Pelanora

You can fly  Combat is really fun  Castle is stunning  Landscape is lovely  Plus outfits, sort-of pets, puzzles, NPCs are funny....

Pelanora

Also: There are deadly cabbages  When it snows, it lands on your hair.  You rescue a dragon.

GainIntrepid2837

I have questions, do pets accompany you? And the exploration when flying is so free that I can go practically anywhere, like if I want to climb a very tall building if I want xd?

devilsxplayground

flying is relatively free but there are a few restricted areas. there is no pet accompaniment, unfortunately. BUT without spoiling too much, you will have access to beasts/creatures. i highly recommend getting the game, especially if it is on sale! my partner played (and enjoyed) the game before seeing the movies or reading any of the books. edit: typo

Pelanora

That's why I said sort-of pets. You capture and keep them, but they don't travel with you.  You can pretty much fly anywhere but not absolutely everywhere.

RovakX

Pfff, “keep them”, you breed them and sell their babies.

theotherthinker

Yea right. They keep talking about poachers. I literally took a bag from the poachers and am now using it to catch creatures in the wild to keep in my zoo.

fl0zz4

no pets can follow you, but you can rescues magical beasts and keep them in habitats (you can feed them and play with them in there too). and yeah once you get to a certain level you can unlock brooms and fly around freely :)

ravenclawdisneyfan

You can fly some pets

RovakX

The “pets” don’t accompany you. But you can summon a griffon and fly around on it.

AJ_Deadshow

>NPCs are funny Not just the dialogue but if you load saves a lot you might encounter some funny glitches. I had Sebastian halfway through the floor one time

RovakX

Sort-of-pets? Nice eufemism. You’re a paocher, there, I’ve said it.

caramellhell

I wasn’t allowed to read the books as a kid due to being raised by a crazy person lol. Playing the game has made me order the books and other collectibles.

GainIntrepid2837

lol, even so I'm afraid that it will happen to me like Jedi Fallen Order, I bought it and I didn't like it even though I saw the first trilogy which I did like, unlike that case I spent 15 dollars but for this game I have to give 40 so...

Professional-Hold938

Fallen order and survivor might be star wars but the gameplay is the reason alot of people who don't like/seen star wars still enjoy those games. Like you can recommend those to someone as fun games because people like parkour puzzle games with satisfying combat Hogwarts legacy I feel like you need a certain love of the universe to appreciate alot of what this game is. People have wanted a good Hogwarts game for so long that the fact it feels so much like how everyone imagined people are able to look past it's short comings. But it's still independent enough that you'll probably enjoy it, it's not like the south park games where you need to be a fan to understand 99% of what they're talking about

MLPCoomJar

You didn't like fallen order? Interesting take but we all have preferences. Dunno if you'll like this game then but it's quite different in many ways as other people have said already. At some point If you're into assassins creed you can kinda make your character look like one :). If interested I can give you the exact outfit combination for it. The main clothes won't be white however but it looks good on a male if you ask me

GainIntrepid2837

I like AC but an appearance of AC is not going to be decisive when it comes to really buying it xD

Comprehensive_Tip310

Never finished the fallen order either. Got repetitive and bland about halfway through for me as well.

roadlover1123

I love games. But if I was not a huge potter fan. I am not sure it would have held my interest. But the graphics are good, the story line is good, and the combat is good.

sebystee

The story line is very mid I thought, my favourite part of the game was exploring Hogwarts as it gave me huge nostalgia hits.

mr_ryno27

I've said this many times about this game. If you're a Potter fan, 11/10. Knocks the nostalgia out of the park. As a game, I give it 6.5/10. It is fun. The world is huge and pretty fun, but quests do tend to be repetitive, the loot system for chests seems completely random, and there's no moral system. The last one gets me. You have a chance for all these different dialog choices, and it doesn't matter. I grew up on Harry Pottter, and despite all this I'm about to complete my 6th playthrough, none at 100% though.

uglytomma

Hit the nail on the head, the story was meh but it’s so enjoyable being in Hogwarts. Would like abit more variety in the world regarding quests and enemies, I would love to run about with a friend online doing the quests and battles. If they made an mmo like Warcraft that would be so sweet.

Ok-Guidance-3632

The environment is stunning. Combat is fun but gets dull after a while. The story, to me, is lackluster.

