Atlanta is crime and poverty ridden city. it's always like this regardless of whether you're here for school, job or vacation. maybe UGA, Athen is in a relatively small city so crime would be less or maybe Kennesaw state, it's really nice up there

The police here in Atlanta have a budget of about $237 million. Hell a police station is a couple blocks from the Marta station. Nothing’s being done bc they don’t care about you. They never have—red or blue.
There's not much GSU can do, the Racetrac and Marta station are technically not a part of campus. I've been here in Atlanta for years and this is unfortunately nothing new, there's always a shooting or crime going on.
well georgia state could loan some officers to patrol those areas if it means us students will be more protected. multiple shooting and a fondling are insane. i’ve never heard of that before at a college and when i chose ga state they were the #1 school for disabled people. this doesn’t seem like the #1 school when my ibs is constantly flared up from all the stress these incidents have caused me. people need to do better
I like your idea, but practically it's not that simple. These areas aren't technically a part of the campus. GSU has no justification over them since they're not GSU property. Marta has their own police force. There really shouldn't be a reason for GSU to lend them officers. That will take them away from actually being on campus for the students.
I'm so sorry your disability is being affected from stress. My advice from all my years in Atlanta is to just go where you need to go and don't loiter around. If you're taking the Marta train or bus stay in the very front near the driver, trouble makers will usually stay in the back.
Really as unfortunate as it is, if someone wants to shoot someone they will. Having an officer might discourage them, but there's only so much the officer can do. The reality is that any downtown city area will have crime and sketchy people. I don't mean to scare you, just sharing the reality of attending an open campus university downtown.
You know GSU doesn't run the marta station right genius. Please explain what GSU is supposed to do about a shooting at the marta station, property they don't own. By your logic, if a shooting happens at 5 points, peachtree center, or underground it's GSU's fault 🙄

It can't address issues on property it doesn't own even if that property is next door (ex GSU marta station). Marta has to address those issues as well as the city of Atlanta for property they own. GSU can ask them, but if they don't help there's little that can be done.

When you turn 21 and get a CCW you can conseal carry in class, at UGA at least. Atl prolly has some city law against it.
