One benefit of having a ton of picks and a super deep prospect pool is guys randomly surprise and pop up into your lineup like Struble who was way down the depth chart. It doesn't happen often but enough lottery tickets you're bound to get lucky sooner or later.
Funny shit. As I read this on the patio at the cottage I hear two Squirrels chirping like birds. Look over and one is saddled up on the back of the other. Wasn’t able to check the bloodlines to see if they were Kapanen’s
He has a valid contract in Europe, that can only be broken if he makes an NHL team. This contract means that he will be with Laval for the 2025-26 season (unless he makes Canadiens)
He's expected to play in the SHL this year. That's been the plan for a while and he just signed there.
But if the Habs' plan is to loan him **after** the training camp and he's as good as he was in the season ending, the playoffs and the World Cup (it seems like he took his game to another level), they might try to keep him in Montreal (especially **if** there's space).
His dad ~~owns~~ works at the SHL team where he signed. I don't know if it facilitates or complicates things
Sure thing (imo) : He won't play in Laval
Lol Kimmo Kapanen doesn't own Timrå, he's the sporting director there. Timrå, like almost all nordic sports clubs is a non-profit organization owned by the members of the club themselves who can buy shares of the club
Yeah they’re exactly the kind of supplementary pieces I’d want to support the Zuk/Cole/Slaf/Dach top line guys going forward. And both those guys have a solid offensive upside that you want to have from your depth especially come playoff time.
Yeah! ELC is the best investment plus means Hughes thinks he is worth it knowing what's coming so I hope/imagine he will have the kind of camp to turn heads.
***edit*** - does anyone know if he got more $ on his ELC under the new cap calculations? 925 vs it was 775 in my memory
832.5K Salary & 92.5K Signing Bonus
"A" Perf Bonuses:
Yr 2 - 637.5K
Yr 3 - 850K
Max "A" attainable during contract is $850K
Cap Hit 925K, AAV $1.21M
What !?!?
I thought this was done months ago, no ? Do I come back from future ?
We all knew that he'll come here for training camp. If he won't make the team, he'll head back to Europe to play for his dad's team, no ? He won't be in Laval.
That’s a lot of decent forwards signed to the rockets. Mianscum, Davidson, Beck, Kapanen, Kidney, etc. I’m expecting some flashes, but also a big roller coaster ride. I’m all for it, mostly because they’re is a lot of hope!!
That’s not true, the player needs to have the talent to start with. Caufield, Roy, Romanov, Guhle, Struble, Tuch, Dobes mostly developed outside of the Habs system.
Kind of got lost in the shuffle for a year or two, but is shaping up nicely now.

Atta boy kapanen you fuckin beauty
Welcome Oliver!!
Finland has a fuckin hockey breading program with this Kapanen family.
> hockey breading program I had they panko crusted Kapa last time I went, it was scrumptious!
Wonder which of the Kapanen and Koivu families breeds the best players. Only one way to find out
Make them breed and create the super player Koipanen.

No wonder there are squirrels hanging around you, you're nuts!
Absolutely bonkers
This confirms he's playing in North America next year, right? If he's in Europe it would have to mean he's just loaned there?
It's Montreal or back to Timrå for the 2024-25 season.
Why not laval? How does rhat work?

Ahh ok ty for clarifying, Patrik.
Much appreciated Patrik!
Likely at least one year in the SHL. He just signed there

Let's go Kapy!
Well deserved.
He was kind of a sleeper prospect for a while but he just keeps getting better every year. Excited to see what he can do in Laval!
Another 200 ft player . Kapanen and Beck are going to drive other teams offensive juggernauts mad

Exactamundo
You'll have to wait until 2025 to see that ;)
Gosh darnit

Wonder if we can get Kapanen and Koivu together if we draft him...
Attaboy Kapanen
ATTABOY KAPANEN YOU FUCKIN BEAUT' !!!

You might be thinking of Engstrom who was signed back in Apr 28th
>Do I come back from future ? I need either the sports almanac, or next week's lottery numbers.

Kapanen is not playing in Laval. He either makes the Habs or goes to play for his dad’s team Timra in Sweden.
Attaboy
Bergys draft philosophy improved drastically from 2019 onwards.
Bergy's draft philosophy improved drastically once somebody else ended up developing the prospects he drafted.

Deserved. Can’t wait to see this kid in action.
Nice nice. Do we see him and beck competing for the same spot in 2025. Does this mean we could use one in a trade? Thoughts?
I'd rather see them together, and alternate. But that would mean moving DVO and Evans around. Let them play and figure out where they belong.
I do wonder if it gives us a real prospect trade chip we can actually move.
Tidy bit of business. Love to see it.
Thank god
Feels like the training camp after draft will have lots of competition for the bottom 6.
