When an IP like Star Wars (or Marvel, or whatever) is mined over and over again, the chances of a great project diminishes. There are a couple of Marvel projects that are cool, and a couple of new Star Wars projects that are cool, but I think it's entirely unsurprising that a lot are just ok at best. When I was a kid, in the 70s 80s, sequels were regularly parodied in MAD as what they usually were: cash grabs. Star Wars was surprising in that the two sequels were good! But pulling off a run like that is a rare thing indeed.
