They're the Black Mesa power glasses! Shows a hud display and are literally indestructible. They are fused to his skull when he wants them to stay on from the power of his mind
Get foreign alien substances all over your face but don’t worry your eyes are fine a small little problem is the lack of protection for the rest of the face but I assure that these have been tested and deemed safe by black mesa’s standards.
According to Laidlaw himself the canon is non-canon, and both expansions are on a "canon until proven otherwise" basis, and they have yet to be disproven (he didn't say that about the expansions, that's just the general consensus)
You know, that was also going to be Mr.Friendly's attack? "Knock off Gordon's glasses & the player will have blurred vision temporarily" sadly, the tech wasn't quite matured enough by the time Half-Life was released, so this feature was removed.
Mr. Friendly was also supposed to eat corpses, thus, providing an in-game reason of why the bodies would disappear in game.
Ohh, and... Mr. Friendly had a few more tricks, though, I'll let you read up on those yourself... *Gulps* what a terrifying creature he would have been....
I swear in half life anniversary video valve did they talked about a kid making a rough drawing or describing it or something like that then Ted improved it for the game
If Gordon's story is to be believed - surviving countless shootouts, attacks, falls, and the like without ever dying or becoming severely injured - then he's extremely lucky.
Doable. As long as they're intact most glasses stay pretty snug even as you're moving around a lot. I wear glasses and I'm pretty active, and they're usually only at risk of falling off once they're damaged. Getting hit in the face, maybe not so much.
Background: I wear glasses, and have been involved in operations around Black Mesa.
The trick is simple - you put some superglue behind your ears, and then quickly put your glasses on. Works like a charm.
Considering he was coming in to work on a day where he had to wear the hazard suit, I assume he has one of those strap things that you're supposed to put on your glasses when doing strenuous activity.
Clearly OP does not wear glasses. Aside from getting shot at I've done all of these activities and managed to keep my glasses on. I doubt getting shot in the eyes with or without glasses would change much.
Actually funny that you mention it there was a little comic drawn by one of the programmers showing Gordon complaining about his glasses being too tight and that he should get them resized soon, but yeah I assume it wasn't canon since it was just a little pencil doodle on paper. Still a neat bit of history though!
Broke: Gordan actually wears his HEV helmet most of the time.
Woke: Gordan is wearing hi-tech Black Mesa hazardous environment glasses which give him his HUD
Woker: Gordan doesn't wear glasses, the Combine add them to all pictures or drawings of him to make him look more like a nerd
I've always been of the opinion that he wears a helmet in combat and takes it off when he's in a safe spot. The art of him without a helmet is just artistic license. There's just too much that doesn't make sense about him not wearing a helmet imo.
They're the Black Mesa power glasses! Shows a hud display and are literally indestructible. They are fused to his skull when he wants them to stay on from the power of his mind
They also provide oxygen when he's underwater.
And morphine.
Morphine administered
No wonder the combine is after him, he had access to infinite drugs.
the grunts almost couldn't take them off!
Kleinertech
I'll use my Powerlegs^TM ! *dr.coomer jumps into the atmosphere*
This is part of my headcanon now
He's a highly trained professional.
He doesn't have time for this
Prolly he doesn't need to hear all that
And explain anything
You know what could be better than being a highly trained professional? His glasses being augmented
Black Mesa Tape™
They came with the suit, that's why he doesn't wear a helmet, they were trying a new prototype at Black Mesa
Get foreign alien substances all over your face but don’t worry your eyes are fine a small little problem is the lack of protection for the rest of the face but I assure that these have been tested and deemed safe by black mesa’s standards.
Super glued to his ears
They don't fall off because he wears a helmet
He doesn't
He does otherwise he would have died in half the places he was through.
Xen was perfectly breathable witnessed by the out of place scientist and all of the other life
Its not about oxygen, its about radiation, chemicals, bullets, heat, you know all the things he goes through before XEN
He doesn't, the suit doesn't come with one that we can see and you don't see him wear one in opposing force
Isn't opposing force and blue shift noncanon or something?
According to Laidlaw himself the canon is non-canon, and both expansions are on a "canon until proven otherwise" basis, and they have yet to be disproven (he didn't say that about the expansions, that's just the general consensus)
There is too much things that happen in the expansions that explain things in the second game for valve to go and say there non canon
They're only frames and have no lenses
His HEV suit secretes it, like morphine.
Glasses. Administered. *pshhhht*
At the end of episode 2 they do fall off and you see him putting them back on at the end of alyx
He used the Glue-On Gun.
Bravo

