I bought the Pixel 5 unlocked from Best Buy last year and was able to pick it up right as they opened on launch day

jvolkman

And with this method, you can choose not to pick it up and just get a refund if you don't like the reviews.

ElevatorNo4099

So you think Best Buy will have it tomorrow ?

bkbkjbb

I'm buying straight from the Google store like always.

TurboFool

I will too, although they do use FedEx, which is always unfortunate.

bkbkjbb

They use UPS for me, last couple times. Been really quick

TurboFool

That would be great. Here it's either FedEx from them, or sometimes Golden State Overnight. The latter is no problem, but FedEx always finds a way to complicate things or lie about me not being available for delivery.

bartturner

That is a good question. I really want one on launch day so it is also going to depend on where you can actually get one. Now with the far more aggressive pricing than expected is only going to make it harder to get one. Also, with the more aggressive pricing will their be a lot of promotions?

puccioladie

Does google usually sell their phone right at the beginning of their talk?

intrepidpursuit

No. Rumor is launch day is October 28th. They may open a preorder right away though.

shadlom

Preorders are definitely tomorrow

fib235

Or use discover at target for 5% cashback..

camerontylek

Target Redcard gives you 5% off also.

DogAteMyCPU

Does the redcard have an exclusion for google products, or is that just target promos?

camerontylek

It's anything purchased at target.

AnynameIwant1

I'm pretty sure there is limitations on the Red Card 5%. For instance, they won't discount prescriptions even if you pay cash and/or buying gift cards.

EmDeeNay

You don't get 5% on prescriptions because the pharmacy is CVS and not Target. But everything else gets the 5% except Target gift cards and prepaid Visa cards.

AnynameIwant1

Per their website: 5% discount does not apply to the following: Prescriptions, over-the-counter items located behind the pharmacy counter and clinic services at Target Target Optical eye exams and protection plans (Target Optical products, such as glasses and contact lenses, do receive the 5% discount) Target gift cards and prepaid cards, Game On, Gift of College and lottery gift cards Previous purchases Target credit account payments, Target Debit Card cash back and cash advances on the Target Mastercard Shipt membership fees Alcohol purchases in Indiana Wireless protection program purchases and deposits required by mobile carrier Gift wrapping services Taxes, shipping, delivery, handling and all other fees or charges Where otherwise prohibited by law CVS bought the pharmacy a few years ago. The restriction on pharmacy items predated that change.

isaacsmall

Does anyone know for certain if the pixel 6 will be unlocked if we buy straight from Google, based on past trends? I have been planning to import it since it was announce, I haven't considered if I could ever use it in my country, Singapore

adi73510

What's the 5% PayPal offer?

Mr_Choom

The Chase freedom flex credit card has rotating 5% categories. This quarter is 5% cash back at Walmart or paying with Paypal

Mr_Choom

The Google store allows you to select PayPal from Google Pay

intrepidpursuit

Gosh, rewarding you for buying with a credit card through paypal through google pay is super convoluted. But whatever works!

Mr_Choom

Weird, shows up for me on the 5a 🤷🏻‍♂️

andyooo

Have you tried this before? I know Paypal as a source doesn't work for 5% cashback credit cards if you use GPay in-store, but haven't tried it online. I'm gonna use Paypal Key just to be sure. I also went through the buying process until the last step to see if it would allow Paypal, and it didn't open a Paypal window to log in and accept the charge like usual, it is just enabled via GPay so I'm not sure that Paypal would distinguish online vs in-store payments through GPay.

aangel724

If you already have a PayPal account, look in to the PayPal Key. It's essentially a dummy MasterCard debit number with expiration date and CVV. You can link it to your Chase card, or any payment method you've added to your PayPal account. Google Store will see it as a regular MasterCard and the Chase credit card will see it from PayPal.

adi73510

Ahh I see, thanks

Secularpride

Chase total checking debit card has 10% cash back for best buy purchase currently. FYI.

Mr_Choom

Details pls. Do not have a Chase bank account rn tho

YeezyAviator

Isn't it capped at $35 back though?

Ryuulin

Capped at $25 for me, but I have a Best Buy Card so I'll probably use that for $50 back.

sansart

Something I'm considering is the case it doesn't work out and needs to be returned. I believe Google and Target have a restocking fee whereas Best Buy and Amazon don't

kking112391

Yes

Dietcherrysprite

They work with anyone. Even the locked ones become unlocked after time.

zirman

I never understand why people want a tech thing "day one" without test, without feedback, nothing.

bartturner

This year it is more important because of the chip shortage. If you do not get on launch it might take a while until there is more supply.

zirman

Good point.

[deleted]

Because return policies exist.

[deleted]

Doubt there will be any significant hardware defects/quality control issues going on. So what's to fear? Any glitches can be fixed in updates. Its not like every launch goes perfect. Plenty of minor issues going on still with the iPhone 13 that they had to patch.

YeezyAviator

Gonna depend on the deals out there. US doesn't seem to get the freebie Bose deals and stuff, but might be some other stuff out there. I don't imagine my 3XL will fetch any worthwhile trade-in value, but that could be a factor. Leaning towards straight from T-Mobile, so I can avoid the hassle down the line of Google vs T-Mobile "pointing the blame to each other", when my phone has issues. Dealt with this on my 3XL a few months back and it was basically T-Mobile blaming Google for the phone and Google blaming T-Mobile for the service, all because I had an unlocked phone.

JayGoat

I just signed up for Google One 2TB which will give me 10% back into my Google Pay Balance. So not exactly cash back, but it's the highest I've seen. After paying for the 2 months of Google One, it works out to be around an 8% discount if the phone is $1k. This is if you purchase directly from Google.

aangel724

I have a Best Buy Visa Card that has a time specific deal of 10% cash back in rewards up to $50 but only valid until 10/23 otherwise it falls back to 6%. It there a chance pre-orders will charge the card on 10/22 if that happens to be the pre-order date?

indigoisturbo

I'm feel 95% sure best buy charged at the time of purchase and not when item ships or is available. 95%.. not 100%

BrooklynzKilla

Anyone know which place will have the best pre order bonus?

indigoisturbo

I want to see about this Pixel Pass because I subscribe to a bit of this Google stuff but I simply don't know enough about it to know if it makes sense for me. I would want to know everything before inquiring on my credit to be eligible. Do I want to go through the entire process tomorrow on Google store of inquiring on my credit and buying the phone? Then dealing with selling my s21U? Eh... Maybe. Typically I buy things from Best Buy. I'm a total tech member as well so small perks come with that. I also can trade my S21 Ultra in there as of right now for $625 (which I'm willing to do). Plus I can walk into the store and buy it. If there is any sort of issue I can return to that store and I don't have to think about Fed Ex. I'll wait as long as I can tomorrow. We will see what happens.
