Made a fun game to take Marshall and Lily's mind off of the slanted floors in their apartment, telling Lily to be honest with Marshall about her debt and taking her to the group, making sure Lily knows she's the opposite of lame in Whooo! episode. Just smaller things that add up to her not being as horrible as everyone makes her out to be.
This. Plus she totally could have said something like "they offered it to me first, you're just a second choice" but she didn't. She let him go, let him live the dream he dreamt about for years, she let him be under the spotlight, like he wanted.
She knew how important it was for him. That's why she wasn't petty when she clearly would have been
Sure, Ted is her friend and she values his advice etc etc. But she was in a relationship with Don. Living with Don. Working with who? Oh yeah, Don. If anyone deserved to be included in those conversations it was Don.
Yeah this is probably the best thing.
Everything else mentioned here directly impacts her or is for her sake.
This is completely altruistic and done simply because she cares about her friend.
I will go first teaching bunch of Canadian children math and the power of friendship by playing in kids show that can not in any circumstances be mistaken for porn

When she sends him to get ice and he goes to laser tag and he gets handcuffed in the security office and she goes and gets him but it’s all a ruse and the walls come off the office and I’m just now realising this was barneys prank on robin so nvm 😅
Yes, Robin the GOAT. At Ted's wedding. She said should she ever changes her mind about marriage, it would have been nice to know if Ted waited for her. How ridiculously selfish!!!
That wasn't all she said and like she said, it hadn't been that long since they broke up from a year long relationship. I thought the speech was pretty spot on with everything (ok, she could have left out the exact sentence you are talking about.)
I thought so too. The first time at least. At the end of the show, I hated Robin for being exceedingly selfish throughout. So, naturally the next time I watched the entire show critically. And this is the worst bit that I've uncovered:
They break up in S2 due to difference in opinion re marriage.
Robin moves to Argentina, and comes back with Gael in S3.
Robin moves to Japan for her career in S3/4 when Ted is getting engaged/involved with Stella.
Robin gets the invitation to Ted's wedding in S4, but how ridiculous of her to expect that Ted would always keep waiting as she said? As if she's entitled to move on with her life, and she expects that Ted would always be waiting for her so that she could grab a consolation prize if all fails.
That was outrageous.
Im finding it hard to really think because i dont normally focus on robin alot. I'd say actually having the kids talk to her partners early on enough, mentioned it to ted before even a relationship and barney knew from the beginning. Too many shows have their characters not talk about where they stand with kids
Yeah, making sure that Kevin knew she didn’t mean just that she couldn’t have kids, but also that she WOULDNT have kids, and really making him realize that he would never have them with her, even though she did love him and want to be with him.
I think this is a really great point about Robin. People label her as selfish, but I don’t really read her that way. I love that she’s independent, knows what she wants, stays focused on her goals, and is always very forthright and open/honest about what she wants. She doesn’t manipulate people, or lie to people, or try to charm them by putting on a front, or flip flop / sell herself out to keep a man etc. She’s just unapologetically herself. And in lots of small ways on a regular basis, she shows up for her friends. She also had many opportunities to toy with Ted, or string him along, or push him to compromise his own goals and wants, but she never does that. She’s always very honest and direct.
Being the “brother” Marshall needed when he was trying to get over Lily’s move to San Fran. Taking him to the gun range to get his aggressions out was the best medicine for him at that time.
This is probably an unpopular opinion, but being honest with Kevin about not being able to have and not wanting children. That can be a huge dealbreaker, and it was brave of her to let him go because it wasn’t what she wanted.
She was about to tell him but Kevin stopped her. In his words : "Just because something needs to be told, doesn't mean it needs to be heard. We've all done bad things, doesn't mean we're bad people"
So, no. It wasn't a question of wether she had the balls to tell him or not.
Yeah, I always interpreted that line as him having a good guess at what happened, and making a decision on his own that he didn't need to have it confirmed if they were going to keep dating.
I sincerely doubt that he meant it that way. She should've told him regardless. Casually cheating on someone isn't something you just keep to yourself, your partner has the right to know!
I agree, and they has the right not to know if they don't want to. And he didn't want to know. So, no, she shouldn't have told him regardless.
He totally meant it that way, he's a therapist that worked with criminals. He totally meant "you don't have to tell me the bad things you did, I don't care about it".
He is a therapist, he was deeply in love with Robin, he knew what kind of information she wanted to share.
I'll give you summer teeth. Some are here, some are there🦷
I love that scene & laugh at it every time. Really wish Ted hadn’t broken up the fight. Barney punching the wall was justified🤜🚪
Showing Ted her weird hair after picking him up in Duchess County when Lily abandoned him to go to the interview in New Haven.
or kissing Lily at the prom.
or making a song out of the car alarm when they were waiting for the wedding dress sale.
