Why would a ghost need to open a window? Wouldnāt a ghost just pass through a closed window?
The character in that top window looks like a drawn character kinda. But I think itās a real person who opened a windowā¦and is looking out.
To be fair, people have said itās an active base, so the window couldāve already been opened and a ghost passing by might think āoh, an open window to lean out of all ghost-likeā

OP this is most likely a Military Serviceman having a cheeky smoke as a very very small detachment are garrisoned at the Castle, With a 6 Month rotation I believe

One of my favourite photos of me is where Iām at the top of a castle, and Iām really far away and waving. When you zoom in it looks like Iām a fat man with a beard, when in actual fact Iām a plump woman with no beard. This isnāt a ghost. Sorry.

Sometimes mold remediation or water damage they will set up fans to dry things out and may have needed to vent from an area without windows.
Itās a person. If he moved slightly when you took the picture, thereās a strong chance he would be blurry and the building wouldnāt, because the building didnāt move.

The castle still has an active military garrison, as well as the Governor of Edinburgh Castle who stay at the castle. The New Barracks contain both the Governor's House, which serves as the Officers' Mess, and the Regimental Headquarters of the Royal Regiment of Scotland. Members of the military and members of staff would both be at the castle at this time.
