Truth! I was going to use Bonilla but I think Griffey is on the Reds’ “books” for slightly less years than Bonilla is on the Mets.’
If it counted against the cap, good lord. Not that this situation wasn’t/isn’t a bunch of f***ery, but man, that’d be ultimate f***ery.
The flyers getting bryz wasnt the problem it was trading carter and richards after we almost won a cup cause they “partied” too much in their 20s after the flyers made them rich as fuck. Flyers have been fucking morons for 15 yrs. Bryz just got caught up in our shittiness
Preach! Career .912 SV%, which is better than any Flyers goalie since Hart in 2019-2020
Even just taking his .905 SV% from his time with the Flyers, that number has been *barely* beaten by Hart (and one tiny season sample of Sandstrom) in the last 4 years
Roman Cechmanek (RIP) had not only the best SV% in Flyers history, but one of the top in history league-wide, and even he was largely unappreciated here
Checkmanek couldn't have pissed off Snider and a blue collar fan base more with his bullshit antics at the end of his tenure which distorts the perception of his entire career with the team.
Mr. Bean was the man
Oddly enough, on the flipside of the coin, the other day I looked back on some stats, and Pelle Lindbergh, ever venerated in our fanbase, wasn't too statistically impressive.
He was so fucking good for no reason for a few years. The defense in front of him was egregious
A jersey I'll wear proudly for a long time. Still the best goalie we've had since hextall who isn't a piece of shit
Mason had a .928 behind a defense of Mark Streit, MDZ, Nick Schultz, Nick Grossman, Luke Schenn, Andy Mac, and Coburns final season...
He did that behind a #2, a #4 and like 5 #6 or #7Ds.
Eh... At least this iteration bottomed out. Our 1 prospect left, but we did get 2 picks of the same level or Higher than in the previous rebuild already.
Oh for sure, and I loved Mason. I honestly thought he was our long-term solution at the time. I just didn’t dig that far back when comparing Bryz stats lol
Statistically, he was not bad with Philly, but not great either. Steve Mason was actually a solid upgrade by nearly every metric. That was the real eye-opener to come out of it. I was one of Mason's biggest haters, but he really revived his career in Philly.
Bryzgalov was the Tobias Harris of the Flyers - hated more for being overpaid and locking the team out of acquiring better players than for being outright bad himself.
You gotta watch the games man. Tobias was unplayable for large stretches this year and was god-awful in the playoffs like he usually is. 0 points in an elimination game is the only stat you really need to know. Oh, and ZERO charges drawn in 5 years.
Was a good goalie. We did the typical flyers thing and got him on his career downswing. Arizona pretty much told him good luck, cause a solid defense can shore up a goalies numbers.
Have we had a good defense since pronger and timonen? I think we’ve massively let our goaltenders down since them and in the years between them and desjardins
Not as bad as he's remembered, but certainly not good.
His final season here only half of his starts were quality starts. The dude did not care about hockey, and many players on the coyotes said something to the effect of "you'll see"
He's the NHL version of Anthony rendon
Well we basically paid for this kids hockey training and equipment his whole life.
We're STILL paying for it, I think another 3 more years
Bryz is the Flyers’ Ken Griffey Junior.
Our very own Bobby Bonilla. At least it doesn't count against the cap.
Truth! I was going to use Bonilla but I think Griffey is on the Reds’ “books” for slightly less years than Bonilla is on the Mets.’ If it counted against the cap, good lord. Not that this situation wasn’t/isn’t a bunch of f***ery, but man, that’d be ultimate f***ery.
Why hef be mad? Is only salary.
alright man this legit made me spit out my drink well done
Still paying
The flyers getting bryz wasnt the problem it was trading carter and richards after we almost won a cup cause they “partied” too much in their 20s after the flyers made them rich as fuck. Flyers have been fucking morons for 15 yrs. Bryz just got caught up in our shittiness
Problem was getting Bryzgalov AND trading Bobrovsky.
We woulda ruined his career too
Wow, small universe
Humangus smol
👏
If they draft him, there is a small chance they can have him on an ELC while still paying his father.
That sound you hear is "Mr. *Schnieder*" turning over in his grave.
It's only draft. Why you heff to be mad?
Is only kid, why you heff to be mad?
This is the time I like to remind everyone bryz was a good goalie
Preach! Career .912 SV%, which is better than any Flyers goalie since Hart in 2019-2020 Even just taking his .905 SV% from his time with the Flyers, that number has been *barely* beaten by Hart (and one tiny season sample of Sandstrom) in the last 4 years

Chechmanek was an underrated goalie.
Checkmanek couldn't have pissed off Snider and a blue collar fan base more with his bullshit antics at the end of his tenure which distorts the perception of his entire career with the team.
Correct. But it was a damn good career.
