Spore Launcher should definitely be higher, it's ridiculously powerful, and even one spore pod on the map can completely refill its ammo supply with enough patience (or host_framerate)
Lies! All lies spread by worshippers of a false idol! We all know the Knife is the only true Melee weapon, all others wish they could stand close to the mythic status of the Knife.
I'd have put the shotgun in S, it's just the workhorse weapon that has good ammo and can handle any situation except being outnumbered by marines while being out of cover.
It's not the best weapon sure but the sheer work it does make it the complete backbone of your arsenal.
The revolver and shotgun were my best friend in HL1. Countless times that shotgun saved my ass in some close situations, and the revolver too. Although, the Tau is still probably my favorite weapon in HL1, but the Shotgun and Revolver are close seconds.
Shotgun is less useful in hard difficulty due to enemies becoming much tankier. I donโt think a double burst can even one shot a marine in melee range while the marines dump their entire magazine at you
The models don't change the rating, they don't change the gameplay anyway. Only reason it's HD models is because the person who made the list used those
The Glock and MP5 combination is more accurate than the M9 and M4 combination as the Glock and MP5 use the same ammuntion IRL, just like the game, and the Glock 18 represented in the game has a full auto fuction, unlike the M9.
The HD model pack requires pretending that the M4 is chambered in 9x19, and that the m9 is actually some weird M93 with a full auto function and only M9 parts.
The main problem is it comes kinda too late for where it would have been most useful, when you're still kinda low on ammo and don't have that many options. But you get it halfway through Surface Tension, when you're constantly full on SMG/pistol ammo so the infinite ammo doesn't matter and you have so many different weapons to choose from. Definitely think it's underrated by most people tho.
I remember hating on fly until I seriously started to play on hardest.
It spares ammo and gives you edge in many situations when you combine cheesing with final run and shoot.
Okay yeah on second thought Spore Launcher should be in A. I guess I tried so hard not to let my bias to how cool and kind of adorable it is cloud my judgment of the weapon's quality that I understated it. Spores can be hard to aim though, and waiting for those pods to recharge is really annoying.
Grenades are too clunky to use properly. You can barely bounce them off walls and don't even try to throw them while moving.
Satchel charges are good against groups of unsuspecting enemies, but is matched or outclassed by SMG grenades in pretty much every scenario. Laying traps can be good but very situational.
I think it's a matter of practice, moving changes the direction of where the grenades go and that can be very helpful at times.
For example moving forward alows you to throw them farther. I never problems bouncing them of walls, when I do that. Moving backward is helpful if an enemy is chasing you.
I'd show you what I mean on a video, if I could easily do that.
Crossbow is definitely S. Far away enemy giving you trouble? Delete that bitch with the crossbow. Mounted gun? Stand far away, shoot the operator, steal mounted gun
Yes, the wrench is cool and the best melee weapon, but the best melee weapon is still a melee weapon. If you're at melee range you might as well use the shotgun.
Not only does it conserve on ammo but if you don't walk straight into an enemies firing it is really good.
Also I may have a bias from Engineer.tf2, bioshock, system shock 2 and Prey
If you're ever running low on shotgun ammo you're doing something wrong
I mean yeah I definitely love sneaking up on enemies and obliterating them with a charged swing like some discount Spy but once you have guns there's really rarely ever a reason to go melee
I find it's generally a bad idea to get in melee range of any aliens except zombies, headcrabs or lonely houndeyes. Even if you charge up the shot to one shot them, the approach itself is still hazardous.
Shotgun can feel underpowered on hard difficulty but on lower a double blast from decently close range takes good care of a lot of things. Definitely the best way to deal with zombies, houndeyes or headcrabs that are too close for easy pistol picking.
Nah man hivehand does the same damage as pistol and you don't even have to aim. I beat the entire game with only the hivehand twice and apart from the bosses it wasn't even that bad
HL2 crossbow is top S tier for sure. HL1 crossbow doesn't feel quite as powerful (and doesn't do funni ragdoll pinning) but the crazy big ammo capacity is a plus for sure.
Yeah I really hesitated if it was S or A hut decided to put it at the very top of A. Kinda like spore launcher being top B instead of A when maybe it should have been A.
The deagle is literally better than the revolver in almost every way lol.
Also the knife and wrench should be way higher, you are not giving them enough credit as to how useful they are for wiping out enemies without spending ammo.
Tripmines are fantastically handy with assassin's, also Snarks are great when there's a squad of soldiers about and you want a distraction and to chip away health.
I agree with this a lot more than the other post. The only exceptions are that I'd lower the shotgun and missile launcher to C because they never always disappoint me in clutch moments. I would also raise the Hive Hand to B because of how good it was in Black Mesa.
