If you played GoW 2018 and went into Ragnarök with the expectation of just mindlessly killing gods, you might have missed the point.

Did you play God of War 3? I’m not hating on ya, but you should replay it because that opening sequence was far beyond the best parts of this game… maybe the wolf battle came close, but if feels as if they’ve sacrificed the epic intensity that popularized these games for character dynamics and over-humanization of the villains.

I don't agree. "Far beyond" is subjective here, I thought for example that the first Thor fight in Ragnarök more than holds its own against the series' best fights, the second Baldur fight in 2018 as well. As for the epic intensity being sacrificed - maybe. But I think the *vast* improvement in characterisation more than makes up for it. You can disagree, of course, it's a matter of preference. I feel there's plenty of 'epic' in the new games.

You brought a great point about the last part of your reply because you’re right. Now I personally don’t mind them making characters complex (to a certain point ofc) but to not meet or surpass the amount of grand and monumental moments, in terms of action to what the older games presented is a knife to the heart to the veterans of the series. Which is disappointing…

I just joined this sub after beating the game and I sincerely hope that there are more opinions like this post! I was massively disappointed by the storyline/decisions for the story of this game… I could keep adding to the list of disappointments you made but I’m too defeated. I can tell you enjoyed God of War 3 as much as I did. You are definitely not alone in your disappointment!

Thank you for your opinion and I’m sorry you had to play through that ass of a story to this once great franchise.
