best. Rebirth is my favorite FF ever but they’re using the OG designs for the most part
These are my two favorite versions as well. They're both amazing. I have a soft spot for Jill though since learning of her personality.
I wish the motorcycle twins from FF13 were an actual travel option. Coolest of the landbased Eidolon options, by far.
F7 and 9 Shiva for me
ff8 shiva is my og shiva but my favorite is the two from ff14
I really like FF15's Shiva, she probably has the prettiest model imo
FFX and FFXV
X and XIV.
14, 8 and 10 in that order for me
https://preview.redd.it/eqql8qsoc4xc1.png?width=853&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=573831e03efc99e5021f5389fd6d35223652e1f0
Which ff are these from?
The left is XVI. I’m not sure about the right. Gotta be VII rebirth or XV maybe?
Late, but the one on the left is from XVI and the one on the left is from VII Remake & Rebirth.
Two lefts?
What about the Shiva Sisters, Nix and Stiria.
I raise you Shiva FFX
FFX Shiva. That girl is 😮💨😮💨😮💨 she will always remain my favorite
Jill used up 99% of her usefulness on her very first cutscene
https://preview.redd.it/psqqrcg2v6xc1.png?width=1326&format=png&auto=webp&s=12fba49565e502125b6134b19131e622041fce03 FFXV's Shiva is still my favourite Shiva design. I really like the very subtle snowflake pattern on her limbs and the zero-gravity organza-ribbons.
FF8 and FF15 Shiva
Forever Jill.
It’s still X’s for me, but XVI’s is really good too.
I actually don't really care for XVI's Shiva's design. The coloring is weird to me.
FFX for sure, even got that variation tattoo'd on me
10 is the best. The 7 Remake is good, but she looks too much like Tilda Swinton. https://preview.redd.it/0r2x782q02xc1.jpeg?width=230&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=91cb259d461a1b7634e0876a7927032ed80a07a4
Oh god now I can't unsee that.
FF7(Original, not Remake or Rebirth and whatever other titles they come up with moving forward) Aaaaaand FF8!!
FFX for the massive dreads and sassy snap. XVI and Remake come close though.
X and XVI shivas
X and XVI
Shiva in X with her entrance and her Diamond Dust attack are fantastic. I may be one of the few, but I liked the sisters version in XIII. The transformation and (again) the entrance and Diamond Dust attack were all great.
X and 16 are both my favs
Rebirth's Shiva is fiercer and better designed.
Since that wasn’t a simulator summon in rebirth I never saw her, despite multiple playthroughs lol. I should probably try summoning her
