That‘s one of the perks in germany: everything is dubbed and nobody is loosing his shit when you say you watched something dubbed. On the contrary; you say you watch something in OV you get several reactions from interested to weirdo…
I just roll my eyes if I have to listen to the majority of dubs. There's so man terrible voices and translations. But I literally don't give a shit what others do, I fully understand if someone who doesn't speak great English doesn't want to read the whole movie
I mean maybe the quality factor in, one of the reasonss people are really against dubs in the US is because up intil the 2010s most dubs were awful, bad voice acting, heavy censorship, shoddy translation/localization, some even changed the whole ass plot
Don’t be offended but I often switch programs to German dub for laughs, my friends and my wife have doubts at first but then they all laugh LOL
For context I only speak English and always think German sounds so serious but entertaining at the same time
It’s especially good when you switch children programs like cocomelon to German LOL
I just like subbed because it’s harder for me to think someone’s acting/voice acting is shitty or cheesy if I don’t know how people are supposed to sound in that language. Lol
I feel like sometimes dubs can feel cheesy because what the characters say in another language has to match the lip movements in the original language, and as a result some small stuff gets lost in translation
Don’t kid yourself, there’s plenty that gets lost in subbing Japanese. Due to the context heavy nature of Japanese, they can convey an entire English sentence worth of dialogue in 2 words. The end result is that they have to drop dialogue or the subtitles would be flashing by at seizure inducing speeds. And then there’s the matter of having to localize words and phrases that have no easy way to convert to English (itadakimasu is a great example-it’s often translated as all kinds of things from “let’s eat”to “thanks for the meal” when it’s actual meaning is near impossible to convey in English). Bottom line is that as soon as you translate Japanese to English, regardless of subtitles or dubbing, you’re losing a bunch.
We are very lucky that nowadays, we can freely choose to watch something subtitled or dub and (for the most part) not lose anything in the choice.
I grew up in the 70’s-80’s so bad voice acting doesn’t phase me but I remember being horrified the first time I watched a dubbed anime that was also subtitled. The dub script was absolutely butchering the original intent of entire scenes and character motivations. Some time in the early 2000’s, dubbing started to be taken way more seriously and producers started putting in the effort to ensure the English dialogue scripts were faithful to the original script.
I’ll still check every once in a while that a dub is good by turning on the subs and seeing how close it is. That said, the Minus One dub on Netflix not only uses the dub script for the subtitles but in comparing it to the subtitles on an… alternate version I ‘found’, there was a few translation issues that kind of made me bristle. All in all though it’s still good enough that I don’t feel like it makes that much of a difference.
Going on a minor tangent here, but this is also partly because of subtitle translators being overworked and underpaid. There's an art to translating using context and creative wordplay to convey a message which may mean different things. Subtitles are more limited than other texts but I can really appreciate a clever translation even if I don't speak the original language, sometimes when you're looking for it you can tell that something wasn't the original wording but has real depth of meaning in the English translation.
I love you. This is the exact argument I use when people say that japanese voice actors are just inherently better than any other language voice actor lol.
Haha I can only imagine. Then there are dubs like Shrek in Spanish, which is even funnier than the original English. Those translators really took their job seriously haha
I thought the Shin dub was fine, but it loses a little bit of the satire since they remove the ever-increasing amount of Japanese text on-screen throughout the movie. I don't get why they just didn't subtitle those bits.
I had to check my blu ray copy of Shin. I never knew it had an English dub. Now I feel like I have to watch it.
I can say this. I'm not happy with the English dub that Netflix did. And I'm pretty sure they changed the subtitles as well. There are very specific lines I remember from the movie that are different in the subtitles now. I hope a physical release will have what originally played
Did you check both English sub options? One is captions for the dub which would have slightly changed dialogue, but the other should be the same as what was seen in theaters
Can confirm the regular English subs seem to be effectively the same as in theaters, so I assume the English CC subs are what people are complaining about. Maybe those are tied to the English dub’s dialogue?
[I personally think dubs usually kill the vibe of live action stuff](https://youtu.be/i4G4p_yQEAI?si=_KGalOhBKb2Of84y) but you know what's even lamer? Telling a grown ass adult how they should or shouldn't watch a movie.
