I have to wonder what UGA has to be thinking after firing CKC yesterday and today, seeing Jay Clark, the coach that they fired so many years ago, and which set off the string of events that led to CKC, win a championship with another SEC team.
I can tell you what I’m thinking as a UGA alum and long time gymdog fan….Good for Jay and congrats to LSU. Greg McGarity was a fool who knew nothing about gymnastics. Jay simply wasn’t given enough time at Georgia.
I agree! In my opinion, it shows he just needed good mentoring to be a good head coach. I think Georgia and Suzanne did not have the foresight to develop a new head coach. So anyone who took over that position like he did would have been in a bad spot. I think it shows in how the 2 subsequent coaches at Georiga (Durante and CKC) were let go, unable to improve the team either.
I admit I had to look up what kind of creature a Nittany Lion was (spoiler alert: the subtype of Eastern Cougar that used to live on a mountain next to Penn State).
However, all teams may only be called "Tigers" during the meet, for maximum ~~chaos~~ entertainment: "For the third rotation, the tigers will rotate to vault, the tigers will be on bars, the tigers will go to beam and the tigers will compete on floor."
We don't have to call it "Go Tigers." We can call it "Best of Tigers" like the Best of Utah meet.
Just that when people shout in the stands, "Go Tigers!", you won't be sure who they're cheering for.
They were the best team at the meet today - and that beam rotation -> under that pressure -> and especially after that fall? Super impressive. Ice in their veins!
(And can we just again notice how much confidence and eased anxiety Konnor has gained in NCAA/ at LSU? The same athlete who used to puke in her coach's hands before going up on beam -> comes up 1st after that fall, with the title on the line - and gets a 9.9625 !
\*edit - that equals the BB EF champion score from Thursday
Yes! I’ve loved watching Konnor thrive at LSU this year.
And LSU really stood up to the high pressure and on beam of all events! Even Sav with that fall, she fought so hard for the save. They really wanted it and they got it!
With all seniors/grad students leaving they lose 10 routines.
Livvy & Elena have stated this is their last year. Haleigh did say early on she wouldn't be back for a 5th year because her body is done (she then said she'd decide after season & I imagine winning the Natty may be the end she wanted).
Jillian & Sav just used their 6th years. Cammy & Alyona didn't compete their 5th years so they're eligible for one last one (which I suspect at least Alyona will take).
I believe Sierra has another year even though she's a grad this year - she finished her degree in 3.
No idea on 5th years yet but Savannah is 100 percent done as she’s out of eligibility. Kiya could technically take a 6th year if she wanted ala Marz. Haleigh, Sierra, Livvy, Chase, Elena are true seniors so could theoretically take COVID years. And then I’m not sure what the status of the other 5th years or transfers are that didn’t actually compete like Alyona, Jillian and Cammie but I don’t think either Jillian or Cammie were actually hurt enough to redshirt so probably done as well.
I kinda suspect less will take 5th years because they just won. But we shall see.
Just wanted to add that eMjae Frazier tied Haleigh Bryant to win the AA tonight! I know AA doesn't actually mean anything at this meet, but still very cool and very happy for her!
WELL. FUCKING. DESERVED. That final beam routine from Finnegan was magical. I don't care if anyone says they were overscored- if anyone was overscored, it was Utah. Ridiculous on floor and Rutger/McCalum's vaults were far from 9.90s. This LSU team has heart, Cal finished second (SO WELL DESERVED) and florida overcame a difficult season to make it to the finals. Only thing that could've been better was Utah getting last.
We can always criticize the scores, but in this case, the rankings are correct imo. LSU brought it. For a while it looked like Utah might win, and I must thank LSU for not letting that happen!!!
Agree - the scores were wonky on floor, but more accurate scoring wouldn’t have changed the final ranking. They had enough of a margin by the end that Aleah just needed to stay on and get a 9.6ish, but then she decided to go all out :)
Happy to have a new team name in the very short list of teams that have won a national championship.
Wondering how it would affect Livvy Dunne's marketability, even though she didn't actually go on the floor in the final.
Multiple news outlets have the headline of “Livvy Dunne and her LSU teammates win national title” despite the fact that she didn’t actually compete today.
Do we know if Livvy is taking a 5th year? I don’t follow her on social media but I’d think being an LSU gymnast contributes to her fame quite a bit. She doesn’t necessarily need to stay to keep making money though
I was pulling for Florida but I’m thrilled for LSU, when Aleah landed her beam dismount I cried with her
So proud of them after finishing 4th last year and all that adversity to come exploding back next season is just incredible
So deserved today! Even with crack scoring, they were the best team on the floor tonight. I’m always proud of any SEC team that wins a national championship and I’m proud of LSU for finally getting one after being so close so many times!
I’m just so damn happy for this team. They were the best on the floor last night. Great meet that was exciting til the end. And I’m also glad Cal came out ahead of Utah. Speaking of which, I loved seeing Cammy and Jillian thrive in their last year and end on a high note - and all the more sweet to see them do it on a team that bested Utah for the title (but I’m petty that way).
I’ve seen a couple people mention Utah in negative light in this thread but haven’t really followed the gymnastics scene. Is there a reason for the Utah hate or just normal competitiveness?
The Tom Farden situation, and then some current team members being pretty nasty to/about survivors, or going out of their way to sing Tom's praises on socials.

ik this meet happened yesterday but id love to know why it took til halfway through leanne’s routine to start showing it??😭😭 also olivia dunne acting like she competed for this trophy is so funny💀
These Livvy comments are so gross. She competed well all season, allowing some of their superstars opportunity to rest as needed; She competed in the regional finals that GOT THEM to nationals; She was warmed up and ready to go during FOTF; folks who don’t make lineups are a part of the team and working out just as hard as lineup regulars.
Do better.