I feel like Robin’s good deeds are all a lot more subtle, but there are so many — including these and lots of other little moments where she notices a friend in distress and finds a way to lift them up. I’m rewatching the episode right now where Lily is freaking out about their crooked apartment, and Robin turns it into a fun game. Instead of big grand Ted-like gestures, she’s just quietly there, supporting her friends in everyday ways. I kind of love that.
Having a cigarette ready for lily on her wedding day and being the Mary poppins of the group during marshals dad’s funeral and had all the essentials ready (ignore the fact she got that minor drunk).
I feel like beating up that one girl she had initially sent to ruin Barney's second chance with Nora...although granted that was a backpedaling of her being shitty....but still? She did successfully take it back.
Letting Patrice out of her pit in "The Final Page: Part One". She passes on the opportunity to fire her at the end-of-year review and that's really the only time she grows as a character
Robin did funny things, & good things. Great things? Not in my opinion. She was extremely self centred. Best thing she probably did was saying no to the job to be with Don.
When she got revenge on the snobs who bad-mouthed Barney's apartment.
Even though she disliked the apartment and wanted to sell it... Barney's honor mattered to her more!
Very selfless of her.
("The Fortress" - Season 8, Episode 19)
If Barney was going to jump because he had to give Brover back, she saved his life.
I'll still go with her telling Ted that she doesn't love him so that he can move on, though.
Robin didn’t have the best redeeming qualities. I’m watching it now and she’s really unlikable a lot of the times. The fact the she told Ted she’d never get married but married his whore best friend broke my heart.
The best thing she did? Probably the bachelor party for barney
I feel like convincing Victoria to stay with Ted instead of going to Germany at the time when she was totally infauated with Ted was huge. Yes, it gets slightly tarnished, since Robin wasn't always \*nice\* to Victoria, and did eventually (unintentionally) caused their breakup. Twice.
However, if you look at the isolated coversation at the bridal dress boutique, it wasn't just one of the most altruistic act performed by any character, but she actually had to disregard her own feelings to convince this girl to stay with the guy she was crushing on.
In my eyes, that takes the cake.
Didn't he take her to the Minnesota bar, she stole it, and only after did Marshall introduce her to the Canadian one?
Wow, I like Robin but this thread is a reality check haha
Robin hardly did any super good thing or sacrificed anything ever , the only thing i can remember is leaving the job at wwdc for Don which means she never actually did any sacrificial thing for the gang not even picking bar tabs 🥸
IMO it was risking his job to vouch for Brad and giving him a job at his firm even though he knew Brad was incompetent. He sacrificed the most in this situation, as he was the breadwinner and he and Lily were in an extremely bad situation financially. Not to mention, that job was really hard to find— I think it was the only one that not only paid well but also involved environmental law.
Yeah, other than Marshall and Lily, they were for sure the best couple of the show in S2. It really shows the relationship evolve... Like Robin telling Ted she loves him for the first time, getting to know each other's past and opening up completely to another person (how hard that can be), the decision to move in with each other or not, and then the amicable breakup which i don't necessarily agree that things like that should cause a breakup when you are just happy together. 🤷 They could have evolved together. Anyway, I know that would defeat the purpose of the show, but they were perfect for each other imo.
Robin is the most self centered character on any show I've ever watched. The only truly selfless thing I can think of is taking Lily to a shopaholics meeting
When the vacation Robin says to real Robin: "Don't you care about thinking about peace ?" That quote accurately describes about 95% of people I know IRL that I get annoyed with.
Idk why ppl only see the good things Lily did when it comes to her but only remember bad things about Robin.. she wasn't the best but she was nice
This ‼️
If the point is "what's the best thing" you can't just list multiple things.
It was a fun game... but had the potential to cause serious injury!
Saying no to job to be with Don
This. Plus she totally could have said something like "they offered it to me first, you're just a second choice" but she didn't. >That's why she wasn't petty when she clearly would have been Where's the poop, u/BiscuitNeige?
Honestly, she should have talked to Don about it instead of Ted when they offered it to her. Maybe Don would have moved with her... who knows.
Ted is her best frnd n her endgame in the show plus she knows he gives good advice
Sure, Ted is her friend and she values his advice etc etc. But she was in a relationship with Don. Living with Don. Working with who? Oh yeah, Don. If anyone deserved to be included in those conversations it was Don.
Ik.. but even he made a decision without asking her first.. so ig they weren't there in terms of relationship
Taking Lily to a shopaholics anonymous meeting and trying to get her help
This needs to be higher, what a great friend!
Yeah this is probably the best thing. Everything else mentioned here directly impacts her or is for her sake. This is completely altruistic and done simply because she cares about her friend.
I have watched HIMYM 10 times and I never noticed that Robin did this! 😳
It isn't given a lot of attention which I think is kinda sad
I will go first teaching bunch of Canadian children math and the power of friendship by playing in kids show that can not in any circumstances be mistaken for porn

They're twice as fun! Ask anyone!

