Paddy knocked that shit out of the park. I remember seeing him as Viserys in photos before I watched the show and thinking he looked weird and out of place... But watching that first season completely changed my opinion. He might be my favorite character/performance in the entirety of the game of thrones live action universe
The whole scene where he drags his dying self to the throne, stands up for his family, and then drops his crown - and Daemon picks it up and gives it back to him - wow.

Why did they use the younger self of Nyra? I understand that it's because it makes it more like a dream but also because that was where it all began for him with Nyra- When she was little.
Is that anything else I'm missing?
Daemon first abandoned Rhaenyra in her teens.. his latest abandonment is just another instance of that happening.
They used younger Rhaenyra thematically to represent that lifelong abandonment.
Rhaenyra mentions it in Episode 7.. "You abandoned me...look how my life has become".
I'm typically critical, but it is genuinely good writing.
