AQA is actually giving me nightmares. Power of place, power of identity, war, tissue rahhhh. I know they'll give me some poem I have no context on as well. I want to cry. I'm trying to learn context for all of them and learn their basic meanings so I don't spend 10 minutes in the exam just to decode whatever the hell checking out me history even means.
i do love and relationships😭😭 not even joking i was on the verge of tears earlier thinking i have to do all of this and then try and fit unseen in as well- and i always drop easy spag marks bcs i dont have enough time to check my writing
try not to learn analysis off by heart bcs every year on the examiners report they say they dock so many marks for the essay sounding preplanned- they want it to sound original and spontaneous, and although you should learn key analysis in quotes, try to think of most of the things u can say during the exam
I'm so cooked then. I spend like 10 minutes trying to analyse one singular quote if I haven't pre-planned it. I guess it's a pendulum because I've seen many grade 9 responses and they're so heavily pre-planned.
i think its a balance- obviously in seen texts you need to learn some analysis because they are looking for in depth writing- so like learn the effect of the verbs, oxymoron etc, and then try and develop that and think about why the writer did it in ur head. Learning essays/ huge chunks of analysis should be able to get u a 6/7 i think (dont take my word for it) but just making ur essay sound spontaneous will push u up the mark scheme a lot
what i usually do is learn a one sentence summary of the analysis- e.g. the technique used and a summary of what it does. then in the exam, i develop that analysis- the literal meaning, then what could be suggested, then the symbolic meaning. then, why the writer did this and the effect on reader/audience
I hope it’s not too late cus I already written my pre plan thesis for the Macbeth one but it had context and everything and I did it for most of the analysis but it linked to the question so 😭
the AIC characters are the seven deadly sins which links to the message Priestley is tryna show and this can be shown with every single character im being serious don't panick
Sheila - Envy + Wrath (because Milwards)
Mr B - Greed (ofc)
Mrs B- Pride (because she's prejudiced against Eva)
Eric - Lust + Gluttony (because he drinks hard and rapes Eva)
Gerald - Lust (because Eva was his mistress)
You can link it to the morality play structure that Priestley uses to teach his audience about social responsibility
the whole story revolves around her mate, the question would be a blessing because you could talk about any theme or character bcoz they're all linked to her somehow
The one a couple weeks ago? Did you do Boo Radley or Courage theme? I'm the only person I know who did Courage and I'm starting to wonder if I proper fucked that up
On like every past paper we revised the essay was always on Calpurnia or something else and apparently it was the question two years in a row. Nightmare question tbh idk wtf i'd say about her.
(Should have clarified Boo / Courage question was from WJEC)
i could never do anything about calpurnia she would be an awful essay.
the other one was a beautiful question which i unfortunately cannot remember.
edexcel igcse english lit
i banged my hands on the table when i found out the question for Romeo and Juliet last Monday, istg i haven't ever gotten a look that dirty from anyone that i had from the invigilator
I opened my paper thinking my question was on Gerald and I slammed it shut (it was on mr birling umm) Nah I heard the romeo and juliet one was horrible like the extract, I saw a news article on it from teachers complaining 😭
bro i looked at inspector calls and in my head i was like: im so cooked, say goodbye to that 7. R+J was just torture. aint no way im gonna get higher than a pass.
oh crap sorry basically she's a working class woman who is mistreated by every member of the upper class family the Birlings and she ends up committing suicide before the play starts by drinking disinfectant. she's never given dialogue in the play because she's dead but the whole plot surrounds her suicide
yh this fake inspector comes and reveals all the ways that the Birling family basically ruins this poor woman's life and at the end they find out he's a fake inspector and there's gonna be a real inspector who's coming to ask the questions it's acc interesting
it's a play called 'an inspector calls' u can watch it on yt or bbc iplayer there's two different versions the whole message of the play is basically to accept social responsibility as we are all part of a single society regardless of our class or status
Recycle some analysis of Mr Birling and Mrs Birling with him, if you wanna go the Capitalism/Social responsibility route. They're similar characters. Or talk about the themes of old vs young, and how Gerald represents (is ''an emblem to'') the dark side of the young generation- one that doesn't seem to change, and has more similarities with the old generation unlike its other peers such as Sheila or Eric, whom are part of the younger generation with potential to change the capitalistic/socially irrespopnsible/classist/etc ways of its fathers and forefathers. English lit is easy, you just gotta make different connections between characters/ themes for different questions
I never did an exam paper on english lit, apart form in class, yet I got a 9 because english lit is just making connections depending on what's easiest to write for each question. That's the secret and I gave examples to demonstrae. You got this!
No to both. I've only studied inspector and Mrs birling. I'm so cooked bruh.
i only know mr birling😭
At least I'm not the only crammer, who left everything to this weekend to learn 15 poems, aic and unseen poetry technique.
i wouldnt learn 15 poems, there is no need- i’m only learning 4

