Yeah I’m pursuing a computer science degree so it makes it harder, I might just have to do a part time

[deleted]

I had to work full time weekend only because of computer science labs and everything

Friendly_Reserve_940

You can’t work full time on weekends only , that means you are a part time worker

[deleted]

I’d put in my 40 on weekends :/ wouldn’t recommend

Friendly_Reserve_940

How tf ?😭😭 you a strong one that’s 13 hours a day

JDadzie54

DAYUM , power to you bro that sounds like hell

osrppp

I don’t sleep

Time management! I work full time and I’m in school full time. I keep a tight schedule and a detailed planner. I used to do serving and had specific schedules, now I’m finishing my senior year online and I’m very organized when it comes to my work and due dates. It’s doable! You have to be organized and you have to compromise your fun time a lot.

Itsthemanmaddy

Do you think it’s necessary to be an honors college student in order to access online classes? I’d like to do the same thing but I wasn’t sure (transferring to Atlanta campus next year)

Kekeb-123

No, I’m not in honors college. Some majors are offered online! You can check on the GSU website or talk to your advisor! I was an econ major and they offer a lot of those courses online, I took them in person but I switched to a psych major Econ minor and they offer all my courses online so for my last year I decided to do that! Plus, I live in Savannah now so commuting isn’t really an option anymore lol

Adventurous_South874

It's tough and at times you feel like you've got nothing but school-work-sleep and no time for anything else but it really depends on the job if it's demanding and how hard the classes are. Being good at time management is crucial, you need to be disciplined to pull it off.

pinkveganympho

bring my work to work and do work during any big breaks

chunckybydesign

I barely make it

junjhon12

Here’s a tip from someone who was a full-time student and employee, it’s not worth it. Just get your classes then degree and work full-time where the job is t 15/hr.

[deleted]

I’m a full time CS major and it’s hard enough to manage time as a part time worker lol. Only things I really have time for is going to the gym (5am) and hanging out with my girl on Saturday evenings or doing library dates on the weekdays. I also buy takeout a lot more during the semesters. I can only imagine the hell someone would have to deal with as a full time student and worker 💀

EveryIncrease7132

It’s very hard, I work 2 jobs … one on-campus and the other off-campus. I’ve always been academically gifted, but it’s especially hard to do that when your trying to be good at your job, at your school work , and a social life, which for me is completely nonexistent (which is also not normal for a 21 year old.) It’s doable, but it can also kick you in the butt. If you’re going to do this. Please remember to be kind to yourself, don’t string out your body, and especially MAKE A SCHEDULE and ORGANIZE YOUR LIFESTYLE! Once you find that rhythm… keep it. If you’re tired, rest. Good luck to you.

I am ft student and work ft. My college classes are online and my job is actually my practicum/internship. I became a ft employee so i can get paid instead of working for free. I usually do my assignment once a week like Sunday or Wednesday after school. I have adhd so i hyperfocus on my assignments to get them done. Of course i procrastinate and I've got complaints at work for not having things done but I'm literally doing 3 jobs: college student, teacher, and i am a iep case manager counselor so i have to decide for my 1hr of planning should i run and chase students that i need to see b4 the deadline, do hw, or do lesson planning. It is tough to find that work life balance but what i also is, on Saturdays i do absolutely nothing. Use a planner book things in advance and have alarms on your phone. Maybe even visit the spa. It's very tough but it will pass by. Also make time to go 2 the gym, get good rest, try to meal plan. Some jobs let you leave to attend school for like a hr or 2 but you'll definitely push some work to be done at a later time.

Itsthemanmaddy

Do I have to be an honors college student to have access to online classes? I’d like to do the same but I wasn’t sure(transferring to ATL campus next year)

Historianblayde

Everyone has access to online courses. Actually if you're trying to major in tech for example, you can just choose to be 100% online. Certain programs can be done all online. Others are hybrid

Itsthemanmaddy

Ah ok, well I’m majoring in CIS but haven’t done too much research on online programs.

AcceptableFeeling704

I do online so I work when I can full time and then outside of work I try to do one class a day

Itsthemanmaddy

Do i have to be an honors student to access online classes at the Atlanta campus?

baldegg663

No you don’t

Online classes + the 1 required in-person class to get full MHA. I worked 40-60 hours my entire college career and rn I work 80 hours. It gets a little bit easier to manage as you get further in your college career. As someone who also came straight out of the military and worked full-time, I would highly advise against it unless you need to. The MHA for GSU is like $2.4k and should help significantly and then get a part-time job if you really need to. Find a job that is flexible (for me that was restaurants) and management is understanding. I've had times where I just needed the day off because a project was taking longer or I needed extra time to study.