This. Me and my wife put a german serie on netflix on with eng dub accidentally put on. We both wondered that how can these actors suck so much, but then when we noticed the lip sync was off we turned it to original and that problem was fixed
I watched Dark both subbed and dubbed. Was great either way. It was mildly interesting to see the subtle differences in what they were saying vs what I was reading. It wasn't enough to change the story at all and both were just fine.
Omg that was hilarious, but yeah that’s how I feel watching things not in their original language. If I’m actually going to be watching it, I’d rather see it in its original language. If it’s going to be in the background type thing, I’ll put it in English dub.
Subs can be hard for me because I have vision issues. I wear rigid contact lenses that can get uncomfortable if I’ve been wearing them all day so sometimes I take them out before tv time. If I’m not wearing them, I can usually see the movie well enough, but reading text will require me to squint pretty hard, and then I’m not able to read the subs fast enough to look back to what’s happening on screen.
All that to say that you are correct, it’s hella lame to tell people how they should or should not watch things because even though it’s valid to have preferences, sometimes it’s an accessibility issue as well.
I prefer the dubs with the older ones because the dubs give them a cheesy charm ("Take that, you dinosaur!")
I tried watching Minus One with them and couldn't take it cause I wanted to take the movie seriously.
All the hilariously bad English lines like “take that, you dinosaur!” and the Major Spielberg line in Godzilla vs King Ghidorah are just like that, even in the subbed version. They just didn’t have good actors playing the Americans lol.
While I personally believe that the best reason to watch a sub is to appreciate the original actors' performance (shaky voices, screaming, etc), at least you saw the movie.
To each their own but I think the director of Parasite Bong Joon Ho said it best:
“Once you overcome the 1-inch-tall barrier of subtitles, you will be introduced to so many more amazing films.”
Watch media however you want but I do believe a lot of shows and movies lose something with dub.
That being said I am pretty die hard for DBZ dubbing.
Very well said. And DBZ Ksi has the more accurate translation, but imo the dub of Z the voices are largely so much better and have so much more passion and energy to them. Plus the iconic, imo scene enhancing Falconer OST
TLDR: it’s ok, but I’d probably never recommend it.
I watch and enjoy a shit ton of dubbed anime so as someone with no bias on the subject of localization here are my thoughts:
The voices in general are a bit too young sounding compared to the real ones and overall the American accents coming from Japanese people is just strange.
Koichi, Doc, and Akikos voices are all probably the best, though even Koichis VA has some off deliveries. Some character such as Seiji and Sumiko I think are just flat out miscast, no disrespect to whoever voiced them.
Crowds and background voices sound good. No real complaints.
Koichis scream and in fact most of his emotional freakouts are surprisingly good. Not great but not bad.
They kept the original audio of Akiko crying, thankfully. I wasn’t sure how a dub would approach an infant crying.
Overall I would call it average if not slightly mediocre. The biggest saving grace is Koichis English VA giving it his all, but you have to get past the hurdle of all these live action Japanese people sounding like North Americans, a problem that an animated cartoon doesn’t have to deal with.
If someone has to watch the version to enjoy the film I’m just happy you get to see the movie. But if you have access to the original audio I simply cannot recommend the English dub.
Oh my God, that new predator movie with native Americans. The group of young male hunters in the tribe talk as if there names Chad, Chet, and Tyler. They sound like total dude bros.
I wouldn't call it over the top, but yes. Accents would make it better. I can even think of a few English speaking Japanese voice actors who would fit certain characters.
This is how I watched them when I was too little to read that fast now it just feels right watching them in dubbed and the dub is a lot better now in days.
Sub when in a dim lit room without distractions (like a movie theater). Dub when you’re not hyper focused on the screen. There are different ways to enjoy the same thing, you don’t need to be married to either.
