Lots of guitars have painted necks, I think you mean painted fretboards. I've seen custom guitars with them but the paint would wear off pretty fast so I don't imagine it would be a popular option.

Tejodor_TheSecond

Yes that's what I meant, I'm sorry for being slightly stupid. Got this random idea of making my own custom guitar part by part, and got interested if I could paint the fretboard without making it unplayable.

mrmongey

Do you mean the fretboard ?

Tballz9

Lots of fender guitars with maple fretboards are painted, but with a clear or slight yellow tinted paint. Dean made some neon things a few years ago that had painted fretboards. Lots of custom guitars over the years have had painted fretboards. As to why color painted boards are not more popular, it is a mix of a lack of wear resistance and looking dirty all the time that makes this less than popular.

[yeah man they exist](https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/PKVTMGSW--jackson-pro-series-king-v-kvtmg-electric-guitar-snow-white)

Sorry I was thinking about fretboards, not necks, my bad.

Epiphone did some cool things with finelic(sp?) Fingerboards that were all white. They're out of production and super sought after now so they go for a lot even used I'm afraid, but look up the Epiphone Matt Heafy Snofall or Epiphone Brendon Small Snow Falcon if you want to see what I'm talking about.

Tejodor_TheSecond

Yup, that's what I was looking for. And WOW the Snowfall Les Paul looks so sick, and I'm not even a Les Paul guy.

I think the Fender John 5 signature has a white fretboard.

You mean like a Dean Zone? Or like the Gibson Buckethead? A lot of players prefer a thin finish on a wood fretboard, and paint means more finish and more clear coat. So it’ll be a little tackier, and feel more polished. Though to be fair, I think Brian May’s fretboard is made of Bakelite, which is old plastic.

Tejodor_TheSecond

Yeah, like Dean Zone. Is the finish on the fretboard the same as the one on the body and does it change playability of the guitar? I'm asking cause I think just a fully white guitar would look sick. Similar to John 5's tele (as OrangeNo3829 pointed out in the replies) but without the black pickguard.
