"'Cause you're hot then you're cold
You're yes then you're no
You're in then you're out
You're up then you're down
You're wrong when it's right
It's black and it's white"
I got suckered by the ads for this like twenty years ago. It wasn't super expensive, but I was a broke college kid and I'm STILL pissed off at how awful that thing was, and that I feel for it.
Those picks with the ridges on one side and a cutaway on the other. They are still around. Supposed to sound like you’re playing a 12 string, but in reality it sounds like you’re playing guitar with a zipper.
Have you tried the “high end” prime tone picks? I actually really like them. They’re not so much gimmicky but the edges are angled perfectly for how the pick would naturally wear down.
This is so stupid
I'm trying to find out how I can order them. One for me, one for my daughter.
I have a collection of weird picks. Most of them are like wood, or mammoth tusk, or weird materials. Pick of destiny, etc. I keep them all in a box in my music room, they call can be used.
This will be mine. Oh yes, this will be mine.
Hahaha yes!
What’s your favourite weird pick you got?
I did a quick search for the pick and if your in the states it looks like Arkansas Musicworks has some in stock (they sell on ebay, amazon, and reverb)
I ordered a 3-pack from them directly, was around $24 usd shipped
My favorite unique one is definitely the mastodon ivory, my favorite pick is my very first dunlop nylon. My dad was in Nashville and brought it home in the late 90s. Literally one pick, I think it just wound up in his pocket.
I'm no expert, but mammoth ivory isn't banned due to the age.
Literally hundreds of places you can buy them. I got mine for christmas probably a decade ago.
I can vouch for these. Very handy when you need a strummer, a blues pick, and a speed pick. The grommets actually help me grip it. IIRC, the blue is a .55, and the other 2 are 1.2 or 1.4.
I love to hear that! Ever since I got into guitar, I’ve always preferred jazz 3 picks (I love their compact size and love the point) but I’m going to try and use this.
This is a silly question but is there specific style of jazz you prefer?
Yeah lots of guitar gimmicks. But hey I saw you saying you liked the feel of this thing so if this thing really works for you and having three tips easily accessible is a big plus then that’s great. I’m fact who knows, maybe in five years we will all have these things lol
I’ll sound a little stupid, but the light blue side sounds just like any soft/bendy pick, nothing I can really rant about.
The black side is nice and vibrant in its sound,
The red side is actually a more muted sound of the black side, kind of like I’m playing in a sound proof room (if that makes sense)
It’s interesting, it’s the size of a jazz 3 pick, feels comfortable, and the grommets feel natural to the pick, it adds some grip. It’s definitely something I’d recommend to someone who plays or is involved in different genres of music.
No unfortunately I work out of town more than I'm home these day. I played bass in a country band for years and probably learned the most theory doing that, until I dug into really working on stuff during covid. I'm a very intermediate player lol.
These look weird but the thumb picks Backmountain make with the spring are awesome. If you’re a finger picker it’s definitely worth the few bucks to see if they work for you. I bought a few extra of the red and black ones (think they might be large size)
They make slides and ring slides than have a flap on a spring inside too, it keeps the slide snug on your finger. I thought the ring slide looked interesting and turns out I love it.
bro check out Attak picks, they’re white and have a aggressive look, but each side gives a different sound, kinda looks like a jazz pick but bigger, has a rounded edge, game changers as fuck
I can see why you’d like the novelty of it.
But the picks don’t exactly scream efficiency.
I think I’d find them burdensome,
but here’s to trying new things! 🍻
So cool to see a Canadian made product on my timeline, omg! It’s hard to find anything Canadian around here, and on the rare times that I do, the markups are quite high.
And the third angel sounded
And a star fell from heaven
Burning as it were a lamp
And it fell upon the third part of the waters
ASTEROID!!!
(Sorry, just couldn't help but hear that song in my head... That pick looks wonky)
I use the same picks (1.14 tortex) and i wont change… no, i dont need to experiment, and never actually met anyone that changes picks for any reason. Everyone end up sticking to one (or a few, but not caring about specifics)
Might try this but I’ve tried so many throughout the years lol. Nowadays I just use either Tortex, Herco Flex 75, or whatever Jazz pick is lying around.
I can't see how those would be comfortable, however Black Mountain makes really nice thumb picks (if you use thumb picks). They have a little spring for the fit and they are the best i've used
This is interesting.
I have been getting into big triangle picks. I like the way they sit in my hand. I have been looking for a pick that has a thicker grip but a thinner point. Exactly like that blue tip. Might try this out.
I thought these were earrings at first.
Maybe I'd buy them to add to my weird pick collection. I can't imagine them being super comfortable to play with.