Hey if you enjoy it it’s all good. I tried watching it with the dubs personally and had to switch it back to Japanese with subs. Personally the English dub just can’t match the tone of the characters. I now finally understand the whole debate with anime lol
This all depends on the person. If an individual who has issues with paying attention, then go ahead and watch the dub so you can pay attention. If you can pay attention, then you can use subs if that's what you prefer. Dubs are good for people who can't pay attention to things due to a variety of reasons, such as ADHD for an example
It's crazy that there's still a "dub v sub" thing going on, just let people watch it they want to, if you like sub? Great! If you like dub? Also great!
Nothing wrong with watching the movie in the way you enjoy more; I can't understand why anyone would care about a complete a stranger's viewing experience.
You should have seen the post a few weeks ago on the subject of dubbing this movie. There were a LOT of people spitting venom at the idea of enjoying the dub, acting like it was their own personal business to police how other people decided to enjoy a movie.
Normally it doesn't matter because the dialogue is just there to move the plot along but for this movie where you actually have actors carrying the movie with good performances I think you lose something with the dub.
We watched the dub version last night as a family. I have a 6 year old and watching with dub was a HELL of a lot better than having to act out all the parts myself.
As much as eng dub would be helpful, I prefer the sub seeing as not only is it the original format of speech for the movie, but the fact of their mouths matching what they say.
There’s actually an ongoing [debate in Japan](https://comicbook.com/anime/news/king-of-the-hill-audiences-argue-over-best-way-to-watch-japan/) over which version is better: King of the Hill dubbed, or King of the Hill subbed 😅
You people can watch it in fucking sami for all i care, as long as people don't pretend that the dubs are better than the original since it, you know, is a part of the acting job that dubs can never replace
Sub purists are annoying af. Just ignore em. I watch dub for everything because I'm constantly distracted by my surroundings and will look away from the screen alot.
My first Godzilla movies were dubbed. I watched it dubbed with my girlfriend and I really enjoyed it. I might watch it again subbed but I'm perfectly happy with it.
I watched in subbed when it was in theaters in IMAX. Shit was bumping especially during the Godzilla scenes. Felt that rawr UwU in my bones. Saw it dubbed on Netflix. It’s okay for the most part was wondering how the screaming scene for MC was gonna be dubbed. Doesn’t hit quite as hard as the Japanese one though.
How did this conversation come up? Did you just randomly announce you watched it in English for reactions or did someone ask you what language you watched it in.
There are a lot of instances where I prefer the dub. For one, I grew up watching dubbed on video cassette, so there’s obviously that nostalgia. Godzilla 2000 also has a dub that was deliberately tongue in cheek and the movie is edited to improve pacing and some of the effects look more polished. Shin has so many damn subtitles on screen at once I prefer the dub so I don’t have to dart my eyes and miss stuff while I’m watching.
Also, sometimes I just want to sit back and watch something, not read it. And that’s fine.
If the dubs were good, i would, but they’re pretty bad. The current dub takes away from the dramatic effect the actual actors put in their inflections and voices.
I'm watching the movie in Japanese and in English subtitles. I don't want the dubs to ruin the charm that the Japanese language has. Especially in Godzilla films.
I mean, you're allowed to watch however you want, but "haha I refuse to watch things if I have to read to understand them" isn't the flex this meme implies it is.
My son is a Godzilla fanatic but is also young enough that he can’t read. He’s begged me to watch Godzilla movies on Pluto TV and given up when I have to read all the subtitles for him. Dubs serve a purpose. The kids that get to enjoy the dubbed movies become the loyal fans that appreciate the subbed versions. Stop being gatekeeping assholes.
As someone who watched both sub and dub it was surprisingly good sometimes quite in the dub but the VAs did a phenomenal job at the emotional scenes and some serious ones but everyone has an opinion on this that it's fun to watch it dub and sub the original is great I will say they did a good job 👍
I like both. To the people that say you lose context/meaning with jap to eng dub…possible. But one movie would not actually make me Japanese. I likely would not understand the context in Japanese either huh? Prepare to have mind blown…it works in both directions! My wife is Taiwanese and didn’t come to USA until 20. She still has trouble with context/meaning of some English phrases after living in America as long as she lived in Taiwan! If you missed shared cultural events that are baked into the nation’s collective psyche…you will not get the gravity of events.
