Watch the GTA:SA prequel video called 'The Introduction'. [Here](http://gta.wikia.com/wiki/The_Introduction) is the gta wikia page for it. [Here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=daw8xhaGj2s) is a link to Rockstar's YouTube version and [here](http://www.rockstargames.com/videos/video/10491) it is on the Rockstar website.

Sir_Crimson

Oh man, I didn't know this was a thing. Thanks a lot!

Okay, so maybe I'm dense... I just watched the video and I still miss the connection between the green sabre and Smoke/Ryder. Are they the ones driving/shooting? I know there's a mission where Caesar shows us the green sabre, and I believe smoke or ryder are involved in the scene. But that's the only real connection I can remember.

The story line of GTA San Andreas is predominantly CJ trying to find out who killed his mother. Beverly Johnson was killed due to Grove Street getting in the way of the Los Santos segment of a pan San Andreas drug syndicate based mostly in San Fierro and Los Santos. The main groups in the syndicate are: - The Ballas (including Big Smoke and Ryder) - [C.R.A.S.H](http://gta.wikia.com/wiki/C.R.A.S.H.) (Including Tenpenny) - [Loco Syndicate](http://gta.wikia.com/wiki/Loco_Syndicate) (Toreno, T-Bone, Jizzy etc) *The Introduction* The green sabre is driven by random Ballas (that's what I see in the video) who were working on orders from C.R.A.S.H[1] what Big Smoke and Ryder did was make a deal with the Ballas for a cut of something. This is mentioned in the scene in Ryder's house and the scene with the Ballas near the start of the video. The objective was to kill Sweet but he was not in the house at the time[1]. Tenpenny mentions needing to pit gang members against eachother as a means of removing gangs from Los Santos but the true motive is to remove the rival gangs of the Ballas [2]. *GTA: SA* During the game it is revealed that what the deal was about is the [crack business](http://gta.wikia.com/wiki/Big_Smoke's_Crack_Palace) which Big Smoke, Ryder and Tenpenny are involved with along with the Ballas. Grove Street and in particular CJ and Sweet are very anti-drug (as seen in the mission where they take out dealers). Because Grove Street is bad for business the Ballas needed to remove the key members of the families which would be CJ (though absent from Los Santos during The Introduction), Sweet, Ryder and Big Smoke but they were able to buy Ryder and Big Smoke (as seen in the introduction and referenced in the game) so only had to remove CJ and Sweet. Cesar informs CJ of the connections in both Los Santos and San Fierro which is why he is a central character in bringing down C.R.A.S.H, Loco Syndicate and Big Smoke. Ryder is also the person Big Smoke sends to represent him at the Loco Syndicate meetings in San Fierro. 1. http://gta.wikia.com/wiki/Beverly_Johnson 2. http://gta.wikia.com/wiki/Frank_Tenpenny

JELLYFISH_FISTER

damn u a real historian on this

Ah, thanks for the clarifications. Now that your mention it, many of those connections are things I knew at one point and had forgotten. Like the drug ring that you photograph, including Ryder, the pimp, James Woods character and the Mexican guy.

bean_patrol

Yep that's a Loco Syndicate meeting which serves as a jumping point for Cesar and CJ messing with shipments between Big Smoke and San Fierro (those Patriot and Sanchez chasing side missions), the death of Ryder and getting involved with Toreno leading to Las Venturas then taking down the Loco Syndicate before going back for Big Smoke

martinepinho

Yeah, there's a mission where Cesar shows you the green sabre and Smoke's either driving it or riding as a passenger. Long story short, Big Smoke and Ryder where in on CJ's mother's killing.

rube

Gotcha... I assume by The Introduction video, that they accidentally shot up CJ's mom's house instead of Sweet's house next door?

Flabpack221

Smoke and Ryder were in on the killing of CJ's mom. Really all there is to it. They 'sold out' the Grove and started pushing crack to make money.

sfw63

so whats tenpenny involvement in it?

bean_patrol

>...two Ballas members, under the orders of corrupt LSPD officers Frank Tenpenny and Eddie Pulaski, attempted a drive-by shooting at Beverly's house, in order to attempt to kill Sweet. However, Sweet was not in the house, and instead Beverly was killed. http://gta.wikia.com/wiki/Beverly_Johnson

sfw63

why would ballas work with the cops. they would've done that to their rivals regardless

bean_patrol

It's more that the cops were working with the Ballas. Tenpenny and the rest of C.R.A.S.H (the people dealing with gangs) were getting a cut in exchange for some police immunity. Similar to the protection Toreno provided for the Loco Syndicate.

SA is probably still my favorite of the series (V is a close second if not tied). I've played through the story of it maybe a dozen times on various platforms... and I still don't really know the whole story. :) I know Smoke and Ryder are obviously bad guys, and the Green Sabre has something to do with it... but like you, I either don't pay close enough attention to the story or it's a bit vague. I'll have to watch the video bean_patrol posted again, I've watched it once years ago but I don't remember what happens.

simplycass

Well you don't necessarily need to watch The Introduction. During some dialogue in a cut-scene (possibly "Drive-By" when they're buying food at the Cluckin' Bell) CJ mentions that it was a "green Sabre" that was seen when his mom was killed but nobody wants to talk about it. That's enough to know that when he sees the green car again as well as Ryder/Smoke around it that they were aware of/knew of/were in on the drive-by.

In addition to what's already been stated, I'd also add that Ryder was not really in on it. In The Introduction, you can see Smoke pursuing him to jump ship with him and form an alliance with CRASH and the Ballas. Even during the LS portion of the story, he still has his heart with the Grove whereas with Smoke, you can already sense his betrayal coming from CRASH always being in his house, him moving out of Grove to Ballas territory and not even shooting at the Ballas driveby shooters in "Drive-Thru". His missions also have nothing to do with the Grove for the most part. Plus in the first part of that mission, Ryder tries to give CJ an answer regarding his mom's death and even mentions the Sabre before Smoke quickly changes the subject. Eventually, Smoke manages to convince Ryder to join him in the betrayal which was a disappointment for me as Ryder is my fav character.

TurbulentCrow544

I don’t know he was a fake friend probably

clayman648

I have never seen that video before... Where was the featured?