Salador-Baker

No, comparing it to other games you played, I feel like you'll be disappointed. One of the things that makes this game great is nostalgia. It's not an RPG, barely a role playing game. Your decisions don't dictate the game in any true way (if you say no to someone, you can come back and say yes two minutes later with no penalty, you can use the Unforgivable Curses without anyone batting an eye after they tell you using them will send you to prison. There's one quest in particular that if you don't give someone the object they ask for they get pissy, walk away and immediately pull said object you did not give them out of their pockets) Game play is super easy, massive step down from Elden Ring if you like a challenge. Flying is finicky. Fun, but not great and needs to be refined. The story itself is really interesting for the first half then the two "main" side quests end up being much more entertaining than the main campaign.

_Fluke_Skywalker_

\[Edited for emphasis on how HL is a RPG\] I agree with you except the 'not an RPG' point. The main elements of a Role Playing Game are exploration, chartacter customisation, character leveling up and progression, (mostly) a big, open world to explore, narrative choices. Considering it checks most of these boxes, I would say the game is a Role Playing Game by all means. A choice-driven RPG? Yeah it's not. Choices that affect the gameplay is an aspect of RPG that certain people prefer to have!

MiddieFromMhigo

By your definition Gears of War is an rpg

_Fluke_Skywalker_

It's a shooter bro

MiddieFromMhigo

Yeah but you take the role of Marcus, a member of gears! Halo is an rpg too because you take the role of Master Chief, the Spartan. My point is by your definition of an rpg, everything can be called an rpg

_Fluke_Skywalker_

I said the most basic terms. Literal meaning. And with that, yes, every game can be called a RPG. The reason they are not is because the other mechanics or playstyle of the game overshadows the RPG part. You wouldn't care about Master Chief in Halo if he was a common terrorist counter terrorist. There's a story in the game. You are role playing. But you call it a shooter as that's the core loop of the game.

MiddieFromMhigo

Legacy isnt an RPG simply because you play as a Hogwarts student. You dont understand what an RPG actually is.

_Fluke_Skywalker_

Check my parent comment :)

_Fluke_Skywalker_

Fine then tell me what an RPG is?

MiddieFromMhigo

An RPG is a game where you can make decisions that impact the games narrative by constructing your own character. Playstyle, Alignment, ect and having those attributes play a part in the games overall story and outcome. Legacy isnt an RPG because you cant play anything like an alignment because the game itself doesnt recognize it. You can AK someone in front of your professors at the end of the game and literally nothing happens. Theres no way to really build your character that really defines them or makes them stand out. There are perk trees, but they wont drastically shake up how you play the game, just buffs particular spells and potions. Hogwarts Legacy is an Action Adventure game like Assassins Creed.

_Fluke_Skywalker_

Like I said previously, narrative choices aren't all that makes a RPG. But you can keep your beliefs as long as it floats your boat.

ThePastaConnoisseur

Full disclosure, I am a huge Harry Potter fan but I didn’t buy the game until very recently because I wasn’t sure if I’d enjoy it, if it’d fall short of the “magic” of the wizarding world Rowling built. I am addicted to it and enjoy it immensely! You don’t have to be a Harry Potter fan to enjoy this game, you don’t even have to be a Harry Potter fan to understand the story. It is by no means reliant on the book series or the movies to give any context. You may come across some terms or crazy language and be like “WHAT does that mean”, but this is more in line with the fantasy world setting (in other words, you’re not supposed to know what it means lol). They do have a nice encyclopedia in the game through if there were something you did come across and wanted to know what it was (not sure how in depth it is though). In terms of the world itself, I find it similar to Fable or Dragon Age in how much you can interact with it and how free you are to explore. It’s not Skyrim levels of interacting with the environment but there is a lot to see and do. There isn’t any sort of morality system or way to build relationships with notable characters in the game, but I think the storylines written around these characters are well done. They don’t fall flat or feel shoehorned in. Some flaws I’ve noticed is that (outside of a quest), talking with NPCs is nonexistent. They will have conversations with each other you can listen in on, you just don’t have any part of it. Additionally, enemies have become repetitive. Combat itself is a blast and much more diverse than I thought it would be. Enemy diversity is limited however. I can probably count on 2 hands the number of enemies to fight: goblins, wolves, poachers, spiders, statues, corpses, dugbog… I might be missing 1 or 2, but that’s definitely most of them. The combat itself does not get boring though! Potions, potion ingredients, etc is very limited. Potion crafting exists, but it’s as simple as get ingredient —> make potion. There are only like 6 potions in the game and I admittedly only use 1 (to heal). I’m still part of the way through, but I have so far really enjoyed the story and side quests. Given that Harry Potter itself is for young adults, I was a bit surprised at some of the darker nature of some of the quests. They don’t shy away from darker content which I really appreciated. Anyways, to summarize, I’ve really enjoyed the game and feel it was worth my money. For a game that wasn’t made by some huge company, I think it’s incredibly well done and does its namesake justice. Definitely a good time for Harry Potter fans and non-fans