I realize that American anime nerds fancy themselves semi-Japanese…they are kidding themselves.
Nothing wrong with dubs. Lots of people have learning disabilities or are a bit slower and subs can be difficult for them. Everyone deserves to enjoy media.
Nothing wrong with you liking what you like, but you are doing a disservice to the movie by not watching it in Japanese just once.....the difference is so night and day, it's that much better than dub, not gonna lie.
Dubs in general suck because not only do the voices not match the mouths, but most times the voice actors completely fail to capture the emotion of the original. You're basically watching the media at half potential.
I personally believe you missed out on the full force of Ryunosuke Kamiki's performance, especially Shikishima's blood-curling scream after Godzilla levels Ginza.
But oh well, your loss.
I tried watching the English sub and while it wasn't bad I had to switch to the original Japanese. Also, I really wish they had Minus color. I watched it in theaters during the Minus Color run and while the movie is beautiful in color, the black and white definitely elevated it.
Im glad to have the choice, and I don’t fault anyone for doing dubs, (90% of anime I prefer dubs) but live action dubs almost always suck. Gives me an excuse to watch it again though!
I re-watched it and my wife watched it for the first time and I said we're watching it subbed, get your glasses. It felt right. Am I going to hate you for it? No, to each their own.
I got childhood nostalgia vibes when I watched the eng dub as an American. However, I think the voice acting is better in the Japanese dub. But that depends on all imported properties. Japanese Goku is cringe and eng Goku is tip tier. Weathering with you eng dub is trash and Japanese is king
It's a nuanced thing really. Because there's some really bad dubs out there where the translation contradicts what the original is saying or leaves out something really important. The voices could also be so emotionally flat and/or terrible in comparison.
I advocate watching in original language (Japanese in this case) as much as is feasible, but like, I get that some people have trouble reading subtitles fast enough to keep up with the visuals *and* dialogue. People should watch in whatever form best suits them.
I watched last night the way I saw it in the theater. I’m going to see it tonight in English to see the changes. Did you love it again? So good in any language I’m sure!
A majority of older fans probably first experienced Godzilla through an English dub. I know I did. The cheesiness of the English dubs is something I absolutely love because of the nostalgia. That said Minus One is worth watching no matter which option you choose. Personally I choose both options.
There's an argument to be made about how, more often than not, the original language will carry out the better performance since there will be synergy between the actor and the words coming out of their mouths, and not someone else's dub of an edited script made to fit the mouth flaps of the OG actor.
But none of this matters. Watch what you wanna watch. I'm sub over dub 99.9% of the time, but you do you. Keep your heart steadfast against the opinion of others, and live the way you want to.
I enjoy the subs, but I grew up watching the dubbed versions. Same thing with Kung Fu and Wuxia films. It’s kind of just part of the fun of the experience for me. 🤷
I like dubs because kids can watch them.
I bought the Criterion set and was as happy as can be with them. Didn’t care for the dubs, didn’t need them. Preferred mine as close to the original as possible me.
But now I have a new daughter and I’m really excited for the day I can share Godzilla with her, and none of those will be worth a damn for when she’s a good age to start watching some of them.
Most of us became fans as kids. These movies should be accessible for kids. And, sure, Minus One is probably for a bit older audiences. By the time they’re early tween subs shouldn’t be a challenge anymore. But it’s still a bit sad for me that so many of these movies lack that extra accessibility.
You enjoy the movie however you want to. I switched the scenes back and forth between English and Japanese and there wasn't a huge amount of emotion lost in the English dub. I myself prefer it in Japanese, mainly because that's how I saw it the first time in theaters. They make the dub for a reason. You enjoy that lizard content in whatever fashion makes you happiest. Don't let the purests and gatekeepers sway you either way. It's your experience and you can do whatever you want with it 😁
I had no idea there was an english dub being released. My autistic kid is obsessed with Godzilla but didn't like Minus One because he can't read very well yet. Just threw on the English Dub and making popcorn so we can finally enjoy it together. Thanks!
The original is amazing and how I prefer to watch it, but I’ve never understood people who are upset at the accessibility of dubs. Watch it how you want, leave people to watch it how they want; that’s why we have options.
