Don’t do the rock and lock conversion. Stanag is the way to go on these I will die on this hill

warrior55q

You're right though, 5.56 AK mags are far harder to come by and are more expensive, the ambi bolt hold open is also just superior. Idk why anyone would do a conversion for 5.56

davidjq72

Because another dude on Reddit got a bunch of updoots for his RoCk N lOcK cOnVeRsIoN

Substantial_Meat_544

1. They're $25 for the bho ones and like $9 for regular galil mags. Neither have ever been out of stock 2. The ace does not have an "ambi" bolt release.

warrior55q

1. Compared to stanag mags they're still more expensive and you won't find them in a normal gun store 2. Pardon me it's not fully "ambi" it's a right side bolt catch/release, gotta split hairs for the rampant autists around here

Substantial_Meat_544

1. Stop being poor, literally. 2. You just used the word wrong/dont know the features of the gun. Don't try to hide it. And the rnl one would not lose this feature, so moot point to begin with.

warrior55q

1. Absolute tone deaf and retarted response from someone who can't come up with a better argument 2. Ambi (especially when used in an AR context) is generally meant as a more right hand friendly platform allowing a rifle to be charged from the left and bolt locked from the right, so you're correct the literal meaning of ambidextrous means it should be locked and charged from both sides, however given the firearm context of the conversation one would take "ambi" as being "right hand friendly" so you don't know how to understand contextual conversation. Also, rnl does lose last round bolt hold (the most important part) which makes the right side controls almost useless, so it sounds like you don't understand the system

Substantial_Meat_544

1. That's not a lot of money. If the dregs of society can't buy it, that doesn't mean it's expensive. 2. I'm not reading your "I didn't know it wasn't ambi" speech.

warrior55q

1. You clearly don't know what a shitty economy is, and you're really starting to sound like French nobility right before the French revolution, I'll assume you know what happened to them 2. You're not reading it either because you can't read or you can't come up with a counter argument, probably a mix of both

Substantial_Meat_544

If you're so financially destitute, you should not be concerned with guns. You said ambidextrous and that the rnl conversions lose this feature. It is not ambidextrous, and the conversion does not remove this feature. You are wrong. Does that mean the Ace has an ambidextrous charging handle? Or is that for the regular ak 🤔

warrior55q

Financial destitution has nothing to do with our discussion, the second amendment is for everyone, not just rich trust fund babies. I also never said that I was "financially destitute", but again you cannot come up with a good argument so you just resort back to the "hE pOoR" stupidity without actually knowing anything. You're probably one of the morons who buys steel 5.45 for more than 45cpr 🤣 You also simply don't understand context, and you clearly didn't read any of what I previously said, which leads me even further to believe you are in fact a trust fund baby with a reading disability. Your question lacks the same context as a bolt hold/release, so your question is, in fact, moot

Limited_opsec

Yep don't butcher the functionally better version. I bought the factory RNL 13" for fun and because it was an excuse to collect another gen1, but nato magwell 556 is objectively superior in actual use. I saw someone post they wanted to convert a perfectly good 308 to take galil mags and I facepalmed so hard.

[deleted]

I wouldn’t waste the money on a conversion. The steel mag looks pretty nice with this setup. Get the alpha. Sell your factory stock&tube for $400+. As far as who can cut the barrel down I have no idea, as far as known specialists. I would think any competent gunsmith in your area would be able to. You could also call Dissident or m-13 industries, but I’m sure they are months out for that type of thing.

APC9Proer

Yes, M-13 is great. They worked on my AKs. long wait for sure.

FOXYRAZER

I have a 5.56 R&L, mags are expensive and rather exclusive to this 5.56 ak and the R4 so ;/ Probably just stick with the stanag. I have a Midwest Industries rail bc its $100 where as the RS rails are $220, its your money but I don't think its worth $120 more for the RS. The Midwest alpha stocks are OK, pretty expensive and they don't really let you shoot folded (not that you really would anyway). I'd say keep your current stock as the Midwest is still 1lb 5oz and you're probably not gonna use the adjustable features.

APC9Proer

Thanks. Agreed

GreatMrPoo

Rnl galil with old school conversion and aloha stock [alpha stock on galil](https://imgur.com/a/E0uuLsT)

GreatMrPoo

Alpha haha not aloha

Dexter-the-Cat

I had a triangle / tube stock on mine when I got the rifle. The stock looked cool but slipped on my shoulder a lot and offered no cheek weld if using anything other than iron sights. I swapped to the factory stock but found it couldn’t get close enough to the receiver to provide significant eye relief on my magnifier. So then I swapped it to the KNS stock adapter with Midwest Industries pic rail to AR buffer tube. It’s a beefy piece of equipment and solid AF. I feel like the tube stock would be more ideal on a 8.3” SBR than a full length rifle with an optic. I also think you should stick with the STANAG mags instead of switching to R&L for the same reasons others have already mentioned. The R&L looks cool for sure but STANAG has too much upside for practical use imho.

APC9Proer

Agreed

HotMonth1798

I’m thinking about putting one of those M-LOK rails on mine. How does it affect the accuracy?

APC9Proer

Kinda like it. Might have to sell this one since I’m going to chop this off.

HotMonth1798

Has it had a noticeable drop in MOA since you put it on? Does it shift the point of impact? Have you tested it?

APC9Proer

Didn’t really see much changes. I shoot AKS so don’t really count MOA

[deleted]

Needs more quad rail

Much_News84

We get it

[deleted]

Sorry buddy, Reddit glitched out

Reasonable-Try3542

Pin and weld a Supressor? Why not just form 1 it and chop to any length the reason I see to pin and weld a Supressor is if you can do it yourself to save time and money and if your in a state that doesn’t like nfa items/ makes it difficult

APC9Proer

Not p&w suppressor. P&w muzzle device for over 16”

Reasonable-Try3542

Ohhh my bad at first read I missed the “for”. But personally that doesn’t sound bad but when I get mine I’d like to shoot it first and see if the form 1 is worth it. As for other handguards I didn’t know there was a large galil aftermarket.