As an lsu alum may I just say thanks

no that's OK I'll thank the athletes instead byee

Also, who do we write to in the NCAA powers that be to arrange a Go Tigers marquee meet that is a quad meet between LSU, Auburn, Mizzou, and Clemson?
every team must be required to wear that tiger striped Clemson leo in their respective colors.
Love that idea!
Wait this slaps!!!
Once upon a time there was the “Cat Classic”… late 80s I believe. A quad meet but not just tigers; I remember Penn State being in it.
I'm into it
Omg yes PLEASE!
LSU spells it differently, so they're out.
I think I’ve been on the internet for too long today because the way I STARED at this trying to figure out how LSU spells “tigers” differently …..
We don't have to call it "Go Tigers." We can call it "Best of Tigers" like the Best of Utah meet. Just that when people shout in the stands, "Go Tigers!", you won't be sure who they're cheering for.
The Tiger Classic
*Geaux Tigers
you have to know that is already happening
You're serious? It will happen next season??
No I have no idea what I'm talking about sorry Just saying this must have been discussed already for several sports
Can we finally stop talking about the "white leo curse" pls

Ah I’m so proud of Konnor! She’s looked steady and it’s so impressive knowing everything that she’s been through the past few years
Sooo happy to see Konnor thrive and more relaxed
She used to puke before going on beam?!
When she was still at her original long time gym in WV, yes.
Yeah. Her original elite coach just thought this was fine for some reason. It "got her nerves out" 🙄
Valeri isn't better, TBH.
And they are getting Kaliya Lincoln, Lexi Zeiss, Zoe Miller, and Kailin Chio next year!
Are they even losing many routines this year? There’s so many seniors on that team that I’m not sure who has another year left (and is taking it)
With all seniors/grad students leaving they lose 10 routines. Livvy & Elena have stated this is their last year. From previous posts, I think Elena's injury was career ending? And if I was Haleigh, I'd go out on top. 😂
Livvy has repeatedly said this is her last year?
Oh I can't wait for Kaliya Lincoln in college
Holy shit. Ok. That gets a “geaux” from me.
Forever LSU https://preview.redd.it/xzjiryoonpvc1.jpeg?width=1710&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ccd6ff74d8e2fbe0def1f66a55d306a927fda104
This is the best photo ever!
Just wanted to add that eMjae Frazier tied Haleigh Bryant to win the AA tonight! I know AA doesn't actually mean anything at this meet, but still very cool and very happy for her!
aleah finnegan. so many doubted her as anchor!!!! THRILLED!!!
She hasn’t been as crisp on beam this season but I’m glad she was able to come through with that gorgeous routine when it counted!
She had absolute ice in her veins. I was ready to puke and she got up there and did the routine of her life. Unreal! Incredible!
WELL. FUCKING. DESERVED. That final beam routine from Finnegan was magical. I don't care if anyone says they were overscored- if anyone was overscored, it was Utah. yeah, you’re right (says through gritted teeth 😂)

I don't think it matters at all that she didn't compete in the final - her fame has never really been tied to her gymnastics performance
yep, people will be commenting "livvy better" on social media posts regardless
Multiple news outlets have the headline of “Livvy Dunne and her LSU teammates win national title” despite the fact that she didn’t actually compete today.
Barst**l? Just ignore them
Huffington Post, Fox, New York Post and Daily Mail. Not all great, but not just Barstool.
🤡
Only eight teams ever have won the NCAA Gymnastics Championship. They are UCLA, Utah, Alabama, Oklahoma, Georgia, Florida, LSU, and Michigan.
woah, the Big Four that stood from 1997 to 2013, has doubled.
Do we know if Livvy is taking a 5th year? I don’t follow her on social media but I’d think being an LSU gymnast contributes to her fame quite a bit. She doesn’t necessarily need to stay to keep making money though
She has indicated that she is not.
She’s stated that she isn’t (I know people do this and change their minds) but I honestly think she’s going to do the MLB gf/influencer route
I hope she doesn’t. She’s had a lot of injuries and she seems really banged up.
I think it’s gonna increase Aleah’s NIL like crazy especially with her going to the olympics
So happy for this team! Savannah's save attempt on beam was impressive. I'm so glad Aleah pulled through with a high score!
It was impressive, but wish her final ever routine was a hit. Doubt she’s thinking too hard about it right now though!
That beam rotation was insane. Absolutely clutch performances under that pressure. So happy for LSU.
I was pulling for Florida but I’m thrilled for LSU, when Aleah landed her beam dismount I cried with her So proud of them after finishing 4th last year and all that adversity to come exploding back next season is just incredible
Geaux Tigers!!! 💜💛
GEAUX TIGERS!!
So happy for LSU. The best team won with lots of stellar performances.
Geaux Tigers!

Utah has done their part to inspire a lot of pettiness
I was just so damn happy to see OU out of it.
I don't follow NCAA at all but was surprised to see them not even in the meet - what happened?
They imploded on vault in semis!
Multiple falls on vault and beam in the semifinals
CGN’s story if you want the full deets: [https://collegegymnews.com/2024/04/20/2024-postseason-chaos-continues-as-top-seed-oklahoma-upset-in-semifinal-round/](https://collegegymnews.com/2024/04/20/2024-postseason-chaos-continues-as-top-seed-oklahoma-upset-in-semifinal-round/)
Omg same. Going into the semis I was rooting for cal, Florida, and anyone except OU.
Congrats!
My mom is so happy lol
Congrats LSU, well deserved. Aleah’s beam routine gave me all the feels and Haleigh Bryant is such a superstar
ik this meet happened yesterday but id love to know why it took til halfway through leanne’s routine to start showing it??😭😭 also olivia dunne acting like she competed for this trophy is so funny💀
