Thanks for the chapter! I'm a bit sad we didn't get a reaction along the lines of 'you defeated how many omni-union ships with only one loss!?', maybe next time.

itsdirector

I was going to, but then opsec came to mind. The rule of thumb is to be vague when discussing an ongoing conflict with a potential enemy. Honestly, I was probably overthinking it :/ my bad.

[deleted]

Nah, the line would have been unbecoming of someone of her stature

Nerdn1

Talking about your own forces, sources of intel, and operations is something to be cautious about. Revealing the capabilities of a shared enemy is different. The only time you want to be tight-lipped then is to conceal the extent of your intelligence operations. How many ships the enemy sent to attack you when your ally even participated in the fighting makes little sense. The Lowelana will be able to give a reasonably accurate number of how many hostile were in the battle and the number of destroyed ships. I suppose if they detected some cloaked ships, the US might omit them from the report to conceal their sensor capabilities should the report leak to the enemy. Revealing the vast scale of the attack gives important strategic information for fighting the OU without damaging security of the US. If anything it tells the aliens "don't fuck with the US". Now that I think about it, U.S. losses is probably a more important secret than enemy losses, though even that isn't particularly dangerous and in this case it makes them look good (granted only clamming up when you have bad news is a dead give-away).

itsdirector

Well, what popped into my head is that if the Republic WERE an enemy of the US and found out the US wiped out more than 500 ships with less than 80 of their own, they would avoid a direct confrontation with the US and go with subversive damage instead. The US is no slouch when it comes to subversion, but they've got better odds in a full on fight than they do in a backstabbing match. Fun fact: During Operation Iraqi Freedom several top commanders within the United States Army, Marine Corps, and Navy suggested keeping a lid on enemy casualty counts. Bush ordered them to be tallied and released despite this, for morale purposes, which resulted in China rewriting their war doctrine overnight. The suggested informational release was that the United States broke the morale of the Iraqi army and they routed with minimal casualties on both sides, which is what was originally reported. If that story had stuck, then China wouldn't have rewritten their war doctrine to be more competitive with the US (as evidenced by the fact that they didn't until they saw the casualty counts). As I said... I overthought it lol

emphes

I wouldn't say that, they're still pretty early in their negotiations. It's entirely reasonable that Humanity want to keep their secrets at the moment, and I'm sure they'll have the opportunity to impress when they start working on combined operations.

DraconRegina

Fuck yeah this guy understands opsec

itsdirector

Here ya go, a little early for the same ol' reason. Now time to spend ten minutes updating the previous post cuz formatting lol Have a good rest of your whatever!

SpankyMcSpanster

Greetings.

itsdirector

Hello!

Hiya!

MajorPay3563

Hello there!

itsdirector

Gutentag!

ArchonAries

Nice little bit of diplomacy. Looks like corporations still screw with diplomacy.

itsdirector

Especially the Crayola Megacorp.

JamowBeck

Oh yeah. Those folks can color any type legislation and/or litigation any color they want.

StarSilverNEO

Director 3’s chair is a weapon of war in of itself, don’t let it fool you Heh, well it seems for now the Republic has wiped its hands clean, but I still find them sus until further proven innocent. Man, what is it with the Gont and tryin to revolutionize smh

itsdirector

You'll find out in... \*checks storyboard\* Chapter 30! Although there's a lot planned for that chapter so it might be glazed over a bit and fully revealed by 32 or 33, along with the details of the nanite plague.

StarSilverNEO

Interesting, cant wait til then!

[deleted]

Seems like the hidden information might be the forced quantine of that species

Flavihok

Damn galactic intercomunication and (still?) Using .txt for diplomatic docs? Ok lmao. Great work worldshmith!

Ag47_Silver

Sort of makes sense to use the absolutely most stripped down version during first contact with alien species. Txt is as close to raw text as we get, which means a heck of a lot less chance to mess up because of protocols and formatting and fonts and stuff. Then it's super easy for recipient to make the text more readable in their preferred way.

itsdirector

Correct! But also if you'll recall the author's note at the beginning of CH1, everything is translated into humanese lol most people are familiar with .txt and what it does.

the_codewarrior

My question then is how are they annotating their signature metadata. A text file would have to have some sort of header, to store that data. I suppose that’s probably how they would do it, have metadata alongside the text. That way the text is still readable even if you need tools to interpret the signatures.

medical-Pouch

I don’t know why but I’m kinda chuckling at the thought of D3 pulling something similar if he gets stationed as the diplomatic envoy of sorts for the US until either an expansion happens, or they can somehow find a neutral party that all of the races find acceptable. And D3 just kinda never appears to leave the office assigned to him.

Different-Money6102

I've enjoyed this so far. Slight grammatical suggestion. Replace "glaze" with "gloss". We aren't talking pottery here.

Me likey. I do miss the simpler interactions.

Ace3152

Nice.

knightaries

A yone else notice when ambassador Ulooni sent a message requesting official statement about xenocidal tendencies the message she got back was about xenophobic tendencies. OP glitch or ominous foreshadowing? 🤔

itsdirector

Das my bad. It was supposed to be xenocidal not xenophobic lol Fixed

knightaries

Well, damn, here I had hope you'd use it. 🤣

scottybug

When it says “We’re dealing with three other species as well, and a fourth one that is being uplifted” is the fourth species referring to AI, or was there a species mentioned in an earlier chapter that I am forgetting?

itsdirector

It was, in the original version of chapter 3. I removed it before posting for various reasons, but it remained in my mind I guess lol That's what I get for not checking my notes. Good catch, fixed!

Evie_the_Wolf

Just found this about an hour ago...need more asap! Lol.

Echoeversky

Humans take glazing literally.

Devestator-Rogue-v-2

Director 3 is like that villain that introduces himself to the Protags once they enter his room "Ive been expecting you" 😂👌

Nyxelestia

> Unless it were something unforgivable such as xenocide. Further making me suspect that the OU will turn out to be human in origin, somehow.