So dumb people should watch how they want I watched sub cuz that's just what I prefer I don't like the sound of dubbed over voices in live action and in anime I'd rather just put the tone of the Japanese voices to the subtitles. I always watch in original language regardless of language if there's subtitles and I don't miss out on anything story or impact wise
I prefer the subbed version but I watched the dub and think it’s actually one of the better Godzilla dubs, it maybe doesn’t have some of the same raw emotion of the Japanese audio but it’s not awful and it’s not a sin to watch dubs, they need to just chill and realize people are going to watch & experience movies the way they want to.
Well, I personally prefer reading subtitles since the Japanese language sounds pretty badass and envokes emotions, but yet i use dub when I watch Dragon ball, for example, because the subtitles in there suck.
It's a personal choice.
Accessibility is a positive thing. Some people struggle to read on screen subtitles or find them intrusive .They shouldn't be excluded from these films. All I ask is that the dub be done well and stick as close to the original dialogue as possible
I prefer to watch the dub of Shin Godzilla, and I'm not sorry
*me watching with German dub* ![gif](giphy|12aW6JtfvUdcdO)

French dub when?
Only if Jean Reno is voicing the entire cast, Godzilla included.
He did the English dub you couldn't tell because he was chewing gum through all the lines recorded
Same bro

I’ll allow it

Dang, now I want seizure inducing fully translated subtitles.
I love you. This is the exact argument I use when people say that japanese voice actors are just inherently better than any other language voice actor lol.
This movie actually had a pretty good dub
I don’t doubt it, I just meant I always do that in general when anything’s got a different original language than English.
I actually thought some of the scenes made more sense to my English-speaking brain with the English dub. Whereas the Shin dub is just awful
I haven't seen G-1 in English, but Shin Godzilla was pretty terrible in English.
Dude I laughed alot watching that shit in dub
Yeah dubs feel pretty hit or miss. The english dub for Squid Game was so fucking bad I couldnt take it seriously edit: dub not sub
Haha I can only imagine. Then there are dubs like Shrek in Spanish, which is even funnier than the original English. Those translators really took their job seriously haha
Polish Shrek is an absolute masterpiece.
You'll be happy to know, different company, different team.

Where’d you watch it? I’ve been looking for it.
I rented it on YouTube, which I didn't know had no option to see it in Japanese.
Wasn't Funi in charge of the Shin Dub? Figures.
As long as you are enjoying it, there is no wrong way to watch movies.
Muted and with my eyes closed
Smell the movie. Feel the movie. Taste the movie. But do not watch the movie.
Can’t wait till the porn industry gets going with this
Excuse me? What
You heard him
They already have a market on the feel part…so I’ve heard! 😅
Wait what
Go to a fish market and you’re already halfway there
Taste like ash, smells like(I don’t have a good example for smell),and feels like depression
Smell would probably be ionized air from the destroyed ozone after Godzillas radiation gets everywhere
……..yeah that works
Smells like super cancer.
Godzilla must smell weird.
The Helen Keller Cut.
Play pinball the same way?
Think a huge number of us here fell in love with big green with some poor dubs. I'm glad dub acting has improved so much the past 20 years.
My first Godzilla movie was Godzilla vs Megalon on dubbed VHS. I wouldn’t be a Godzilla fan now without it.
If only more people had this mindset
I agree 110%

I’ve watched Godzilla movies with English dubs before and I wasn’t bothered by it
I prefer the dubs with the older ones because the dubs give them a cheesy charm ("Take that, you dinosaur!") I tried watching Minus One with them and couldn't take it cause I wanted to take the movie seriously.
“It’s a dinosaur, a gigantic dinosaur’s attacking our boys!”
You can tell your son about it, when he’s born… Major Spielberg!
Same, I like the dub versions for the older movies, it ads to the goofy vibe.
Yep this is it for me, I would never watch a dub of a serious Godzilla movie, but for the sillier ones, it just adds so much.
It reminded me of the Squid Game dub
All the hilariously bad English lines like “take that, you dinosaur!” and the Major Spielberg line in Godzilla vs King Ghidorah are just like that, even in the subbed version. They just didn’t have good actors playing the Americans lol.