The Deagle is terrible for an S-rank weapon. The knife and crowbar are useful for headcrabs or other easy enemies and bashing crates, planks, grates, etc. so they should definitely be higher.
The deagle is like the revolver but you get more ammo for it, get it right away, and get flexibility between accuracy and fire rate.
The knife and crowbar are useful against enemies that you can kill easily with even the barnacle. And don't give me that "ammo conservation", if you can't afford to use your pistol or shotgun on a headcrab you're doing something wrong. Also I only considered combat, obviously you use them to break things.
While the MP5 is generally useful throughout the entire game, I'll always prefer using other guns like revolver or tau cannon if I have ammo for them. The underslung grenades, however, are deserving of S tier.
Spore Launcher should definitely be higher, it's ridiculously powerful, and even one spore pod on the map can completely refill its ammo supply with enough patience (or host_framerate)
I'm surprised the spore launcher is so low tbh. It's one of my favourite weapons in the whole series.
Yeah I would bump it up to A on second thought. Plus it's the cutest weapon.
Other spore launcher enjoyers I see
Agreed!
This slander against the holy Knife, wielded by the mightiest of warriors, the Shephard himself, will not be considered as anything but blasphemy.
Virgin Knife Chad Wrench
The knife was frankly unnecessary. You already had the wrench and melee is rarely more viable than guns anyway.
Silence infidel, you reject His purity, turning away from the path set out by the greatest of them all, Adrian Shephard Himself.
Silence, heretic! The only true way is the path of wrench, repent your blasphemy now before the wrath of wrench reaches you!
Lies! All lies spread by worshippers of a false idol! We all know the Knife is the only true Melee weapon, all others wish they could stand close to the mythic status of the Knife.
Are you seriously disgracing the Church of Just-Fucking-Running?
You my good sir are disappointing the Crowbar-Cult!
I like the shotgun
Understandable, have a great day.
And how do you break crates exactly? The knife melts thru crates.
I only considered combat use
*Then you are lost!*
ok but swish swish stab slice i rest my case
You can break stuff faster with it tho
The wrench is too damn slow
barnacle
barnacle
barnacle
barnacle
barnacle
barnacle
I'd have put the shotgun in S, it's just the workhorse weapon that has good ammo and can handle any situation except being outnumbered by marines while being out of cover. It's not the best weapon sure but the sheer work it does make it the complete backbone of your arsenal.

Shotgun is less useful in hard difficulty due to enemies becoming much tankier. I donโt think a double burst can even one shot a marine in melee range while the marines dump their entire magazine at you
Yes, shotgun is totally balanced around Normal difficulty
Yeah Marines need some tactical sprinting around corners with the shotgun.
And without hd models?
The models don't change the rating, they don't change the gameplay anyway. Only reason it's HD models is because the person who made the list used those
Oh. Well the glock to me feels a lot better and more accurate to use than the baretta, so I'd bump that one up if that was the case...just personally
they are litterally the same thing, it is just a re-skin
they literally function the exact same, what
The Glock and MP5 combination is more accurate than the M9 and M4 combination as the Glock and MP5 use the same ammuntion IRL, just like the game, and the Glock 18 represented in the game has a full auto fuction, unlike the M9. The HD model pack requires pretending that the M4 is chambered in 9x19, and that the m9 is actually some weird M93 with a full auto function and only M9 parts.
oh I thought you meant accurate as in bullet accuracy either way idrc, also isn't it a Glock 17-
It's a Glock 18, the 17 doesn't have a full auto function, the 18 has Semi Auto and Full Auto
I didn't know the 18 had semi-auto, cheers
you have schizophrenia into the woodchipper with ye
Ight imma do a tucker and dale
Idk man the fly shooting weapon was really good if i didnt want an enemy to shoot me
The main problem is it comes kinda too late for where it would have been most useful, when you're still kinda low on ammo and don't have that many options. But you get it halfway through Surface Tension, when you're constantly full on SMG/pistol ammo so the infinite ammo doesn't matter and you have so many different weapons to choose from. I remember hating on fly until I seriously started to play on hardest. It spares ammo and gives you edge in many situations when you combine cheesing with final run and shoot.
Yes exactly, killing enemies without them shooting back can save ammo and health you could have lost
Why satchel charge and grenades so low, they're so strong.
Grenades are too clunky to use properly. You can barely bounce them off walls and don't even try to throw them while moving. Satchel charges are good against groups of unsuspecting enemies, but is matched or outclassed by SMG grenades in pretty much every scenario. Laying traps can be good but very situational.