Adventchur

I'm currently on my first play through and I'm enjoying it. The quests aren't too repetitive and the combat and flying is fun. I'm also enjoying the story. The loot system and gear uprading system sort of sucks and after finishing cyberpunk recently all the npcs and villages just feel a bit hollow. Elden ring and cyberpunk are two of the most immersive and full games of the last 10 years. If you're looking for that experience in hogwarts you might need to lower your expectations a bit.

Legal-Philosophy-135

I’ve bought the deluxe edition on pre order full price and have never once regretted it. It’s the Only game I’ve ever gone for the deluxe edition. On sale it’s even more worth it. Just, maybe don’t try it on switch lol. I’ve heard bad things about

Suspicious-String-53

It’s terrible on switch. Big mistake. I went and got it on Xbox S instead

LastDiamond5178

Im playing it on the switch and like it. What would you say is better on other devices? I know on PS5 there’s an extra quest and some hallways are bridges, on PC the resolution is better. Plus there are no/less loading screens. Would you say this is a huge impact on the fun?

Suspicious-String-53

For me on switch you can see literally all the hair pieces and stuff. Graphics are awful. It was always glitchy and would boot me out. I prefer it on Xbox, graphics are better, game runs smoothly.

Proudest___monkey

I like it, but i would be way less intrigued if it wasn’t HP world centric.

Rob_Reason

My favorite game of 2023, yes absolutely.

Jonesgrieves

It’s not an RPG in the same way an Oblivion or Baldur’s Gate is, which is to say there’s a story path to follow with a few branches to explore. There is a very open world, which is visually stunning, and that by itself makes it a treat to explore. I like Harry Potter so to me this game was very fun to play because of all the lore the game has, so maybe……. watch one or two of the movies first haha. It’s a fine game for non-fans, but made so much better by knowing the references.

KiraPond

Even if your not interested in the HP world the game itself is really fun to play. I have had over 250 hours played and have completed all 4 houses. Still need to get a 100% on 2 of my playtroughs. I have restarted my Gryffindor one on hard mode recently

Xivdad

Every Hogwarts Legacy post on Reddit has to have a comment telling you that you are a bad person for having the game. Consider this comment to be that. (Just kidding of course) Other than that the game is Amazing. Especially if you have a nice screen. You can tell that the devs love Hogwarts Castle. Some(not all) of the lore of the game lines up with a "what if the game was canon?" universe. Which you will appreciate if you have read the books. Personally I never fast travel inside the castle cause I wanted to memorize it like an actual student would. My only downside is that I felt the story was too short for my liking.

ThatsNotWhatyouMean

In my personal opinion, the reason why I enjoyed the game, was the nostalgia and being able to walk around in a world that I know from the books/movies. The gameplay and combat are pretty decent. But the content is seriously lacking. Most sidequests are very repetitive and it gets old pretty fast. About halfway through the main story I just started rushing through the main quests just to get it over with so I could put the game away without feeling "bad" that I didn't finish it. The game feels like they had great ideas that turned out to be to ambitious for the amount of time/money they had so they had to scrap gameplay mechanics left and right in order to get the game finished. It's not a bad game, but it was disappointing and felt like they expected nostalgia to carry the game for the most part.

shaunmanne

R2D2 is in it.

W4iskyD3lta93r

Yes yes YES

SubstantialAd5579

Absolutely a blast first half idk I had a wall a steel one lol but I do play here and there it's definitely challenging but fun

edgelord253

It's pure fun im not a Potter fan but had a great time playing it

d00deitstyler

Yes

[deleted]

Agreed a loved survivor so a gave this game a second chance once a completed and a really like it.