I grew up watching Godzilla movies on Sci-Fi Saturday movies always dubbed. Watching the dub has a nostalgia to it. (for me, anyway).

It's okay, better than most of the dubs on Netflix but it's the same 5 va actors you hear in every single dub movie or anime.
TLDR: it’s ok, but I’d probably never recommend it. I watch and enjoy a shit ton of dubbed anime so as someone with no bias on the subject of localization here are my thoughts: The voices in general are a bit too young sounding compared to the real ones and overall the American accents coming from Japanese people is just strange.
It’s really well done
Watched the sub in theaters, watched the dub on Netflix. Both good.
I just really hate when dubs make the characters sound so American. It takes me completely out of it.
Oh my God, that new predator movie with native Americans. The group of young male hunters in the tribe talk as if there names Chad, Chet, and Tyler. They sound like total dude bros.
So an over the top american dub of Japanese accents would suffice?
I wouldn't call it over the top, but yes. Accents would make it better. I can even think of a few English speaking Japanese voice actors who would fit certain characters.
Reminds me of Latitude Zero where the whole thing was filmed in English and Akira Takarada tried his damnedest to speak English.
My love of Godzilla started with terrible english dubs on vhs. Fuck em, making media more accessible is never a bad thing.
I saw it in theatres last year , subs. Glorious experience. I’m going to watch it on Netflix with dubs soon. stay mad losers x}
You're good, I plan on watching with dubs because my ADHD makes it difficult to read and watch at the same time.
The more people that see it, the more people will see what an outstanding film it is!
Yeah, fuck blind people, they should all have to learn another language to watch a movie /s
Hey if you enjoy it it’s all good. I tried watching it with the dubs personally and had to switch it back to Japanese with subs. Personally the English dub just can’t match the tone of the characters. I now finally understand the whole debate with anime lol
I just love the Japanese voices and their acting so
This all depends on the person.
I can't stand dubs for live action, but hey, I'm glad it's out there and makes it more accessible for more people.
When does the Klingon dub release?
Sometimes I like how goofy the dub sounds. I really like heisei dubs
Normally it doesn't matter because the dialogue is just there to move the plot along but for this movie where you actually have actors carrying the movie with good performances I think you lose something with the dub.
It was still fucking really good and emotional. I watched it to and loved every moment
We watched the dub version last night as a family. I have a 6 year old and watching with dub was a HELL of a lot better than having to act out all the parts myself.
I'm not gonna lie the emotions are very subpar on the dub
As much as eng dub would be helpful, I prefer the sub seeing as not only is it the original format of speech for the movie, but the fact of their mouths matching what they say.
There’s actually an ongoing [debate in Japan](https://comicbook.com/anime/news/king-of-the-hill-audiences-argue-over-best-way-to-watch-japan/) over which version is better: King of the Hill dubbed, or King of the Hill subbed 😅
People can watch however they want but let's not pretend that the original voice acting isn't almost always better (with a few exceptions).
I so wish sub vs dub arguments would die. Everyone should be happy that people have multiple means to experience these things they love.
Uh yes, sub vs dub. A tale as old as time.
Also Dub is great for anyone who is a slower reader or might have dyslexia.
You lose out on the excellent acting but you do you boss.
I prefer the original audio because I like the feeling of watching Japanese with English subtitles
I didn't even know there are dubs. Watched it in Japanese and thought, yeah makes sense. Only until later my mum told me she also watched it in german
If the dubs were good, i would, but they’re pretty bad. The current dub takes away from the dramatic effect the actual actors put in their inflections and voices.
I watch it in the native language eith the subs turned off ☺️
I'm watching the movie in Japanese and in English subtitles. I don't want the dubs to ruin the charm that the Japanese language has. Especially in Godzilla films.
I watched both subbed and dubbed of minus one and tbh i do think subbed is a different experience than dubbed
I mean, you're allowed to watch however you want, but "haha I refuse to watch things if I have to read to understand them" isn't the flex this meme implies it is.