I’m pretty sure he was also designed by a horny 13 year old boy witch tells you everything you need to know
Not quite. Pretty sure it was Ted Backman's work.
I swear in half life anniversary video valve did they talked about a kid making a rough drawing or describing it or something like that then Ted improved it for the game

My Gordon has died hundreds of grisly deaths :'(
The amount of “GRENADE”s I heard in my head wile reading that comment is very large it’s like ptsd
Is the half life hard mode that bad? (I only played medium)
I played hard mode on the oculus quest port it’s not too bad but Rhodes dam grenade always get you when your not paying attention
half life hard mode was alright opposing force hard mode has made me scream violently at the sight of a wrench
Same reason why bill's hat never falls off in L4D
He gets shot at in his skull you're worried about his glasses breaking?
Black Mesa™️ state of the art titanium replacement bones now available at your local government funded health care facilities
He doesn't appear to wear glasses in the first game and in Half-Life 2 he's just black, human shaped entity
Super glue probably
Is he smart?
He’s a highly trained professional
gordon is actually a sentient robot, his head is just a mask
Somebody told me that they weee screwed into his head and that’s been my headcanon since
He glud dem
His helmet is on over them.
In theory he's wearing a helmet most of the time.
Sadly the theory was disproven in half life alxy and also in like every half life 2 poster
Because it is a ficcional game
Super glue
Krazy glue
Hot glue
Belt.
Tape
it's a very strange type of headcrab that looks like a pair of glasses.

He has turboflex glasses
Because he's the Freeman.
Background: I wear glasses, and have been involved in operations around Black Mesa. The trick is simple - you put some superglue behind your ears, and then quickly put your glasses on. Works like a charm.
I do the same all the time really useful in those funny little experiments were not allowed to talk about
Plot convenience
He's built different
High impact reactive armour activated. Have a very safe day.
Cause he's Gordon Freeman, duuuuuh! /jk
Zeiss lenses, the best on the market.. Joking
integrated body part
And don’t fog either!?
His entire body regulates the temperature of his glasses super heating and cooling them to ovoid all fogging
Your glasses vs. My glasses
He puts it on only for th photoshoot to appear more sciency… duh!
Combine just respects that since it's uncool to punch somebody with glasses and have them broken
Gordon's immense IQ level makes his brain magnetic.
Considering he was coming in to work on a day where he had to wear the hazard suit, I assume he has one of those strap things that you're supposed to put on your glasses when doing strenuous activity.
He's a professional
Clearly OP does not wear glasses. Aside from getting shot at I've done all of these activities and managed to keep my glasses on. I doubt getting shot in the eyes with or without glasses would change much.
Wow you’ve even been to an alien planet, impressive work
He’s sticky
Very strong glue.
Nerd strap
In half life 2 mmod there are scratches and smudges on his glasses that add a lot of immersion to the gameplay
Cause they didn’t code the game so that they could come off.
tape:)
They're physically embedded in his skull
🌙⚡⭐**MAGIC**⭐⚡🌙🧙🏻♂️
maybe he's like me where his glasses are annoyingly tight and would need to be pried off with the crowbar.
Actually funny that you mention it there was a little comic drawn by one of the programmers showing Gordon complaining about his glasses being too tight and that he should get them resized soon, but yeah I assume it wasn't canon since it was just a little pencil doodle on paper. Still a neat bit of history though!
Gordon blinked out his sentences in Morse code if not clearly never gonna be canon
how do you type with boxing gloves on
realistic answer would be a retainer strap which feels very gordon
It’s just not a feature in the game. It’s Fake Man It’s Freaking Fake!
Broke: Gordan actually wears his HEV helmet most of the time. Woke: Gordan is wearing hi-tech Black Mesa hazardous environment glasses which give him his HUD Woker: Gordan doesn't wear glasses, the Combine add them to all pictures or drawings of him to make him look more like a nerd
These are safety glasses 🕶️🤓
Boy, I sure hope someone got fired for that blunder
Nokia glasses, easy
He probably glued them to his face
Is he stupid?
bros glasses is made from a higher material far higher from vibranium.
Video game
Gordon still hasn't figured out I put superglue on the nibs of his glasses lmao
He uses the force
pisichs
he's js thuggin like that
Turboflex glasses 💅
It's part of the HEV suit
They’re imbedded into his skull
Glue
I have a theory that the glasses are made by Black Mesa and are super durable and it could also provide a shield around the head and it displays a hud
I've always been of the opinion that he wears a helmet in combat and takes it off when he's in a safe spot. The art of him without a helmet is just artistic license. There's just too much that doesn't make sense about him not wearing a helmet imo.
Glasses stay snug on your face and really aren’t effected by jumping swimming and such, I do rock climbing and they never fall off