Ringadean

I love RPG’s. HL is more of an open world adventure game than a true RPG but super enjoyable. The combat is intuitive and fun, great soundtrack, exploring hogwarts is like a warm blanket and the progression is pretty satisfying. If you like Harry Potter, you’ll love the game.

woahhchan

Just started it yesterday and I’m addicted!

banananananbatman

I was skeptical at first but now addicted. This feels like a fun and easy to pick up game for a casual or hardcore gamer. So many fun surprises and secrets. Quests don’t feel repetitive.

Smart-Cash2525

Totally worth it

Bennyboii7

Very much worth it.

sporkjustice

I'm not a gamer. (ps4 sat vacant for at least 3 years) but I jump on almost every day for this one. Kinda reminds me of red dead redemption.

Apprehensive_You7871

Yes it is. The easiest mode is ridiculously easy as I barely die from combat sections and barely used any health potions. It's great for casuals.

baylorbears031

I tried playing the game when it originally came out. Just like you I was a fan of role playing games but knew nothing about Harry Potter. My wife was a huge fan of the books. I found the first book and decided to start reading. I’m currently on the 4th book and gave Hogwarts legacy another try. I’ve found that reading the book has greatly enhanced the game experience. I just finished the game last night and absolutely loved it.

UhhMaybee

I got it while it was on sale a couple months ago, and I absolutely love it. I’m about to play again, but definitely different choices. My husband really enjoyed playing too. If I wasn’t careful, he’d hog the game for hours 😂 I enjoy the same types of games as you. I think you’ll love this game. Your choices do have different outcomes, lots of customization options, and all sorts of different missions and side quests. There are also game options to just play out the storyline and difficulty levels. I played normal to get a feel for the game. It had been a long time since I had played anything on my switch, so I needed to work on my muscle memory again. If you do end up getting it, I want to hear an update. ✨

[deleted]

I've never read a HP book or watched a movie. I want too now, the game was beautiful and really fun.

GainIntrepid2837

Note that, it looks very good, it's one of the reasons why I want to play it

GuiltyySavior

Little to no replayability.

GainIntrepid2837

That's something to consider for me

TemplarRey

Loot is rubbage but the path to that loot is fun.

spacesuitguy

Game's worth it when it's not on sale! This game will probably get you into Harry Potter. The flying traversal is incredible too!

Witty_Kitty3

This was by far the best game I’ve played. Truly engaging and kept me coming back for more. I’m a Harry Potter fan (not super fan like some) but I loved all the different things to play in this game. So much to customize and enjoy.

kenikigenikai

Honestly I'd say it's maybe 10-20% as good as things like Cyberpunk and Elden Ring. I am someone who typically plays games on 'Normal' difficulty at least the first time and I played HL on the hardest setting and still found it ridiculously easy from a combat point of view. As a big HP fan or fairly casual gamer you might get a fair amount out of it but I wouldn't reccomend it to anyone outside of that. In my opinion its a game designed to sell well often to people that don't otherwise play many video games. The world is mid outside of Hogwarts, most of the side missions are very simple fetch quests, the side characters aren't amazing and the main character is pretty rigidly defined from the outset, so little room to decide who they are for yourself through dialog options. I can go on if need be. I'm not trying to slag off the game, but I think for an average gamer that's not a huge fan of the wider series it would likely be a let down. Maybe try watching some videos on youtube of the gameplay to see for yourself.

Danny_P_UK

I agree with all of this. It's like a my first RPG.

zeebrehz

No

DownInBerlin

This game is nowhere close to Elden ring, or Witcher 3. The exploring is super fun at first until you realize that the rewards aren’t there. Find a hidden cave or a secret room? Hoping it will lead to a cool dungeon or start a new quest? No, but here, have a random article of clothing. It happened again and again where you think you’ve discovered something cool but it’s just another stupid chest. I mean, potter fans appreciate the Easter eggs throughout, but it never leads to a great quest. All of the cool stuff (secret passages, quests) are basically fed to you by the NPCs. So exploration is unsatisfying. Also the level up system is stupid. If you level up, so do most of the enemies, so you’re robbed of the sense of satisfaction from leveling up. The spells and other attacks are tiny in number compared to Elden Ring. Hogwarts Legacy has like 34, while Elden ring has something like 180, plus all the different weapon attacks etc. The actual combat is pretty good in terms of controller responsiveness, so the battles are fun at first. But they become very repetitive. The loot is randomized. And it’s just clothing for the most part. It’s fun to try on different outfits, sure. But it’s nothing like finding a suit of armor, a special weapon, or a smithing stone in Elden Ring. And the joy of finding a special item in a special hidden place is gone. The Elden Ring subreddit is full of posts talking about where can I find this special weapon, how to get there, but that joy is missing here because it’s all randomized and inconsequential. The achievements in HPL are so so repetitive (solve a zillion variations of the same puzzle to get a minor upgrade). At first the puzzles are cool, but they get old quick. I’ve read all the books and loved the movies, and definitely enjoyed the first few hours of the game. But part of that enjoyment was anticipating where they were going with all this. Answer: nowhere interesting.

