Roman Cechmanek (RIP) had not only the best SV% in Flyers history, but one of the top in history league-wide, and even he was largely unappreciated here

Checkmanek couldn't have pissed off Snider and a blue collar fan base more with his bullshit antics at the end of his tenure which distorts the perception of his entire career with the team.

Mason had a .928 behind a defense of Mark Streit, MDZ, Nick Schultz, Nick Grossman, Luke Schenn, Andy Mac, and Coburns final season... He did that behind a #2, a #4 and like 5 #6 or #7Ds.

Yeah he's often overlooked for some reason. He was incredible as a Flyer, and very underappreciated.

It's because he was here during the retooling G and Vorachek years. They were never good enough to do anything but too good to truly tank.

Those were inflated by the era he played in and playing in front of great defenses in Anaheim and Arizona.

Statistically, he was not bad with Philly, but not great either. Steve Mason was actually a solid upgrade by nearly every metric. That was the real eye-opener to come out of it. I was one of Mason's biggest haters, but he really revived his career in Philly.

Every year it seems I have at least one player on both the Flyers and Sixers that I irrationally don't like. He was one of them.

Bryzgalov was the Tobias Harris of the Flyers - hated more for being overpaid and locking the team out of acquiring better players than for being outright bad himself.

For a guy on a max contract, yeah. If he was paid appropriately? Not really. He's a career 17.2 PPG scorer with above average efficiency metrics.

You gotta watch the games man. Tobias was unplayable for large stretches this year and was god-awful in the playoffs like he usually is. 0 points in an elimination game is the only stat you really need to know. Oh, and ZERO charges drawn in 5 years.

That is also a good comparison, though the nature of the sports makes Castellanos underpeforming his contract less impactful on the team as a hole.

He was average and paid like he was elite. Bryz absolutely underperformed here.

Was a good goalie. We did the typical flyers thing and got him on his career downswing. Arizona pretty much told him good luck, cause a solid defense can shore up a goalies numbers.

Have we had a good defense since pronger and timonen? I think we’ve massively let our goaltenders down since them and in the years between them and desjardins

Not as bad as he's remembered, but certainly not good. His final season here only half of his starts were quality starts. The dude did not care about hockey, and many players on the coyotes said something to the effect of "you'll see" He's the NHL version of Anthony rendon
