At my local store there is the following: 24k scale compasses but only sells maps that are 100k scale, so clearly whoever chooses their inventory is a complete idiot who couldn't pass a test for boy scouts and can't even use a map and compass. Their backpacks are all trash. Absolute trash. Nothing with dyneema, no good drybags, they don't have ANY redeeming bags. No Nalgene bottles or popular water bladders, brands that use low quality materials, too much YETI. Their tents are all trash too. Even the stuff aimed at ultralight is garbage. No quality tarps. No quality footprints. Overpriced, small, crappy selection of camp meals chosen by someone who knows nothing about camp meals. The camp equipment in general was chosen by an idiot, they have good brands but don't have their best products, instead have weird stuff that was clearly higher profit margin and chosen purely for that. Weird stuff like a camp lantern that's not compatible with any of the fuel they sell. NOT A SINGLE PAIR OF REAL GLOVES IN THE ENTIRE STORE. Need gloves to chop wood or maintain a fire or anything else? NOPE. What a fucking joke lmao. The vast majority of the clothing in the store is for out-of-shape alcoholics with huge guts, and wears very wide and short. So if you're tall, you have to purchase what's basically a tent of a shirt. I stopped shopping there because I don't just walk 5 minutes from a truck to a tree stand, I actually need equipment that doesn't fail me and doesn't weigh me down, of which they have almost nothing. They have tons of lures though! lmao, a massive two-storey building mostly going to waste because the person in charge of their inventory is spineless and has never been outside. Also, I know this is a meme sub. I don't care, they asked to struggle now the CEO is blaming americans. Maybe you should have hired someone who knows how to go outside. Selling 24k compasses and only 100k maps is the very definition of incompetent. You, officially, know less than actual children.

On top of all that my closest one carries basically all whitetail and bass gear….. we do have both whitetail and bass in the PNW but 99% of hunting and fishing here is neither of those.

Good point, I also forgot they have too many compound bows and only TWO traditional bows out of box, on display, being manhandled all day. I bet someone at corporate goes "well, those two never sell, so we shouldn't get more."

Dorjechampa_69

As soon as they turned fishing into big giant stupid competitions, we all knew this would happen. Just like coffee. As soon as someone turned coffees into sodas, well here comes Starbucks. Starbucks just hasn’t failed yet.

BonanzaBlyant

Noooooooooooo! I have never seen a bass pro shop in my life

Dorjechampa_69

Not missing much. Go to an aquarium, it’s funner and cheaper.

I went to one a couple weeks back to check out their rod inventory and was not impressed. It's a bunch of Bass Pro brand rods, which I wasn't interested in. Their kayak selection wasn't that great either.

drollchair

Ever since they’ve only started selling their own kayaks is basically pointless to shop there for yak related things.

PreviousMotor58

I totally agree. The Ascend Kayak's are not that great for what they sell them for. I'd rather get a standard metal jon boat or one of those plastic pond prowlers versus an Ascend Yak. They used to have high end rods that you could buy in store, but I guess that's all online now too.

I remember browsing the st Croix and loomis offerings years ago, now it really is all cheap crap unfortunately. I only get reels and terminal tackle there now really.

Good! At this point I'm sick of going to bass pro with a small list of what I consider basic essentials only to leave with half of what I set out to get because they either didn't have a size, color, or just didn't have it period when every other store has it. I drive from a rural town usually too and it's when I actually need some stuff in the city so it always feels like a waste of time and I should've just ordered it.
