i always found the sharp edge of a table worked best to straighten them out.

bg370

Totally except when the edge turns out to have a smooth bevel which was never as good

dethb0y

yeah you gotta get that sharp 90 degree edge.

Groovy_Chainsaw

... Or if you rented a place that didn't have a washer/dryer in the 90s, and had to clean your clothes at a laundromat

bg370

Oh yea, I remember putting the quarters in a horizontal tray on the washing machines

MinnNiceEnough

That damn quarter changing machine at Aladdin’s Castle…

bg370

Some of those machines were way too picky about perfectly decent bills

Just_Membership447

Still have token coin.

Expat111

8 tokens on Wednesday for that $1.

bg370

Wait what i never had that

Expat111

I don’t remember the actual day but my arcade at the mall had double tokens day once a week. I assume it was midweek to boost business.

chontzy

especially those corners!

Key_Tower3959

Annnnd... reinsert it, try again to straighten what your thought was straight... then try 2 more times, and theeen it takes.

Optimal-Ad-7074

make sure it's right way round.  and up.

TheHouIeigan

95% of the arcades I went to had a person to change money. Not a machine.

Five_Toes_Left

I usually just handed the $10 bill my mom gave me to the arcade attendant for a roll of quarters. In the early 80s those coin machines did not exist yet, in video arcades anyway. I don't remember seeing them there till 85 or so? I could be wrong. Anyway...back then an arcade and 40 quarters for me meant I was set for at least the next 3 hours. Spy Hunter was one of my all time favorites. I could burn hours on that game alone.

Top-Dream-2115

I don't think you're wrong...I didn't really see those coin machines until '88. But, I do recall seeing dollar-to-token machines at Showbiz in '83, so, maybe the tech was there...

Five_Toes_Left

Yeah it definitely could be that it existed earlier. The place my family lived back then was a little off the beaten path, so technology usually took a bit longer to reach our area than if we lived close to a big city.

Right on the corner of the bill change machine, my friend