PFic88

You're going to be disappointed

erebostnyx

It's 40h of good graphics. 10 of which are doing repetative tasks to have 100% completion. The story is seriously lacking. Your character is basically a dark wizard, killing poachers and goblins and deflecting blame on Ranrok bc he did bad stuff as well. It is worth it if you are a poterhead. If you are not, it's a waste of money. Go for Baldur Gate 3.

accio-potter

yes absolutely

Shirokurou

It's nothing like 2077 or Elden Ring. It's closer to Assassin's Creed or Ghost of Tsushima. Missions can be quite varied and have some of thr best puzzles I've seen in a while. Def recommend. In terms of customization, there's a ton of loot and wand looks.

Danny_P_UK

It's not as good as Ghost of Tsushima. That game is stunning. HL is a bit wooden.

Shirokurou

I meant exploration style.

Danny_P_UK

Hmm disagree. The wind showing which direction to go in is *chefs kiss*

Shirokurou

Book pages and butterflies. The influence is apparent.

Sad-Entertainer-7662

Absolutely 100%

chudeypatoodey

You should buy it, especially if it's on sale. It has some issues, but it's a visually beautiful game and fun to play for the most part. Worth it imo

CreativeCritter

I am not a massive gamer. But this is fun. Easier nough, and heaps of help from google if you get stuck. Easy and sip.e, but entertaining

paulieD4ngerously

Yes.

No_Comparison6129

If you're into RPG with cool missions and customizable characters and gear then this is definitely something you'd like. The nice part is that there really isn't much connected lore to Harry Potter or Fantastic Beasts. This game is its own stand alone story. There are obviously connections to the universe and call backs to things fans will remember but you don't need to know much about the universe to enjoy the game realistically.

mousedroidz21

I've never watched or read a harry potter film or book. That being said I am currently playing through Hogwarts Legacy. Its a really good game with a unique combat system. I would recommend it. If you enjoy playing it then you'll also really enjoy Elden Ring, Fallout New Vegas and The Witcher 3

ruthio21

I think this depends what console you're buying/playing on - if it's the switch, I'd advise to wait til you have a playstation/xbox or steam on computer as the quality of the game is reduced on the switch. But if you have one of the other consoles, definitely! The world is beautiful! There'll be some things that'll go over your head as they're things mentioned in books/movies, but for the most part, the characters and story explain things to you.

gilbobrah

Overall it’s good, it’s a watered down rpg but the combat is super fun and amazing animations, I’d say get it.

WeganWednesday

Yes

Feisty-Equipment-691

Absolutely worth it!

evryksbgnswthq

Get it. It is a really fun game

OceanHoles

It’s a good game, I played it on ps4. I’m sure the Ps5 version is improved overall but I couldn’t justify paying for the same game twice. Very fun though.

Disastrous-Refuse141

I just bought it a few days ago, and I'm having a blast! I can already tell that there's gonna be tons for me to do and discover!

lifelesslies

Its super lacking in content but its pretty.

lospettro187

If you like Harry Potter just do it even if you don’t like Harry still a solid game

PainOfDemise

It was a great game. Do it.

Shot-Operation-9395

Tremendous gameplay, worst optimized game ever I've played, bought it few weeks ago and I wish I hadn't

Radiant-Mushroom8304

No tbh it’s not that good

Legitimate-Pumpkin

I didn’t play Elder Ring but heard it’s amazing. I don’t think HL is suuuch a good game. It’s pretty and nice if you like ⚯͛ but if you are asking, it’s probably not for you. I’m enjoying the breath of the wild and tears of the kingdom more.