Mr. Bean was the man Oddly enough, on the flipside of the coin, the other day I looked back on some stats, and Pelle Lindbergh, ever venerated in our fanbase, wasn't too statistically impressive.
Compared to today, yes, but most goalies stats were pretty horrible back then. I think with adjusted stats they'd be pretty great
Yeah you just gotta look at Hextall winning the Vezina in ‘87 with a .902 SV% and realize things were different lol
Wait what? Cechmanek is dead?
yep, died rather recently
Longest shut out streak in flyers history too I believe
Mason had a better SV% at least when in Philly. But yeah, Flyers fans are always too harsh on goalies.
Stone Cold Steve Mason was low-key awesome.
Steve Mason is NUMBER THREE all time for wins by Flyers goalies. What's even crazier is Carter Hart is number 4.
Loved Mased God
He was so fucking good for no reason for a few years. The defense in front of him was egregious A jersey I'll wear proudly for a long time. Still the best goalie we've had since hextall who isn't a piece of shit
His mask game was legendary too.
Mason had a .928 behind a defense of Mark Streit, MDZ, Nick Schultz, Nick Grossman, Luke Schenn, Andy Mac, and Coburns final season... He did that behind a #2, a #4 and like 5 #6 or #7Ds.
Yeah he's often overlooked for some reason. He was incredible as a Flyer, and very underappreciated.
It's because he was here during the retooling G and Vorachek years. They were never good enough to do anything but too good to truly tank.
Sounds...oddly familiar to nowadays, haha
Those were inflated by the era he played in and playing in front of great defenses in Anaheim and Arizona.
Statistically, he was not bad with Philly, but not great either. Steve Mason was actually a solid upgrade by nearly every metric. That was the real eye-opener to come out of it. I was one of Mason's biggest haters, but he really revived his career in Philly.
Every year it seems I have at least one player on both the Flyers and Sixers that I irrationally don't like. He was one of them.
Bryzgalov was the Tobias Harris of the Flyers - hated more for being overpaid and locking the team out of acquiring better players than for being outright bad himself.
This is such an applicable description.
Tobias is a worse player but good comparison.
Tobias is outright bad tho
For a guy on a max contract, yeah. If he was paid appropriately? Not really. He's a career 17.2 PPG scorer with above average efficiency metrics.
You gotta watch the games man. Tobias was unplayable for large stretches this year and was god-awful in the playoffs like he usually is. 0 points in an elimination game is the only stat you really need to know. Oh, and ZERO charges drawn in 5 years.
So the Nick Castellanos of the Flyers
That is also a good comparison, though the nature of the sports makes Castellanos underpeforming his contract less impactful on the team as a hole.
He was average and paid like he was elite. Bryz absolutely underperformed here.
He was pretty okay, but the contract they gave him certainly wasn't.
Are you suggesting that ~~coconuts are migratory?~~ Philly fans can be overly knee-jerk at times?
Was a good goalie. We did the typical flyers thing and got him on his career downswing. Arizona pretty much told him good luck, cause a solid defense can shore up a goalies numbers.
Have we had a good defense since pronger and timonen? I think we’ve massively let our goaltenders down since them and in the years between them and desjardins

why you heff to be dad?
Take a flier on him. Why not? It’d be hilarious.
We have to draft this kid. I hope he has 10% of his dad's wit.
I just hope he's good, I don't care if he's like a cigar store Indian during a presser
They could both be on the payroll at the same time
If we can we trade Michkov to get a higher pick to draft him...I say take it.
Wonder if his 5 hole is as big as his dads
Top comment right here!
everyone ready for another contract humonogos big?!
Come, my child.
I got to referee his games when he was 10u, 12u and 14u, and you could tell he was going to grow into a draft prospect.
Also for the record bryzgalov was actually a decent goalie IMO, but we legitimately had the worst defense I’ve ever seen. It def wasn’t all his fault
He's barely ranked at all so we could blow a low round pick to bring him into the family. Edit: typo
Is he afraid of bear in the forest?
Ed Snider trying to bust back into our realm screaming at Danny B to draft him
They should definitely draft this kid. I feel like the humungous big universe owes us a karmic debt for this situation.
Please draft him
DO IT!
HUMONGOUS BIG GOALIE
I used to babysit him... Wild to see him in his draft year
No
He’s Ilya’s father?
Bring him to Philly! We need a goalie who isn't afraid of anything... except bears.
Would Bryz choose the bear or a man?
Danny B has the opportunity to do the funniest thing ever to this team.
Imagine if Danny B. Brings Ilya to the microphone to make the announcement 🤣
‘#neveragain
why you heff to be mad?
Not mad at all. LOL
It’s only game
His useless freaking goaltender of a dad is still on our books 😭 😭 😭 😭
So I know who I’ll pissed off about if we draft him
Fuck no … never
