They just don't know how good they have it. I've been in the hobby over 20 years and seen how far it's come. Now things are great imo and Reddit is into new kits only until the next release
Right? When I first built the RG RX-78-2 Gundam, I was amazed by how good the experience was. And then I stopped building for 11 years, and now it's considered a "bad" kit.
The year of release is always somewhere on the box, generally HGs got it in the lower left corner. Each of the runners also has it's year on the label. It's not always 100% accurate on the runners since release schedules can change after the tooling was made but even then it's never off buy much.
In this case here, the HG The O really is from 2002.
If it's the MG its just... eh. It doesn't pose good, not fun to build, was released when it was already out of date in terms of engineering and it comes with 2 beam sabers instead of 4.
All good points. Adding some reference:
2013 MG Sazabi Ver Ka : 9000 Yen MSRP
2010 MG The O: *12000* Yen MSRP
Sazabi has almost *200* more parts, and is actually part separated. MG The O still needs color correction.
One of my favorites just because of looks, it’s very simple(i’m basing this of the hg btw). There are some red plastic bits to represent wires and they fall off a lot, but they are really easy to replac. 7/10
The thrusters can move pretty much any angle and hold it, has pretty beefy joint peg. And of course the normal arms move a bit, and the 2 sub arms under the front skirt armor. Other then that, it's a brick.
Yup, The-O had a time where Bandai printed too much of them that they literally lowered the price when they were selling the kit. Unfortunately time passes by and the MG is now rare to get.
I bought this as my first attempt at air brushing / painting because it's a large pallet with ease of assembly and it was actually pretty great for that purpose so I've got a soft spot for this model since I spent so much time with it.
If you like bulky ud love this, yes its a simple build and quick to put together. But its big, bulky and would be easy to paint. The yellow is a very pale color so painting is advised.
I love mine, but im partial to big bulky kits.
Those are some ARMS, they are beefy. So bizarrely matched with such a delicate/fancy head.
The colour may be a bit nauseous, but this has some amazing feature
Honestly, the size of this kit makes it perfect for some narly custom job, also some of those parts might be really useful for some amazing proportion bending kitbashing
Currently on my backlog, this would be my next build! Just waiting for decals and so on to begin with the fun!! Can't wait to get my hands on this chonker
Honestly felt the same, but then i realized it was a big, chunky yellow boy. First attempt at scribing and painting and now i love him! Not the perfect job but got me trying something that i was scared of. Perfect blank canvas and weirdly positioned t rex arms lol
The kit looks tidy, it's clean! I'm assuming it's snapped and lined up (not painted).
I've always felt the O was more of a companion kit, you know, to ensure the fans have more ways to part with their money and allow them to just have a set of Zeta Kits.
I've always felt Bandai could do the kit some justice and have a Revive style version, but I honestly don't feel that overall, the audience is there, shame really.
Considering it was HGUC #36, it's pretty good. It's novel just due to the bulk. The free-floating ankle pipes can suck a fat one, though. They don't seat to literally *anything* and fall out if you glance at it wrong.
Also it has some of *the* most shallow panel lines I've ever had to deal with. Looks fine at a distance, but up close it's a bit rough. I'd greatly recommend re-scribing them all if you have the right tools.
Still, some decals (apparently HG decals exist but they weren't in stock when I got mine, so I just grabbed some of the MG's and rolled with it) really pretties it up and breaks up the sea of yellow. Since I'll likely never get the MG (even if it was reprinted, it's outside of my price range these days) it's about as good as I'm gonna get, so I'm happy with it!

Because its a timeless masterpiece
Completed this a while back, arguably one of my most favourite builds.

Don't worry I was confused too when I thought I got big o but instead got THE o lol there's someone out here living my best life with a SD O, the o, and big o!
P.s. you're not posing it right if you don't have pp swords out lol
This was top tier twenty years ago. For the newer builders here; go take a look at the No-Grade 1/144 scale Gundam Wing kits from like ‘95 era? They were so bad. Some kits I swear were only molded with two colors sometimes. I remember building the Epyon as my first kit and the entire face/muzzle was a sticker. So for this guy, I honestly was amazed at the level of surface detail in the vents and what not for how old it is. Also the camera eye is color separated from the rest of the face. That was pretty wild for then too. Sure there’s some color correction to do here but it’s minor compared to what I grew up with. And hey, the leg pipes don’t stay put but at least they were color separated 🤷🏻♂️
He’s still an 8/10 in my book.
Because he’s very thick.
Tempted to buy this kit based on how it looks. Is it a tricky build?
It is not a tricky build, but sometimes the pipes near the ankles like to pop out. Fantastic suit from a fantastic series, though!!!
