Sumeru is colossal compared to Mondstadt lol. And that’s not even considering the massive underground, which Mondstadt doesn’t have. I have nostalgia feeling for Sumeru.
I mean mondstadt did get an expansion in dragonspine, but that was all the way back in 1.2. We really need the northern areas soon, or at the very least the 1.6 event area never should have gotten deleted.

Yes! You are so right, expansion is always related to quests and lore. Or else we'll end up with something similar to an empty Bayda Harbor environment that was added just to finally complete the area (although this could be related to Cyno's quests and Sumeru's withering lore, but we won't be able to confirm/deny that for a couple of weeks).

snezhnaya is very likely north of/near mondstadt so anything regarding the port or borders would be saved for at least post natlan cause that's where crumbs & quests of the near nation would make the most sense.
From what I can see, Mondstadt still missing a massive chunk of the entire northern half, Liyue still missing a chunk of north eastern Chenyu vale and southern Liyue, Sumeru still missing it's south and western parts, and Fontaine still missing a chunk of it's north east and north west parts.
I expect the Callas route (mentioned in Navia's story quest) to be rebuilt in game in the next couple years and they add a new region there northern that connects with Snezhnaya too.
If you go to the edge and look, it doesn’t seem like there’s anything south of Sumeru other than a small strip of coastline. There might be an expansion west at some point though, whether as part of Natlan or Sumeru.

Absolutely crazy that when the game came out, everyone called mondstadt and liyue a "massive" map. Now it's completely dwarfed. This game is fuckin huge.
Remember. there's even areas in the game not shown here, The Chasm Underground, Enka, and the new underwater area are all huge and don't appear on the main map.
Is it only me or does the Sumeru appear to be twice as big as any other nation contentwise? Like it is the biggest of them all and on top of that there is this desert cave system that is easily larger then mondstadt + dragonspine.

Better add it as addition to fishing. Something like net fishing in spot with extra rare chance to get mermaid. Also, it would give literally zero profit unless it's a skin. And using mesh-alterating skin is something Hoyo would never do.
I just hope Natlan would be desert at max 30%. I won't be able to survive another sand year.

I would love to know HoYo’s metrics and see if even adding Cheyu Valley is too overwhelming for casuals and causes them to stumble into Fontaine/Sumeru instead of Liyue.
Gladly, Cheyu Valley (And Liyue overall) has significantly limited vertical movement.
TLDR: Going up and down on mountain terrain is easier for player mind than going up and down in deep water surface, primarily because you have better landmarks and understanding of size of verticality.
It's hard to explain in words, but advising a fellow player to try Innaris from tower of fantasy is a crime, so I'll put it simple: if you have a location trice or even 5x deeper than standard Fontaine depth - you have a LOT of empty unused space. The only way to "fill" it is to place some points of interest on random altitude between ground and sea level. On land, you can approximate how far you need to climb. In vast sea you don't have such privilege. Leaving all points of interest on same depth is a bad design choice, so player would have to CONSTANTLY go up and down, hoping they ~~would die~~ would end this quickly.
It's much better to compare water deeps with western part of Sumeru desert from 3.1 than Cheyu. Wide field of nothing, but you can move vertical to find more of "nothing".
Underwater is the special thing of Fontaine, so this will never happen as much I want. And seeing how much people can't handle anymore even diving in Fontaine itself, imagine somewhere.
I think a chunk of Fontaine is still missing, and looking at it like that, the northern part of Mondstadt needs expanding too, and they need to properly outline the southern sea between Liyue Harbor and Port Ormos. All that besides the two remaining nations which will also be gradually revealed.

If the explorable water between liyue, sumeru and fontaine is 9GB of space update, I can only imagine the ocean between mondstadt/Liyue to Inazuma being a whooping 40GB in mobile and 90GB in pc/console

The minor area to complete the Sumeru coastline facing Fontaine is around 50% of the size of pre-Dragonspine Mondstadt! And it has barely any enemies.
sumeru doesnt have a separate map like chasm/enka/remuria, so desert pretty much play that role. Mondstadt is mondstadt

The Dandelion sea is not a real place, I don't know why everyone thinks it's coming in the future. It's only ever been mentioned in one book.
