This is so far the most mysterious thing I ve ever found on laptops. In theory, 13980hx shall support 4800 / 5600 / 5200 2R( 32g \*2). But I got this on my Scar 16. Original 16\*2 4800mhz Hynix ram, all good. 32\*2 5600mhz Hynix ram, wont pass POST, keep rebooting. 32\*1 5600mhz Hynix ram, wont pass POST, keep rebooting. 16\*2 5600mhz Samsung ram, POST passed, but only works on 4800mhz. 16\*1 5600mhz Samsung ram, POST passed, but only works on 4800mhz. 16\*2 5600mhz Hynix ram, wont pass POST, keep rebooting. 16\*1 5600mhz Hynix ram, POST passed, works on 5600mhz as expected. 16\*1 5600mhz Samsung ram + 16\*1 5600mhz Hynix ram, POST passed, but only works on 4800mhz. So far it may not be a solid conclusion, but I highly suspect that this machine can only support rams under 16g to run on 5600mhz. I also heard rumors saying that some people are good withh 5600mhz Ram with their strix on 32g ram and 5200 on 64g ram, but havent see any proofs like SC yet

Arnous777

except the test on 32g 5600mhz Hynix ram unit was tested on 306 bios, all the other test were tested on 307bios with no uncervolting to cpu

How long did you let it post for? I heard it can take up to 5 minutes to post with new memory.

Odd-Gate-1017

I just bought 64Gb Kingston Fury Impact DDR5 5600 (2×32Gb), mounted it to my strix scar 18 and... it does not turn on, does not even enter bios. Only the keyboards lights up... I suspected that the ram might not work at 5600, but I thought it would just work at 4800 and I would have a 64Gb 4800. Now I put back my 32Gb... And the new ram just put it on the shelf... Waste of money. We can only hope that Asus will someday add support for 5600 ram in future bios updates

DullAbalone5204

I asked asus when high frequency ram will be supported and this is their answer: Dear customer, yes the laptop G834JZ support the RAM memory DDR5 with 5600MHz.

How_Johnny_C_Do

Weird I installed the exact same RAM on my Strix Scar 18 and it turned on, the memory went up to 64GBs but my speed was still 4800MHz. But I haven’t messed with BIOS or XMP yet to see if that would pickup the pace

Odd-Gate-1017

Did you unplagged battery, when you change memory stics?

How_Johnny_C_Do

I did not

Frostylolzz

U didn't have to

hotsalamii

How long did you have to wait until the laptop recognized the 64 GB memory? I installed the 2x32GBDDR5 4800 memory from Crucial, and similar to the OP, the keyboard would light up, however, it never booted to windows. I waited a good 20 minutes before I gave up.

Odd-Gate-1017

Oh... It was a terrible experience. At first i thought the memory was not working with my laptop. I have rebooted it several times. Then I tried to combine the stock memory stick with the new one... In the first slot, then in the second. And at one point the laptop turned on, then I put the second module and everything worked. In total, I rebooted the laptop 10-20 times. I already wanted to return a new memory. A very strange situation... I have been working with computer hardware for many years and this is the first time I have seen this...

fulo009

Were you able to get it working? Im having the same issue

hotsalamii

I tried 2 batches of the same 2 x32 GB 4800 Crucial memory, and unfortunately, I was not able to get them to work. I returned them back to amazon.

fulo009

Dam I ordered the same ram but 2 x16, I hope I can at least get this config to work

hotsalamii

There is a new BIOS 307 that was just released today for my Scar 18. Your machine might also have this new BIOS update. It might work with the new BIOS update.

fulo009

Hey I had the same issue but my ram is samsung (x2 32gb sticks). My laptop keyboard would light up but no luck starting up. I left it for 10 minutes and nothing happened, did you find a fix?

Odd-Gate-1017

I don't know for sure, but some people wrote that they waited about 20 minutes. And some write that 10-20 reboots are needed, and that's what happened to me...

King4aVape

Same problem here... 64 gb crucial 4800 and the pc doesn't turn on... Strange because the speed is the spec speed and crucial site lists this kit as compatibile with my laptop model

mycall

Did you wait about 5 minutes for POST to happen?

barnabasjohnthomas

Anything new? I'm looking to buy a Scar 16, but I need 64 GB of RAM. I'd be very grateful if someone could let me know if that's possible or I need to look to MSI.

drakanx

as long as the laptop is off, there's really no need to disconnect the battery. Pop off the back cover, swap the ram, close the cover. Didn't even know people disconnected the battery to do something as quick and simple as swapping ram sticks.

ThreadedNY

Hi my friend, If battery is connected and conductive piece is dropped while laptop is open, you can shorting critical data lines with 20V power or some higher voltage line and kill laptop. In time I work at repair shop, one time one tech neglect to unplugging battery and killing customer SSD data when screw drop from him screwdriver. Regards,

matterd1984

Good advice. Bad advice from the guy above. Odds are you’ll be fine… but you never know.

ggoldfingerd

Does it support faster ram yet (5600) or more?

DullAbalone5204

I wish I knew but I bought 5600

ggoldfingerd

Some one said the Asus was working on a BIOS update for this. Asus mentioned this on a live stream. Hopefully that is true. Idk why Asus stuck with the same speed this year as last year.

SumonaFlorence

Any update to share?

Calm-Imagination-786

For those who have upgraded the Ram of the Strix Scar 18 2023 from 32GB to 64 GB have you noticed any difference? I plan to do the upgrade with 4800mhz. Just not sure if I'll really notice any change

Low_Ad2142

What ram did you buy and did it work I wanna do the same thing but 16 to 32 gigs

Urizen82

Any movement on this? Was looking to purchase this laptop, but might go a different direction if this is still a running issue/ not somewhat seamless.

NikoLeven

New bios update was just released, so hopefully somebody can chime in. If it works, then I'm thinking of ordering a 6400 MT/s kit from Kingston and seeing if that at least goes to 5600 MT/s

Zealousideal-Head285

Just installed crucial 64 GB ddr5, benchmark running at 5600 MHz 👍✌️

NikoLeven

No way, which model number are are your SODIMMs?

Zealousideal-Head285

Sorry... I meant to say 5200.... LMAO...

Zealousideal-Head285

Yeah 5200 is the max. I installed 5600 to test if it would work. Benching at 5200 MHz.

NikoLeven

Good to know. Hopefully we can get more people to test this.

Zealousideal-Head285

My system is a ASUS ROG Strix scar 17. RTX 4090 AMD 7945HX I installed a crucial ram upgrade and a t500 upgrade. ( Two m.2 slots). So the t500 is a slave for additional memory. Seems to be running fine and I got a boost of about 5-10 fps on star citizen it seem.

NikoLeven

ah... this post was meant for the Scar 16 and 18 notebooks with the intel 13980HX. The Ryzen notebooks have a completely different behavior, so we can't compare the results. Good for you for getting that to work though.

Royce911

Hi, just bought the ASUS ROG G18 G814JZ Nebula Display (18", Intel Core i9, 16 GB RAM, GTX 4080, 1000 GB SSD) it “only” have 16Gb of RAM but I got a good deal at black Friday so I’m planning to upgrade the ram as soon as I receive it. Could you please advise me of any RAM to buy ? Can I go to 64 (2x32) ? Or am I limited to 32 ( 2x16) ? thanks

DullAbalone5204

64gb should work. Just check out what frequency fits your laptop.