I was impressed for about 10 seconds because the piping moved and gave the model some much needed motion …and then the pipes fell out
I accidentally threw mine across the room... Pipes were the only thing that fell off
I don’t know how to describe it but it was kinda boring build I guess? Just kinda a mid gundam experience. Not good. Not bad.
My thoughts exactly. It was such a nothing build. It is the only build in my catalouge I can't recommend.
Considering the age that's still decent enough imho. Like, that thing is 22 years old now, could be worse.
It wasn't even a good kit when it came out and it's pricy.
It’s like 35 at much, but yeah it’s very floppy with no base 3mm hole and the legs fly everywhere if air touch them.
Holy cow, i didn't realize it's that old. I know Gundam's been around for a while but man, that's older than my oldest niece.
Gundam has been around since like 79. I’m mid-thirties and people own kits older than me :P
I'm late 30's and have a kit from the year I was born. (Bought 3-4 years ago)
Question is this the hg
Yeah
I always wanted one I have it now but haven't built it yet thinking of using it for a kitbash
Not hard to build. It’s a decent HG that mostly hinges on how much you like The O’s design.
If it's the MG its just... eh. It doesn't pose good, not fun to build, was released when it was already out of date in terms of engineering and it comes with 2 beam sabers instead of 4.
All good points. Adding some reference: 2013 MG Sazabi Ver Ka : 9000 Yen MSRP 2010 MG The O: *12000* Yen MSRP Sazabi has almost *200* more parts, and is actually part separated. MG The O still needs color correction.
The O is a kit that had been shelved for years until it could finally be produced. It's really an early 2000s-late 90s build.
This thiccc bitch is worth it https://preview.redd.it/4d5kz9ahng2d1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=d1bc9ed90dd3fe9488d58938a4e3eff3f385449b
Love how you hang your runners. Totally stealing this

I kinda feel that way about my HG nightingale lol, it's beautiful and ugly at the same time
It cool looking but does anything other than the arm move on the nightingale? Like the O, it looks like the legs can't even move
The Nightingale even needs two action base 5 just to prop it up for flying poses
Daaaammn. I have always wanted a Hi Streamer Nu Gundam but it would probably be similarly unwiedly
The-O's legs actually more fairly decently for its size
The thrusters can move pretty much any angle and hold it, has pretty beefy joint peg. And of course the normal arms move a bit, and the 2 sub arms under the front skirt armor. Other then that, it's a brick.
Because it's a beautiful bit of chonk. I'd love an MG of this lad.
There WAS an MG, it’s just never been reprinted afaik.
Yup, The-O had a time where Bandai printed too much of them that they literally lowered the price when they were selling the kit. Unfortunately time passes by and the MG is now rare to get.
My Grail kit actually, it was in my local hobby store growing up before I was really into gunpla.
It’s had reprints, including a few Gundam Base reprints during the pandemic. It’s just not very popular. The last retail reprint was in 2018.
It's up there on my bucket list. Right alongside the purple MG Qubeley Mk-II and RG Johnny Ridden's Zaku. Bandai hates reprinting the damn things...
because you prefer the **bad guys** mobile suits because they're evil and do anything to win 😈
Can have him hold your zyn for you
The-O!! Naze Ugokan!!! -incoming watermelon slice)
Oof
Build sesh zyns hell yeah brother
My thoughts exactly. Except who pops the coffee ones on the regular?
Curious about the coffee. I normally do citrus because it tastes like fruit loops!
Me. Coffee supremacy.
Wait until you get into the Swedish snus/nic pouch world. Shit will break your brain compared to Zyn :)
Because we crave big banana. Reject new type. Return to monke.
Play the anime ja nai evolution scene in reverse
Scirocco was a newtype though
Colonel Mustard has got me cracking up 🤣🤣🤣.
Cuz what other gunpla holds two beam rifles with their crotch arms?
#T H E O
I bought this as my first attempt at air brushing / painting because it's a large pallet with ease of assembly and it was actually pretty great for that purpose so I've got a soft spot for this model since I spent so much time with it.
COLONEL MUSTARD 😭
Because we all need to have a big o every once in a while.
This was my first Gunpla and either it was a really long time ago or the build felt very long
You were curious about jaundice?
Cuz the name pronounced as "Dio"
because of it's historical significance..? partially responsible for concussing an autistic kid ya know
Gotta love a thick mobile suit
I think preshading would significantly help this kit.
Because the MG version is too expensive?
He dumb and hilarious
juggernaut , that is agile asf
Bro because how could you not add the banana bunch to your collection!!
Either you like the show or you were gonna custom paint or experiment water decals or stickers.
mg the o is elusive as hell for me such a cool design with lots of space for customisation also big humongous even
I hope you find it and pray it’s better than the HG
It's not, that is why the MG flopped and it could be bought on super discount.
