I definitely think he’s intriguing for several reasons:
1) he’s a proven NHL scorer. Even if he hasn’t scored that much in the past few years, we know he’s got a cannon of a shot and is a great powerplay weapon. We need goals from the wings, so he’d be a great fit.
2) he’s got size. At 6’5” 215 lbs, he’s a chunky boi. Size is never really a “minus” for me but it can be a plus. In Laine’s case it shouldn’t hurt his bounce back chances.
3) he might be had for cheap. Unlike Zegras or Necas, Laine comes with more baggage and is older, so his value is lesser.
4) decent boom-bust ratio. If he’s healthy, he’s usually money for 30 goals 30 assists. But if he’s not, he becomes an anchor. Under MSL and the revamped medical team, I wonder if he could rediscover his scoring touch.
Some of the counterpoints:
1) he’s never healthy, so there’s no point in spending assets to get him for him to be on LTIR all year.
2) he’s one dimensional. His shot is great, but everything else is not. Skating sucks, playmaking is meh, doesn’t really have grit and doesn’t use his size.
3) his cap hit is 8.7m for the next 2 years. That’s a lot of extra space to add, unless we send back salary or CBJ retains.

This why he's a pass from me. Don't need a better but unhealthy Mike Hoffman
I am curious how does montreal make sense for a player with huge warts in the NHL?
We dont have to pull the trigger on every reclamation project or player hoping to wash the stink of previous seasons, off.
The difference is huge in my mind. He’s got two years left on his contract, so you don’t need to sign him to a massive deal unless he proves himself. Laine himself has not had the negative attitude issues the same way that Dubois has. Production wise, Laine has a much better track record, suggesting that last season was an outlier.
Un petit gars de chez nous. Un vrai pur laine
Someone get him a sponsorship with a wool company. :)
Lol

Also he is not mentally fit to survive this market
Self-harm. We like the pain.

Please stop. Not every player who wants a change of scenery needs to be on our team
Feels like the Dubois talk from last year, fool me once
