This. It basically has to be an outside consult or something. Since he survived the women's Basketball/Soccer scandals, Golden probably buys him a bit of slack but this Fall could be really hard for him if things go South
Clearly we are focused on adding defensive guys this cycle over offensive like last year. Hopefully we can get Walt and Will to take another step as we are going to need them to score
I kind of agree with this- at least in major sports (not a criticism of Sully, not every year is your year and attrition be it injuries or the draft have all but killed this season).
I'm not trying to kick a hornets nest or anything, but I am kind of confused as to why we should be so hyped right now? We got a guy who is ranked in the 30-50 range on the portal ranks I have looked at, and two more guys who are not ranked on any list (except Alexis at 30 on on3 but not ranked anywhere else).
Not that they aren't going to be useful guys to get, but I don't see where the 'abolutely cooking' or 'portal god' stuff is coming from.
As far as I can tell the rankings don't mean a whole lot.
For example I checked last years and for On3 they had Clayton Jr. at 22, Handlogten at 41, Pullin at 59, and Samuel at 175 (lmao). 247 only shows the top 25 and none of our guys made that one. I think the key is we're addressing needs with guys who have a good combination of experience, production, and potential.
I don't disagree that the portal rankings are highly flawed, that's fair. It would still lend to logic that 'absolutely cooking' and 'portal god' would mean we're getting the top ranked guys and not counting on lower ranked guys overperforming again.
Why be concerned about rankings (that everyone knows are flawed) when we can just look at what the dude did at this level
He had 13.4ppg on the final four FAU team and his overall stats have remained consistent for 3 straight years. He is 3x all conference and made the all tournament team last year
He was the best player at his position in the tourney last year but isn't good enough for 247 to rank highly? Comon now. This ain't highschoolers where we have to kind of guess how they'll translate to the higher level. We have actual evidence. If those services rank him poorly then the services are wrong
Ok, so there is simply no objective way to judge and it's all just based on wanting to feel good. It would be a lot easier if we just described it like that from the beginning.
Objectively he has been the best at his position in the conference 3 straight years and the best in the tournament last year
Trying to make him seem worse is based on unobjective need to feel bad rather than anything you can point towards. You can point towards objective things that make him seem good
Huge pickup and is a huge part of why FAU made it to the final four in 2023.
Huge pickup
I was hoping we'd get him. Top transfer pickup. If we get Clayton back, this is top 10 team w/ deep run potential
Portal god Todd strikes again. Martin will fit what we need to do like a glove.
The Toddfather is cooking. Can't wait to keep watching him here.
One of the most underappreciated of Goldens talent is he doesn't let these kids leave once they visit.
The golden era is officially an unironic statement.
Building something special
Never forget a ton of yall wanted this man gone about a year ago...
Anime who said that after 1 year is an idiot. But not surprising.
People thought Golden was the final straw for Stricklin’s job but I think he bought him some time with this one
I like Golden. But Strickland can absolutely not be the one hiring our next Football coach
This. It basically has to be an outside consult or something. Since he survived the women's Basketball/Soccer scandals, Golden probably buys him a bit of slack but this Fall could be really hard for him if things go South
We got them all?! Youre kidding
This guys experience along with his production are elite level, so excited for this pickup
Maybe Todd should do some recruiting for Billy
Billy will be fine in the recruiting department if he can have some success on the field.
Pretty massive if, he's in a huge hole and he really needs to show something this year
I don’t know what this dude is pitching but it’s working
You mean to say… these kids are catching? 👀
He’s pitching fastballs down the middle.
Also, Todd knows Clayton does his best work not as the primary ball handler
Is this guy a primary ballhandler? Idk much about him but he only averaged 1.6 assists last year
He going to get a shot at it for sure
I didn't think so.
Golden is cooking, let’s goooo
Clearly we are focused on adding defensive guys this cycle over offensive like last year. Hopefully we can get Walt and Will to take another step as we are going to need them to score
Golden said fuck it, I’m building a Death Star.
Huge get.
Todd is the only one giving me happiness right now from Florida sports
And Jac
I kind of agree with this- at least in major sports (not a criticism of Sully, not every year is your year and attrition be it injuries or the draft have all but killed this season).
Todd on some executive chef level cooking
Love this add this dude will guard his ass off, total lockdown defender unlike we have seen in a guard in a long, long time

Who do you trust more to evaluate talent, a NCAA head coach making millions or some crusty old dudes who probably never played ball in their life?

Only if Billy did half as much recruiting with his giant staff.
???