Sorry, a useless toy for anyone serious about playing guitar, mandolin, banjo or other Western, plucked, stringed instrument! There are Asian instruments where they use really large plectra, like, the: Shamisen, Pipa, Biwa, etc. But, for guitarists, a waste of $15! Will, eventually end up in a landfill!
:(
I can already tell those grommets would bother the shit out of me.
Finally tried the pick, it’s weird to say but the grommets felt natural to the pick when holding/using it.
Fair enough, it's probably similar to how a star pick feels
Also a hard pass for the reason you described above lol.
Kinda not really, it’s the size of a jazz 3 pick, so it actually ain’t that big.
You mean 3 jazz III picks stitched together?
When I saw the pick, I thought this - the grommets seem like they'd make it a bit more grippy, which I need.
It’s… it’s… it’s… hmmm
If you’re a little higher then you won’t feel it.
Words to live by.
Or just cut it off.
These look cumbersome.
Too heavy, too light, too black or too white, too wrong or too right
"'Cause you're hot then you're cold You're yes then you're no You're in then you're out You're up then you're down You're wrong when it's right It's black and it's white"

Isn’t that Shanaya Twain?
No no no, yeah. No no no, yeah.
Today or tonight?
Goldilocks and the three plectrums
7 Mary 3 Tips 3 Sounds
Man how much do you like Collective Soul?
What does collective soul have to do with massive guitar picks?
Or 7 Mary 3? Wait, are Jon and Ponch here? 😆
Man, I played "after all" y'day after years. I'd forgotten about them.
*”COOOUUUUMBERSOOOUUMMEEE..”*
I’ve tried several gimmick picks over the years. None of them were worth it.
Oh wild, which gimmick pick was the worst one you tried?
Jellyfish. It just sounded like metal scraping or slightly mimicked the sound of a 12 string
"It belongs in the garbage and I passionately dislike it." -samuraiguitarist on the jellyfish pick
I remember those being advertised years ago. Whenever I see a gimmick pick, I think of the Jellyfish.
I got suckered by the ads for this like twenty years ago. It wasn't super expensive, but I was a broke college kid and I'm STILL pissed off at how awful that thing was, and that I feel for it.

I know exactly which ones your talking about. My wife makes fun and calls it a potato chip
Have you tried the “high end” prime tone picks? I actually really like them. They’re not so much gimmicky but the edges are angled perfectly for how the pick would naturally wear down.
Yes. I have a few of them. I used on acoustics.
I like the Dunlop Flow better. Feels like a hefty Jazz three. Also has grip.
Me too
Dunlop Flow 2.5 Jumbo for the win. After decades of experimenting and finally making my own, Dunlop comes along and makes them for me.
Yeah, I got them because I really have gotten into flat-picking bluegrass. I use them for everything now.
This same company’s thumb picks are legit though
This is so stupid I'm trying to find out how I can order them. One for me, one for my daughter. I have a collection of weird picks. Most of them are like wood, or mammoth tusk, or weird materials. Dunlop nylons are all i use anymore, forget the tortex.
How the hell did you get a mammoth tusk pick??
I'm no expert, but mammoth ivory isn't banned due to the age. Literally hundreds of places you can buy them. I got mine for christmas probably a decade ago.
I’ve seen tusk bridge pins on stew mac as well. Interestingly they won’t export them out of the US though…
Solution looking for a problem.
I can vouch for these. Very handy when you need a strummer, a blues pick, and a speed pick. The grommets actually help me grip it. IIRC, the blue is a .55, and the other 2 are 1.2 or 1.4.
That’s pretty sweet!
I’m a jazz player. I sometimes have use for this. Especially the light and the sharp heavy in one place.
I love to hear that! Ever since I got into guitar, I’ve always preferred jazz 3 picks (I love their compact size and love the point) but I’m going to try and use this. This is a silly question but is there specific style of jazz you prefer?
Use nail files to thin to of the points of a triangular and get three thicknesses.
Its made in canada eh?
Yes sure is friend
Made out of maple syrup and hockey sticks
Mixed with discarded parts of hockey sticks from the Stanley Cup
Vancouver area.
I guess OP won’t be taking his pick “off” eh? Ha! Heh heh!
Ehhhhh! 😆
It just seems very unnecessary and over the top but hey to each their own
There’s a pick I saw not long ago called the jellyfish pick, that was an unnecessary pick.
Yeah lots of guitar gimmicks. But hey I saw you saying you liked the feel of this thing so if this thing really works for you and having three tips easily accessible is a big plus then that’s great. I’m fact who knows, maybe in five years we will all have these things lol
Isn't that 2 piks?
It is one pic, though. So he’s close.