Mobile_Lime_4318

Yess 100%!

Weather-loaf29

I just bought it because of the sale a few days ago, and I’ve barely watched any of the Harry Potter movies. I’m enjoying the game!

Danny_P_UK

I've just recently got it. About me. I'm slightly too old for the whole Harry Potter thing, I was a teenager when the 3rd book came out. The fandom gives me the ick. Grown adults shouldn't be obsessed with kids books it's just weird. Much like Disney adults. That's me, so you can take this as someone who doesn't particularly like Harry Potter, it's a thing that exists but I don't get the hype. The game. I like it, it has a lot of things that I enjoy in games. I mainly play open world games. I'm a bit of a completionist so I don't mind the whole collectathon thing. What I will say though is that it has all the elements of a good RPG but nothing is as deep as it could be. It's like they put in everything that should be there but never really developed it. For example you pick up all these clothes that you can sell and upgrade. Some are rare. However, you can only sell for 4 different prices based on a colour. You can make loads of potions, grow different plants, collect ingredients but you can't sell any of them. Each ingredient is only used for 1 thing. The other main thing is the complete lack of any repercussions. Like don't give me choices in a game if they don't mean anything. I will say though that the combat is fun even if the spell wheel is awkward. I also like the amount of different things you can do. TLDR, buy it, its worth it. But don't expect the level of depth you would expect from this type of game.

tonelander

Best 20 quid I spent at cdkeys for a long time

Imaginary-Slip9982

You're gonna love it. Give it a go. Decent replayability, GREAT storyline, absolutely other level environmental realism. No complaints about any of the interface systems or controls. If we're talking BG3, I've got some SERIOUS complaints adding up.

imyourrealdad4evr

It's a mid 2000's 3d MMO without the m, m, or the o. Very linear for an open world. Caves and dungeons feel and seem meaningless. The map size could be better. They compensate for the size of the map by sending you from point A to point B in a squiggly zig zag line manner. The castle is small and annoying to navigate sometimes. Not much going on there except for the 90's style collectothon but in 3d (think Denis the menace, but in 3d). The game play can be described simply as "the movie, the game!" (As many games are now). That said. There's something about this game. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't enjoying it. Tons of room for customization (could be a bit limited at times though). It's enjoyable to navigate the overworld. Combat can be fun, too. The quests are pretty repetitive but still enjoyable. One thing I really hate are the controls: For mouse and keyboard, youre a little limited with what you can change. And for gamepad? Forget it! Can't customize that shit at all for PC UNLESS IM WRONG! And if I am... Please... Somebody teach me... If you're looking for an easy casual game to spend some time on, it's a bargain. If you're looking for something really immersive and really in depth, then maybe settle on something else. That's just my opinion. Still playing it.

SassyChemist

The game is great, however consider whether you want to provide money to a known TERF.

Humble_Ad7025

It’s worth it, but after you’ve played it you’ll be longing for more, of which probably the only be coming

Sweet-Bread5447

we got it at a tiny discount, it is worth every penny my partner, who isn't a ganer, played it every day for 2 months.

MsGiry

If youre a massive gamer youll be underwhelmed. This game was clearly made with the intent of the average joe harry potter fan and not hard core gamers. I played this game post finishing RDR2 and was felt vERY let down. But I realized- I was projecting how much more little things I wished I could have from this game. With RDR2 I always go back and find something new, with HL you get what you get and often its repetitive and stale. Generally? It was still fun and absolutely worth my time, I loved the world a lot. I just desperately wish there was more time given to this game. It was clearly rushed to shelves as soon as it hit bare minimum requirements

Comprehensive_Tip310

I just got the disk off eBay for 20$. I've got maybe 15 hours in. It's alright. Feel like it's over hyped. Put my expectations high and I've been pretty underwhelmed. It definitely needs some refinement imo. It's more story driven vs combat driven. You'll find yourself running around most of the time. Not quite as much fighting as I was expecting. Some puzzle solving. But it's a lot more exploration than anything.

sheeatsallday

The game is good, but don’t expect good storyline

chaos_given_form

Game is ok it felt tedious quickly and make me just want to finish the game

beauner69420

Honestly I wouldn't get it in your position. It's got good parts for sure, like satisfying combat and nice scenery. But the open world gets very repetitive very quickly, and the story is pretty bland.

