I like fighting Shaolin a lot. I think he’s fair although I’ve never played him due to the lack of interest but I have no problem with his movelist. However I do not like his flicker which is technically not, in his kit by intention. So I have nothing against Shaolin players but I wish a pain of a thousand deaths against those who flicker with him.
I’m sure his sweep and bash is punishable via dodge attacks so you’re just going to have to resort to using those.
Shao beats my ass just because I am braindead. Any character that has a dodge attack that comes out from the opposite direction of the dodge completely skullfucks me. My dumb ape brain just cannot comprehend it

I've started to move my guard left and right on those characters to try and parry on indicator - it's certainly not perfect, but with some practice, I'm hitting more parries against Kensei, JJ, Zhanhu, and Monkey Man.
I look like my own kind of monkey trying it out, too. It's a pretty good deal if you ask me.

He’s one of maybe 3 characters on the roster that I consistently struggle against. (Afeera shinobi and shaolin) Idk if it’s cause I’m on console playing on a large tv or what but I can never react to his lights/infinite chain even though I can parry other heroes’ light attacks that are the same exact speed no problem. Playing against him is just a chore and rarely leaves me satisfied win or lose
i’m a shaolin main and the dodge heavy is 100% gb-able. hes a pressure character. everytime i lose a fight it’s because the other person plays patient and looks for a parry then punishes. he’s weak to characters with hyper armor. i agree he’s higher on the teir list, but have you ever played against Hito? aramusha? those are the most brain dead joke of game characters. hito was designed to spam heavy like it’s God of war or an rpg instead of a fighting game. tracking hyper armor unblockables that she can throw 8-9 times in a row before she out of stamina. the game would be better W/O her

Id say medjay is broken enough that he can out pace shoalin
Medjay has infinite spam chains and he is able to attack without any change in frames or stance
He's the 1 character that makes you think you are fighting a lag switcher
Just fighting him in 1v1 fight in general he is busted
He'll hit you then immediately hit you after with no animation and He'll do it in an infinite spam combo cause his attacks having no delay in between them are unreactable
It forces your character into a stunlock
Parry. Or GB. Or feint to Gb. Or light interrupt at the start of chain.
Also you never answered the question: have you tried learning how to fight him and do better?
I'm a medjay player and I'll be the one to tell you that they are overreacting. I'm rep 17 on him right now and I have never "stunlocked" a player, at least not to my knowledge. The way they have to fight medjay is with reads. His options in 1v1s are limited thanks to his staff mode being considerably weaker and more reactable with his grab being his worst move. That would make it easier for them to try and work out what I'm going to do but as it's pretty obvious. The original commenter is clearly unwilling to try and learn.

How do you “read” an animation?
Specific attacks have specific windups are choreographed very obviously, or lead to a specific chain, giving you time to react or "read" the moves.

My biggest complaint is the fact he can attack after whiffing the sweep. Imo no character should continue offense after whiffing a bash/melee.
