I'm not from the east but in the Midwest if I saw that fin I would immediately think it was a grass carp

Most likely Carp

wilson_4945

Do carp get that big? Easily 3+ft

Rsubs33

Yes carp get that big, canned corn is your best bet for carp.

Southern_Country_787

I imagined myself throwing a whole ass can of unopened corn into the water lol

Gustav55

I mean that might work if you actually hit them.

nourthensoul

Or floating bread crust

shotty293

Used to have schools of +3ft grass carp in our subdivision lake. It was insane. They're all gone now.

wilson_4945

And if so how do I catch it? I fish this pond for bass, nothing is getting its attention, top waters, snekos, swim baits, cranks, nothing

user123456789011

Yes, they definitely get that big. I’ve never personally targeted carp, but I’ve heard people use bread or corn on a hook.

jussumguy25

Carp can be incredibly hard to catch because they can spit stuff out so quickly. At least in the Midwest where I live, you can dangle a hook full of corn to the point where you can’t see the hook and they won’t touch it. I’m told it’s because they can see the line and know not to mess with it. Even when they do bite it, if they sense a hook they’ll spit it faster than you can set the hook. I fish a marina from time to time and will see huge carp in a few feet of water and can’t for the life of me catch them

benjamino8690

They mostly eat natural bait. I’d suggest bread, corn or boilies.

Ryan-the-fish

I personally think good old night crawlers are the best bait for them. Also a lot easier to keep on the hook than bread, corn, ect. Only problem is the by catch.

genZcommentary

Grass carp are mostly herbivorous. I'd fish corn, bread, or cherry tomatoes on a hair rig. They're very easily spooked so be stealthy about it!

trogger13

Their bottom feeders, moving bait isn't really going to get their attention. You can look up carp rigs online, but most are just to get your hook to sit on the lake bed, but top water can be done most definitely, someone else had said bread which works great. They're fun as hell to catch as they give a good fight typically.

catskill_mountainman

When carp are feeding at the surface like that, you can free line bread or fly fish for them. Just pinch some bread with crust on a hook w/ no sinker. Throw some small bread balls out and wait until the carp feels comfortable and starts to eat. Then cast your bread ball past the carp and slowly reel right in front of its fish. When it takes it, wait a couple seconds, then set the hook. When they are feeding on the bottom, sweet corn thrown out and a few kernels on a hook will work. Be careful because catching carp can cause carp fever... You'll be hooked to the fight.

gebronie27

Now what line you using?

catskill_mountainman

If I were sight casting bread, I would probably use a lighter monofilament. When fishing on the bottom, I use 15lb mono with a braid hair rig.

jar11591

Grass carp. They like to shark it on the surface