You subconsciously wanted to try out more customization options for your Gunpla
I remember this kit being a good change of pace. Boring kit, but also just something to chill and build.
I like it, it's fat.
Kitbash with GP02A or Kshatriya, for maximum thickness.
If you like bulky ud love this, yes its a simple build and quick to put together. But its big, bulky and would be easy to paint. The yellow is a very pale color so painting is advised. I love mine, but im partial to big bulky kits.
Does Mr mustard go upper decker or lower decker
change up. start low and go high.
The black airforces equivalent
Because it was show time.
Those are some ARMS, they are beefy. So bizarrely matched with such a delicate/fancy head. The colour may be a bit nauseous, but this has some amazing feature
It's a chonky boi and I want it
For the thrill of O-wning it
ALLMIGHTY O
Because you needed something to ram a Zeta through?
At least you didn’t go through the trouble of painting all the black vents green to colour correct like i did
I would have if I wasn’t rushing to finish it tbh
Oooh, banana!
Maybe you are hungry, in our country’s Gundam circle, The-O is also known as Little Potato
No reason unless you like it. This is valid for every kit, but especially for old ones like this
The extra crotch arms in the design? It is a suit that takes advantage of fighting in space that way.
its hefty, its majestic, hefty gundams numba wan
Cause its amazing ?
Chonk
Cuz its great, why would you not want the O
Yep, same thoughts. It's alright, I Guess....
It has that "O" factor.
Honestly, the size of this kit makes it perfect for some narly custom job, also some of those parts might be really useful for some amazing proportion bending kitbashing
For the Chonk
Don’t talk shit about The-O!
Because funny
Tbh This one of the best build I’ve made.
B I G
Because the O is our one true savior
Now give him the Zyn
I just built this one last month. It was my first experience with panel lining. I liked it, and the crotch hands are a big plus for me.
Damn. Look at that chunky lad.
Bc he's absolutely sick??? My brother has him too!
Because it looks awesome!
It was the zyn convincing you, lol
Because The-O is O-mazing
Ol banana head ass boy 🍌
Thick banana, that’s why
Because he CHONK.
Cuz CHONK
Wow, one of my favorites, if I'm being honest! I put a bunch of weird stickers on mine!
Crotch swords, obvs.
Nice to know I'm not the only one abusing Zyns while building
You are seen, my friend. This is a safe space.
This is a cool kit
It's one of the greatest is why
Based zynuccino moment
Because it’s a freakin chonky boy
Cuz he’s so cool
Don't be mean to Theo
He's gonna getcha with his little arms too.
Mmmm zyn
Because you ordered a The Big O kit, but there was as a mix up?
Currently on my backlog, this would be my next build! Just waiting for decals and so on to begin with the fun!! Can't wait to get my hands on this chonker
Your love for big girls manifested in plastic form
Do you have the Zeta to reproduce the scene?
Money better spent than the dip pouches behind it lol.
Honestly felt the same, but then i realized it was a big, chunky yellow boy. First attempt at scribing and painting and now i love him! Not the perfect job but got me trying something that i was scared of. Perfect blank canvas and weirdly positioned t rex arms lol
Because he is awesome. Period.
The kit looks tidy, it's clean! I'm assuming it's snapped and lined up (not painted). I've always felt Bandai could do the kit some justice and have a Revive style version, but I honestly don't feel that overall, the audience is there, shame really.
I love this kit
Chonkers
It really was a bold move for them to make a kit in sunbaked plastic yellow
O!
Coz it was all Yellow!
Zyn included?
Considering it was HGUC #36, it's pretty good. It's novel just due to the bulk. The free-floating ankle pipes can suck a fat one, though. this is my inspiration to scribe this kit.
Cuz you like The O? Idk I could think of a lot of reasons. I know id buy it lol
Because baby’s got back
It a mandatory purchase everyone has one but no one knows why or you just like the O
Completed this a while back, arguably one of my most favourite builds. https://preview.redd.it/ydzyuvrzdh2d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2dacb6af23ed503d40cef0fb14d555f8d2a1840c
Big boi
He’s unique
I want to pre shade mine so bad. Backlogged
It makes a great canvas for custom detailing/painting. I drilled holes and put bolts in the big armor plates.
Why? For the glory of Neo Zeon of course!
Don't worry I was confused too when I thought I got big o but instead got THE o lol there's someone out here living my best life with a SD O, the o, and big o! P.s. you're not posing it right if you don't have pp swords out lol
To put him in a sumo stance and paint his head like a traffic cone.
Because it a thick boy
Cause it looks sick

If you watched the show and appreciate it, rhen it is a must buy.
You got it because you're a masochist
Zynsanity
Because you like them big, you like them chunky