Orchestrated the ideal bachelor party for Barney
Plus the ultimate prank wedding reception
I'm sorry which one r u talking about rn?

That's why I was confused 😂
Teaching the fandom about the courtship practices of Emperor Penguins.
They bow!!
Oh god, silly penguins acting all fancy!
Wait, what were we talking about?
They curtsy back and forth to each other before having sex..
Mister penguin 🙇♀️
Mrs. Penguin *curtsies*
When did this subreddit become this wholesome 😂
I love when Robin acts like a human being and shows emotions
That kind of disappears in the later seasons
They all get pretty Flanderized in the later seasons. Especially Barney
Told Ted she doesn't love him so he can finally move on
Before leading him to believe he had a shot
Yes, Robin the GOAT. At Ted's wedding. She said should she ever changes her mind about marriage, it would have been nice to know if Ted waited for her. How ridiculously selfish!!!
Robin is not the goat of the show
Lol, that was purely sarcastic.
My bad. I can I decipher sarcasm with a tone of voice lol
That wasn't all she said and like she said, it hadn't been that long since they broke up from a year long relationship. I thought the speech was pretty spot on with everything (ok, she could have left out the exact sentence you are talking about.)

Yeah the honesty part kinda falls flat here. She cheated on him and didn't even have the balls to tell him AFAIK.
She was about to tell him but Kevin stopped her. In his words : "Just because something needs to be told, doesn't mean it needs to be heard. We've all done bad things, doesn't mean we're bad people" So, no. It wasn't a question of wether she had the balls to tell him or not.

True. Consent extends to more than just sex
I think Robin don’t love Kevin she want be with him. Only because Barney was with Nora
That's just nonsense bro.. he was amazing n that's why she loved him
Kevin was weried and unethical he was her therapist and it was soo creepy
Ya but he was great it didn't feel weird for me coz he was cute n funny
I'll give you summer teeth. Some are here, some are there🦷 I love that scene & laugh at it every time. Really wish Ted hadn’t broken up the fight. Barney punching the wall was justified🤜🚪
One of the funniest quotes!
Giving up her dream job to be with Don
Showing Ted her weird hair after picking him up in Duchess County when Lily abandoned him to go to the interview in New Haven. or kissing Lily at the prom. or making a song out of the car alarm when they were waiting for the wedding dress sale.
Wow, I was looking for a proper answer to this question. I found it.
I feel like Robin’s good deeds are all a lot more subtle, but there are so many — including these and lots of other little moments where she notices a friend in distress and finds a way to lift them up. Being around for Ted and his kids after their mom died.
This needs to be higher
Gonna go ahead and answer for Patrice here- Robin’s whole existence! I love Robin!
Having a cigarette ready for lily on her wedding day and being the Mary poppins of the group during marshals dad’s funeral and had all the essentials ready (ignore the fact she got that minor drunk).
They grow um big out there!
I feel like beating up that one girl she had initially sent to ruin Barney's second chance with Nora...although granted that was a backpedaling of her being shitty....but still? She did successfully take it back.
Landing a helicopter after the pilot had a medical emergency. The amount of pressure she was in was astronomical! She saved lives.

Party for Barney in home and accept Barney werieds and love that
Aside from this topic I HATE this picture. Tracy and Robin look kinda funky
I just hope when we get to Tracy, the answer is "existing"
Same for Marshall
If Barney was going to jump because he had to give Brover back, she saved his life. I'll still go with her telling Ted that she doesn't love him so that he can move on, though.

Struggling to remember any good things cause shes mostly just an awful character. Maybe when she took Lily to the Shopaholics anonomys thing
Y’all just lost the game
I'd say being the best girlfriend Ted ever have. Season 2 is my favorite, I've always wish Robin "is the mother" from the very beginning.
Yeah, other than Marshall and Lily, they were for sure the best couple of the show in S2. It really shows the relationship evolve...