Why wrench > other melees?
You can charge up, sneak up on an unsuspecting enemy and obliterate them. *I am ze spy* (snort)
Big damage go brrrr
The charge attack is too good
It can literally one shot a ton of enemies if you charge up the alt fire for about 2 seconds.
Okay. Elaborate.
On what weapon
I see the tau cannon is where it belongs.
Spore launcher should be A and crossbow should be S
Crossbow is definitely S. Far away enemy giving you trouble? Delete that bitch with the crossbow. Mounted gun? Stand far away, shoot the operator, steal mounted gun
Because crowbar goes CLANG CLANG CLANG CLANG CLANG CLANG CLANG CLANG CLANG!!!
Why slander melee? crowbar/knife/wrench are good for breaking boxes (using gun waste ammo, ammo waste bad remember.) and wood andd all that shit
Yes but that's not combat
Deagle needs to be in two tiers. S for laser on and F for laser off.
Well if we start like that I'd put SMG grenades in S
Don't disrespect the wrench, it is the greatest melee weapon in gaming Also the shotgun fires marshmellows it is automatically too high
If you're ever running low on shotgun ammo you're doing something wrong I mean yeah I definitely love sneaking up on enemies and obliterating them with a charged swing like some discount Spy but once you have guns there's really rarely ever a reason to go melee
Idk if it's just me but the shotgun fires marshmellows while the wrench is significantly more reliable, especially against most aliens
Their melees are slow enough that I can run up, charge hit em, run back and charge hit em and boom, dead alien and ammo was not lost
Idk man it kills regular troops with 2 shots or alt fire, if you use them on like black ops then yeah youre dead
I forgot one: The Penguin Grenade is SS+ tier
Why is there no satchel?
Nevermind it's right there
Grenades, Satchel, Pistol, and Wrench are above the Hive Hand
Nah man hivehand does the same damage as pistol and you don't even have to aim. I beat the entire game with only the hivehand twice and apart from the bosses it wasn't even that bad
Man you did the spore launcher dirty
I'd personally put the crossbow at the top, but that's just me alternating between the 357 and the cbow as my main 2 weapons
HL2 crossbow is top S tier for sure. HL1 crossbow doesn't feel quite as powerful (and doesn't do funni ragdoll pinning) but the crazy big ammo capacity is a plus for sure.
I find it extremely useful for firing 2 quick darts at alien grunts before they release the bees
Well the deagle is above the revolver. Revolver is still solid S tier though, especially since you never have access to both.
Fair enough
barnacle
Snark is the perfect weapon
the wrench and the knife are the best melee weapons ngl, the crowbar may be iconic but the wrench and knife is stronger and more fun
Put snarks in F(riend)
Hey, the satchels are sick for airbangs
Tripmines are fantastically handy with assassin's, also Snarks are great when there's a squad of soldiers about and you want a distraction and to chip away health.
Exactly: situational
Your opinion is wrong. Please do not elaborate.
Understandable have a nice day
"why use melee when you have a gun" (also puts a melee weapons on the tier above)
Because the wrench actually has value sometimes
You included Opposing Force weapons, but not the Grenade Penguins??
I made a comment saying they're SS+ tier
Ah, the transcendent rating. My apologies.
I agree with this a lot more than the other post. The only exceptions are that I'd lower the shotgun and missile launcher to C because they never always disappoint me in clutch moments. I would also raise the Hive Hand to B because of how good it was in Black Mesa.
Why isnt displacer Canon on s you can insta "kill" any enemy And hd model enjoyer
Yes but it fires slowly and only holds 5 shots, and you can't fire it close to you, otherwise it'd be S
And don't give me that "ammo conservation", if you can't afford to use your pistol or shotgun on a headcrab you're doing something wrong. Also I only considered combat, obviously you use them to break things.
Uhhhh excuse me? Why are snarks not a tier above S?
I like this list but the m4/mp5 should be in a tier Edit S tier
It is?
Autocorrect Iโm on Mobil I meant to say s tier
While the MP5 is generally useful throughout the entire game, I'll always prefer using other guns like revolver or tau cannon if I have ammo for them. The underslung grenades, however, are deserving of S tier.
Yeah those grenades got me through interloper
That's pretty solid, everyone can quit it with this now
Barnacle
Do you shoot vents open with a gun?
I only considered how good they are in combat, otherwise I'd have to consider that the barnacle is crucial for mobility (even if it's clunky)
Bro put crossbow in A tier and not S๐๐
Snarks should be higher for their ability to break up ambushes
I'd put the Pistol in A, it's very useful when headshotting zombies, vorts and beret hgrunts.
Satchel charge deserves higher