Mill-Man

If you are not a harry potter fan, it’s not worth it

gianoooos

Tbh I think the game feels very empty. Yes exploring hogwards and hogsmid can be fun but i feel like it gets very boring and one sided very fast. Same with the combat. Yes it looks fancy but even on the hardest difficulty its just not challenging at all and i feel like after 2-3 hours you saw like 90% of the fightable ads. Its also super repetitive outside of the enemy’s. Every single side quest is just -> talk to npc -> search something or kill an enemy -> talk to npc again. There is only one single sidequest which is worth the time imo. If you love harry potter i would go for it but if not as you said i do think it is not worth the price at all. I do believe there are so many better, more interesting and enjoyable single player games for example Elden Ring or DS 1 & 3 which are worth every single penny. Super overrated game imo

aline9217

If your not a fan of Harry Potter, I wouldn't recommend it. I was so excited to play that game as I am waiting since the Playstation 1 HP games for new ones and thought that an Open World RPG style game would be probably perfection. Well, it isn't :D The world is designed beautifully but that's it to be honest. As somebody who played Assasins Creed Valhalla, Witcher, God of War, Ghost of Tsushima and the likes I was pretty fast bored by the game. Combat is not challenging at all, the world is really big but so empty and the story is also not the best. The only thing that kept me playing was the Harry Potter nostalgia. Still hoping that someday a RPG versed studio is creating a better HP game :D

It's a stunning and engaging game in the first 5-10 hours. After that it falls off a little store-wise but is still really fun otherwise and theres still a lot to discover in the world (mythical beasts, ruins, flying around the world and exploring, fights). For me that was like 50-60 hours of fun gameplay until I was done with most of the storylines The combat is great and diverse. You can really find your personal style with it. Especially compared to games where you can only choose between sword and dagger or something. Traversing the map is also great. You can't climb around as much as In other games but you can fly brooms and beasts. I found myself barely using the fast travel option. Late game/ 100%ing it gets really boring tho, cause it's the same 3 puzzles over and over.

In a sea of positive things I'm bringing the opposite. I quit playing after around 40h. When I play a open world rpgs there are 3 things that nerds to be present: exploration, combat and story. This game does the exploration alright. There are a lot of things to look for, but they tend to be repetitive. Nevertheless going around in your broom is fucking enjoyable. Combat. Again, it's alright. At first seems very enjoyable, but then it just gets repetitive and boring. Story. The deal breaker for me. It's bad. I quit playing because I couldn't even care about what it was going to happen.

Frankly, even as someone who is a very big fan of the Harry Potter universe, I was quite disappointed by this game. In fact, I found that it had a lot of potential in its aesthetic (Hogwarts Castle is gigantic to the point that you easily get lost in it and it is very beautiful to visit). If you like to customize your character, normally you won't be disappointed, because there are quite a few clothes to buy or find in hidden chests throughout the map. It's quite cool to explore every corner of the map, especially the castle, because there are hidden passages, little puzzles here and there. You will also have at your disposal a large room that you can arrange as you wish, which I personally really appreciated and which seems to me to have been well designed. If you are the type of person who wants to complete the game 100%, you will be able to play for more than 60 or 70 hours. But the game also has a lot of significant negative points (that's my opinion but maybe not everyone thinks like me). The gameplay is quite poor and very repetitive. You have what we call "Merlin's puzzles", which are spread across the entire map. At first, it's a bit amusing, but once you get past the discovery it becomes redundant. First of all, there isn't really a puzzle, it doesn't require a lot of thought. Then, they are not super interesting and above all: THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF THEM! Personally, I saw these puzzles as a way found by the developers to inflate the lifespan of the game and give the impression to players that there was a lot of content... which is not the case in my sense. The side quests are very similar and are uninteresting (that's the impression I got), in addition to being quite few in number. For the most part, it involves going from point A to point B to do what the NPCs don't want to do (hunt giant spiders, bring back a pet, bring back letters scattered in a cave, etc.). But hey, we'll say that you always have something to do. The main quest is more interesting and some of the side quests are as well (those of Sebastian, Natty and Poppy) Combat can be fun but also become repetitive after a while, because it's always the same thing. You can also make yourself invisible but very often you still get noticed so in the end it's more "fun" to rush into the crowd. You won't have much initiative in this game. The majority of the choices you make won't change much, including which house you choose at Hogwarts. There are also 3 unforgivable spells that are supposed to send you to prison if you use them because they are completely illegal, but in the game you can use them at any time and in front of everyone! The fauna and flora is very little diversified. Normally, in the Harry Potter universe we have a lot of different creatures and plants, but in the game we have like 15 to 20 of them (animals and plants combined). In short, it's quite disappointing because we always see the same things. Compared to enemies it's a bit the same. They try to give us the impression that there are a lot of them but in the end it's mostly just the skins that change and they always have the same dialogues (the number of which does not exceed 10). In short, to conclude, I would personally recommend that you test the game, but wait for lower price or buy it on a website that sells it cheaper, like the French one "Instant Gaming" for example, it may be more worth it. (Sorry for my English, I used Google Translate 🫠)