They found some really good voice actors, tbh I really liked the English dub.
Stop being gatekeeping assholes.
are you *american*?
Personally I hate dubs. Even when they're done well, there's such a huge disconnect between the actors and the audio. It's totally distracting to me.
Theres a time and place for subtitles. This movie you need to hear the real actors voices to understand the film.
As someone who watched both sub and dub it was surprisingly good sometimes quite in the dub but the VAs did a phenomenal job at the emotional scenes and some serious ones but everyone has an opinion on this that it's fun to watch it dub and sub the original is great I will say they did a good job 👍
I hate dubs honestly. For me they ruin the movie
Watch it how you like my friend.
The dub for this was actually pretty good. The actors matched their characters well and they didn't change the names so that helps with the matching
The dubs really good actually.
English dub with subtitles cause I can't hear shit go brrr
Yeah! Dub + sub gang!
Dubs aren't for me, but I'm not going to judge another adult for how they watch a movie.
But oh well, your loss.
i don't care honestly, but i get it i watched it with subs and it was pretty good
I haven't watched the dub yet, for live action stuff I'm more inclined to watch the sub's for most things
Who cares
I tried watching the English sub and while it wasn't bad I had to switch to the original Japanese. Also, I really wish they had Minus color. I watched it in theaters during the Minus Color run and while the movie is beautiful in color, the black and white definitely elevated it.
Imo this dub was meh, not great bit terrible. It wasn’t as bad as some of the show dubs but not as good as the millenium dubs.
Wait, the Netflix version is dubbed?
Im glad to have the choice, and I don’t fault anyone for doing dubs, (90% of anime I prefer dubs) but live action dubs almost always suck. Gives me an excuse to watch it again though!
I re-watched it and my wife watched it for the first time and I said we're watching it subbed, get your glasses. It felt right. Am I going to hate you for it? No, to each their own.
The dub isn’t bad but it just throws me off. Dubs to me at this point I can’t watch it without subs at this point
Wait is there an English dub for Minus One.
On Netflix there is. They have a bunch of languages
I advocate watching in original language (Japanese in this case) as much as is feasible, but like, I get that some people have trouble reading subtitles fast enough to keep up with the visuals *and* dialogue. People should watch in whatever form best suits them.
It’s your free time, not my concern in the least. Knock yourself out.
I prefer it subbed with the original audio, but some movies or shows work dubbed
I watched last night the way I saw it in the theater. I’m going to see it tonight in English to see the changes. Did you love it again? So good in any language I’m sure!
Who cares? I prefer subbed but I won't bad mouth someone if they don't want to (as my dad puts it) "read the film."
I watched it in theaters, so it was subbed. How’s the dub?
Keep your heart steadfast against the opinion of others, and live the way you want to.
whenever I get the chance I'm gonna watch it in a secret third language to piss everyone off at once.
It's your experience and you can do whatever you want with it 😁
eh... to each their own; at least you got to enjoy the film that's what matters most, I suppose [lawful-neutral]
Lmao I watched it in Russian and I don’t understand Russian
I had no idea there was an english dub being released. My autistic kid is obsessed with Godzilla but didn't like Minus One because he can't read very well yet. Just threw on the English Dub and making popcorn so we can finally enjoy it together. Thanks!
The original is amazing and how I prefer to watch it, but I’ve never understood people who are upset at the accessibility of dubs. Watch it how you want, leave people to watch it how they want; that’s why we have options.
I watched it in Japanese, then the Spanish dub, and finally the English dub... for me, it's just an excuse to watch it again.
I personally prefer subtitles... but sometimes I'm very tired and just want to watch, lol.
It's the only way I got my dad to watch it so I'm glad for that.
Sub forever. Dub never.
Watched both ways now. While the performances are stronger subbed, the dub is of the highest quality. They really did a great job.
Peasant.
Personally for me, watch what you prefer
I rewatched it earlier with the english dub as well. Honestly, not that bad.
All I ask is that the dub be done well and stick as close to the original dialogue as possible I prefer to watch the dub of Shin Godzilla, and I'm not sorry
I skipped every scene that Godzilla wasn't on screen.