Drugs. Lots of Adderall. Stims go brrrrr

This doesn’t work for every job, but I work Friday through Monday. I work an 11 hour shift Saturday and every other shift is a regular shift. I sacrificed weekends so I can have tues-thurs off and not have to worry about work those days and just focus on school. Monday is the only day I have to go from work directly to school. As long as you manage your time and work, stay organized and what not, you’ll be fine. It’s easy to forget about assignments being due.

parcecarlos

That’s actually a good schedule you have going on, I just wonder what type of jobs would allow me to do this

BadgerDenizen

Don’t be a pussy

ktojm

if it's asynchronous classes it's actually quite doable, i was working 40 hours at walgreens while doing full-time online classes when i was majoring in finance

parcecarlos

I'm pursuing a Computer Science degree, I don't know much about college since I joined the military straight out of high school and now I'm getting out. Does GSU have asynchronous classes? Is it easier to do full-time college with the majority of classes being online?

_____-No-_____

Ask yourself how good you are at math that’s what I had to do because you will be covering college algebra to calc II in a year

ktojm

they do but it depends on the classes, for instance i was able to do online for years straight until i switched majors to CS and their principles of cs classes are IRL only lol it is much easier for me personally with them being online, it helps me balance my life and i don't feel as drained vs being in class but that's just a me thing. i do know ppl who prefer irl classes

CartographerAsleep80

I have a part time and it’s tough, but manageable. I just do whatever work I can on off days, I usually do about 20-25 hours a week working and 12 credit hours so that’s also a factor

Ok_Technician_7264

I was doing that from 2021 Fall semester till the beginning of 2023 spring semester. It's impossible in my opinion UNLESS You're oh kay with graduating later than you expected. Because of my busy work schedule my graduation date has been pushed back by 1 extra semester. You just have to figure out your balance and what job you could do that allows you to do school work while working. I was able to be a receptionist for a year doing fine until I got promoted (at the dane place) to a more active role and that's when school started suffering.

Altruistic-Cut2236

I did both (and am still doing it, very well actually) by basically having no social life. Not very healthy but I've gotten used to it. Would not recommend for the average guy, it'll probably drive you insane.

Today_Original

I worked from home full time while doing asynchronous online classes full time and it was easily doable, but only at 12-15 hours that included an elective. I went part time so I’m taking 15 hours of core classes online + 1 hour in person lab 1 x weekly and I barely get all my required work done M-F, not including studying. I may have just gotten unlucky with time consuming classes this semester but if I was still working full time it would have been a struggle.

Automatic_Dinner_941

I worked in the service industry all throughout undergrad and it was the best thing for me. Missing out on nightlife stuff was hard busy honestly I would get off at 11/11:30 and just meet up with where my friends were and schoolwork done on Sunday. If you can find a service industry job where the check averages are pretty high, the schedule is pretty manageable and the money is good.

MathematicianOk5829

you don’t lol part-time or nothing

Previous-Package3898

It’s possible you just need the right classes and professors and always improving your work ethic

renznoi5

You could make it work by scheduling yourself appropriately. For example, taking only morning and early afternoon classes and then working evenings or nights. Or, doing classes all day on TR, and then working MWF and weekends. There’s many ways to go about doing it. I work three 12s a week (36 hours) FT and still manage a FT class schedule on my off days. I just schedule my shifts around school.

ganjaporium420

I worked a full time job spring and fall semester. I did fine in my classes, fine not great lol. The thing that helped me the most was having a job that had no issues with me doing my school work during slow periods. What would have helped me even more would have been managing my time better. I will say, if you want to work a full time job, but still have some downtime maybe get like a factory job… it sounds really unappealing, but some factories/plants have a schedule where you might work 10~ hour shifts over the span of four days and have the remainder of the week off. The only issue is if you’re dorming then obviously don’t do that. That being said, if you’re taking classes online try to get your school work done at the beginning of the week rather than the end. It takes a lot of stress off of you and you might feel more capable of working a full time job.
