I am in the mountains of western North Carolina. They are everywhere around here. More so if you go off trail but I've seen them crossing high traffic trails many times too. Good thing is the trails are usually beaten down and either dirt or stone so they are easy to spot on bare dirt/stone. Less easy when adventuring off trail...like I was doing when I took this picture.
Took this picture 8+years ago. Long before I knew of this sub or likely before it was even around. Next one I come across I will offset it more to give more of a challenge.
Fortunately we don’t see them as much in Jersey, we have them but not in numbers. I’ve seen as many Copperheads on my trips to N.C. as Ive seen in 55 years of roaming the woods and the Barrens of the great Garden State.
NC near Lake Lure, our Dax hound was bit in the upper lip. I think tue tooth went thought the lip and was injected in her mouth instead of the bloodstream. We were so lucky.
Copperheads have a 65-75% wet bite ratio. One of the highest among venomous snakes in the US. The big rattlesnakes are usually 30-50% wet. That means you have a higher chance of a dry bite when you startle them. Not the case for copperheads. That isn't to say a dry bite doesn't hurt like hell but it usually means antivenom isn't needed. That stuff is crazy expensive. Sounds like your dog either had a through and through like you think or it was a dry bite. Both are very fortunate.
u/Notlost-justdontcare there's a few things wrong with this. One you can't just say "it" you have to say what we're looking for so we know it's rule 2 of the subreddit and two the sniper can't be in the middle it makes it too easy to find and three it can't be clearly visible it has to be more hidden.
Maybe a picture like it but never this picture. First time I've posted it to reddit. Showed my friends some 5-10 years ago when I first took the picture. Had to dig through my Google photo storage to even find the thing :-)
Dead center
Copperhead?
Yeah. They are as numerous as squirrels where I live. 😊
Where do they live? After seeing how sneaky they are I plan on not coming by

This is why I live in Western Washington State. We only gave gardener snakes.
Spotted it right away, but I need to know whether you're a man or a bear.
Negative. I am a Meat Popsicle.
Don't put it dead center and people won't find it so fast lol

Too easy!
It’s easy to see

As a life long hiker, I am pleased to discover I am good at this game.
It was quick but probably a fluke

Thanks. My next post will be more difficult and follow the rules you mentioned. 👍
Ooh damn I’m happy I saw it but damn I would’ve been dead had it not been dead center
Found it right away but we should go on a hike I’ve done afew times because I’ve seen this picture multiple times.