1 pic of 2 3 tip picks
Technically 6? You are right though it’s 2 picks, but 1 pick pack
Worth it?
I won’t lie, I kinda think so, not something I’d use every day, but good to have for random scenarios.
Lol I can barely play premeditated scenarios.
What sounds does it make?
I’ll sound a little stupid, but the light blue side sounds just like any soft/bendy pick, nothing I can really rant about. The black side is nice and vibrant in its sound, The red side is actually a more muted sound of the black side, kind of like I’m playing in a sound proof room (if that makes sense)
I am lame for this but….just gimme a fucking Fender Medium.
What do you think of them? I’ve been curious.
It’s interesting, it’s the size of a jazz 3 pick, feels comfortable, and the grommets feel natural to the pick, it adds some grip. It’s definitely something I’d recommend to someone who plays or is involved in different genres of music.
Nice. I’ll have to grab a pack myself. Have seen this pop up but have never gone for it. Could be fun.
I’m mostly a jazz player now. This pick comes in handy to me when I’m having to switch between comping off beats and single note.
Yeah, I can see how it be useful. Definitely interested in checking them out.
p.
Will the fun never end?? 😭
Have you heard of sharkfin picks?
Reminds me of the jellyfish pick.
Black Mountain is a great brand, I love their thumb picks and slides. Ive wanted to try one of these but never gotten around to it.
Phil mcknight reviewed them. I'm not into premium picks, but he liked them. If you're going to get a weird pick, try a sharkfin. They're way cheaper.
Jazz III / John Petrucci signature is my go to
Kirk Hammet Jazz III for me because I like purple and sparkles. And it's the right pick lol.
May have to try those
They're the same feel as a regular Jazz III except they have a little notch in the base so they almost look like a heart lol
Lol may have to have one just to have it purple you say
Yeah man I recommend it. Matches my Blueberry burst Les Paul lol
How long you been playing??
Since... 1996? ish?
Damn ok 92 for me
Do you play in a band now??
No unfortunately I work out of town more than I'm home these day. I played bass in a country band for years and probably learned the most theory doing that, until I dug into really working on stuff during covid. I'm a very intermediate player lol.
God that looks obnoxious lol
Their spring loaded thumb picks are fantastic. Fastest way ive been able to get my students to hold a pick properly.
This is like something out of the South Park version of Canada.
With it being symmetrical, I'd just be playing pick roulette constantly.
Why did they need to make it out of three separate pieces of plastic?
this look like some shark tank type shit 🤣
Only a Canadian would think that is cool.
In this thread are a ton of people who hate a product they have never seen before now
I bought their ring slide a while back. It's really weird, but it pairs well with an e-bow. They make interesting stuff.
With the little spring thing in it?
That's the one
Nice earrings!
Too many tips.
bro check out Attak picks, they’re white and have a aggressive look, but each side gives a different sound, kinda looks like a jazz pick but bigger, has a rounded edge, game changers as fuck
Um
I can see why you’d like the novelty of it. But the picks don’t exactly scream efficiency. I think I’d find them burdensome, but here’s to trying new things! 🍻
You’re out $15 😂
So cool to see a Canadian made product on my timeline, omg! It’s hard to find anything Canadian around here, and on the rare times that I do, the markups are quite high.

Could I ask where did you get them?
I found them. It's 20 bucks from Amazon..... Beat this price
Who ever made these didn't stop to think just coz u can do something don't mean u should do it
I've just been buying the same yellow dunlops for 20+ years
Did you buy a shake weight too?
EBay took my money
That's actually a pretty cool idea.
I use Dragonheart picks, which are pretty similar, just without the different thicknesses
I’d still lose it
Why?
Looks about the same size and shape of the Clayton picks I've been using for over 30 years... I'd try it.
Cursed pick
is the fun, endless?
Idk I'd totally use that. Probably not all the time but it looks like fun
I’ve had these for about a year. I really really like the feel and tone of the red tip, but I hate the rest of the pick, so I never ever use it.
A junk equipment. A funny present for kids, or just a joke.
Looks like the everlasting gobstopper from Willy Wonka.
I thought these were earrings at first. Maybe I'd buy them to add to my weird pick collection. I can't imagine them being super comfortable to play with.
‘3 tips endless fun’ eh?
reminds me of fidget spinners 😂
3 tips you say? Giggity
Gimmicky af
Well at least you can always make more money
No…this is not the way
🤣😂🤣😂
Just use your fingers .
Sorry, a useless toy for anyone serious about playing guitar, mandolin, banjo or other Western, plucked, stringed instrument! I miss match picks when I was a teen they had basically a book of 6 picks almost like a book of matches
saw bernth try this. he said it was pretty nice.
Gross
The dumbest thing I’ve ever saw
