IMHO, teles are the the utility player of music, they are good for all types of music, light, and fun to play…

All guitars are good for all genres, generally. People try different guitars and a number of those people land on the Telecaster as their favorite, just like anything else. Add in the hype around it being among the oldest electric guitar designs and there you go.

They're not just great for country. Teles are just great. The Tele's twangy tone lives in a band of frequencies that works wonderfully live and in the studio for cutting through a mix. I gravitate towards heavier genres of music and when I track guitars, I'll use a dual hum bucking guitar like a LP for the fat tone, but I'll double the track with a Tele because it adds fatness without adding muddiness due to the fact there's very little overlap in frequencies. Also, Tele's are super easy playing. They have a narrower string spacing than a Strat or LP which can be easier on the hands. edit: typos

Teles are a lot like SGs, they are very basic, versatile machines and they've been around forever so people have just found a billion different ways to use them.

I have one. I like it because it is simple. When you only have two pickups and two knobs it pushes you to get the Tone you want. I also like the body.