And I was hating my school for choosing r + j instead of Macbeth. I guess I'm lucky I don't have whatever the hell love and relationships is.
yeah, its not fun but tbf any type of poetry its a killer- just an overall awful paper imo
love and relationships is fire there’s no tissue
I know there's poems in that anthology that are just as bad bruh.
well we do have “porphyria’s lover” which is basically a poem about r*** and it’s soooo long but other than that i like it
For me i have 6 and hopung to god it is based on war or can rekate to it. Remains Bayonet charge Cotlb Kamikaze Exposure London
My teacher gave us all the quotes we need to remember like months ago lol
Memorising quotes is one thing, but memorising analysis is even harder.
Realest comment I’ve seen on here
I legit get the biggest headaches trying to remember my long ass introduction I pre-planned (it's like 7 sentences long)
I had to learn a paragraph (thesis) and quotes and analysis for the predicted characters/themes Macbeth and it did work but at what cost 💀
try not to learn analysis off by heart bcs every year on the examiners report they say they dock so many marks for the essay sounding preplanned- they want it to sound original and spontaneous, and although you should learn key analysis in quotes, try to think of most of the things u can say during the exam

umm what lol

If I make up analysis it’ll be the most boring and analysis everyone can think of ever 💀

the AIC characters are the seven deadly sins which links to the message Priestley is tryna show and this can be shown with every single character im being serious don't panick
jealousy - sheila, lust - gerald + eric, greed - mr b, gluttony - mr b uhhh i forgot the other sins
Pride - Mrs Birling, Sloth - ?, Wrath - Mrs Birling
Sheila - Envy + Wrath (because Milwards) Mr B - Greed (ofc) Mrs B- Pride (because she's prejudiced against Eva) Eric - Lust + Gluttony (because he drinks hard and rapes Eva) Gerald - Lust (because Eva was his mistress) You can link it to the morality play structure that Priestley uses to teach his audience about social responsibility
thank you for this gift
How the hell do u answer How does Priestley present Eva Smith???? She’s just dead 💀
the whole story revolves around her mate, the question would be a blessing because you could talk about any theme or character bcoz they're all linked to her somehow

The one a couple weeks ago? Did you do Boo Radley or Courage theme? I'm the only person I know who did Courage and I'm starting to wonder if I proper fucked that up
that wasn’t our question we got Calpurnia or the theme of like Unfairness or something
Mr Birling is the easiest thing ever if he comes up I will cook and have so much time remaining to focus on poetry
i want sheila to come up so bad
most uninteresting character in the whole play, mr birling wannabecore
nah Mr Birling respects his wife, unlike some well-bred man-about-town
i resonated with mr salles when he said 'i hate gerald' in his most recent video
Please inspector goole or Mr birling 🙏
What why did it put my comment here 💀

My English teacher is convinced the questions going to be on Gerald. if I open my paper and I even see his name I'm leaving because wtaf👿
i banged my hands on the table when i found out the question for Romeo and Juliet last Monday, istg i haven't ever gotten a look that dirty from anyone that i had from the invigilator

oh crap sorry basically she's a working class woman who is mistreated by every member of the upper class family the Birlings and she ends up committing suicide before the play starts by drinking disinfectant. she's never given dialogue in the play because she's dead but the whole plot surrounds her suicide
It's fine, dw. And that's a bit of a heavy topic lol. Isn't there like an investigation into what happens? (I actually kinda want to read this now...)
yh this fake inspector comes and reveals all the ways that the Birling family basically ruins this poor woman's life and at the end they find out he's a fake inspector and there's gonna be a real inspector who's coming to ask the questions it's acc interesting
That actually kinda does sound cool. What's the book called?
it's a play called 'an inspector calls' u can watch it on yt or bbc iplayer there's two different versions the whole message of the play is basically to accept social responsibility as we are all part of a single society regardless of our class or status
