The dead sea is shared between Israel and Jordan. Its water levels are receding pretty dramatically. The biological diversity of the region have lowered dramatically since the last couple of centuries with human influence and inhabitation, but was said to be extremely fertile and diverse in the past.

There is a big area of sinkholes at the shore of the dead sea, it is getting larger every year. It is about to swallow half a Kibutz, or at least the access road to this Kibutz.

The dead sea water can also cause reaction to more sensitive persons - all soft tissue in my body (genital tissue included) burned like it had touched acid after one dip. Practice caution if you go there. Also probably try not to go there. The place is in disrepair and all the human activity is not helping.

Why are Isaraelis said to be rude people, actually? I heard this a lot, that Israelis are some of the rudest people on the planet (and this from people who liked and visited Israel, not your enemies). Is it true?

Cocky-Bastard

Rude as in blunt? Than yes. Way more than the average European, but less than the average middle eastern. I visited Turkey, which is way worse in this regard imo.

It is part of our culture to speak to the point, we call this tachles, it comes from the yiddish word tachlit which means essence. Generally we are loud in volume to make sure our voice is heard, and are argumentative. Argumentation is quite rife in Judaism. We are taught not to be fooled (not to be Frayerim) and not to blindly follow authority, military included. We live in a higher stress environment and have a short fuse as a result. All of this can be interpreted as rudeness by other cultures, but can also lead to quick, cheap and innovative solutions under the right circumstances. That's how I see it. I definitely feel like many Israelis are rude, but to each rude person there is someone brilliant. I'd also prefer rude and honest over apathic and hypocritical.

TIL the Romanian word for fool (fraier) comes from Yiddish!

flippant9

Definitely comes from East Europe. I haven't seen consensus. The word and it's usage is deeply rooted within our culture in any case. Comes to mind a famous hip hop song about not being suckers (Lo Frayerim) but with sarcastic lyrics: [https://youtu.be/qHM3uTxvPRg?si=-ojzCCkjdF5TtB9x](https://youtu.be/qHM3uTxvPRg?si=-ojzCCkjdF5TtB9x)

The national sport in Israel is winning about Israelis. But if you ask most people if they would like to leave, they will tell you they love this place.