Danny_P_UK

Bloody hell. Google translate has got better recently. I couldn't even tell.

Terrible-Package-642

You think so ? This past year I thought it was going worse 😂 I prefer using reverso now, but you couldn't translate such long text 🙄

Annual-Avocado-1322

"keep in mind I'm not interested in the world of Harry Potter" Nope

dissociated-chaos

It’s a good game but there is zero end game content. I love open world games, and while this one was amazing for the graphics and the fighting etc. I was disappointed with the lack of interest I had with it once I’d finished the story mission.

speedo-baggins

I think that if you're a fan of the franchise you will def get more out of this. I'm pretty indifferent to it and I can say after putting in about 10 hours that this gameplay loop ain't it chief, game feels super repetitive, most everything is so boring. your mileage will vary

forest_emperor

Honestly? No. It's not worth it. Even as an HP fan, the HL game was quite bad for me. The only truly good and fleshed out parts were visuals, and even then, they became boring and repetitive with the exception of Hogwarts itself. That's it, that's all the game has to offer you. I deeply regret paying full price for it. I'm honestly not sure if I'd even pay half off if I had to buy it again. There are moments in game where you can kind of start to 'zone-in', but in the very next moment something obviously unfinished hits you square in the face and you can't really help yourself but feel disappointed. The storyline is simply not captivating enough to help you ignore some major issues the game has. And this from an actual fan of HP world. If I can't get into it, I honestly doubt you'd be able to. Just before playing HL, I played the first Witcher game (EE) and I can honestly say that Witcher is better and the game is some 15 fucking years old. It's just disappointing as fuck.

RovakX

It’s a hoot. Get it! Don’t buy the premium edition, it’s not worth it at all.

Ast3r10n

If you don’t care about the Harry Potter world, you’re going to be very bored very quickly.

CheesecakeIsGodlike

I love single player story rpg's like the witcher 3, cyberpunk, and Kingdom come deliverance (i have ~ 700 hours in those combined), and unfortunately i found hogwarts legacy extremely medocre and too boring to finish. The writing is really bad and immersion breaking, the quest design is the same over and over again and pretty unintetesting, the world doesnt feel alive and finally the main story and its character are forgetful and unintetesting. That said. The combat is really fun and good, they nailed hogwarts and the game is beautiful and in the end i did squueze 50 hours out of it where I did mostly enjoy myself, and i dont regret buying the game. But it just cannot in Any way compete with the actual good rpg games there is. In the end its subjective, but thats my take.

AionX2129

If you aren't a HP fan no. I am a fan of HP and its just so boring a game compared other games that remind of it, i haven't even bothered to finish it. The story is probably the thing i like the most, but also hate the most for reasons i wont say to not spoil anything. The combat is just meh, the flying is ok, but it needs some work to be perfect and also theres no quidditch, which is super lame. The whole item/loot system is too random for my taste vs. games like assassin's creed odyssey where loot is random, but also fixed. The game just feels like a beta game. Like the stuff there is in the game works fine (mostly), but just feels like something is missing. If only it had been like ME2 mixed with one of the newer assassin's creed games or the like i would have loved it more.

chickencatchkitchen

If you don't care about Harry Potter lore, i don't see any reason for you to but this game. It's pretty much a ubisoft game, in fact, there are ubisoft games with better sidequests than this game. I think that the best thing about this game is flying around and exploring the castle. Even for a HP fanboy like me, this game falls short. If you dropped elden ring, i just can't see how you would like this game at all. This game is such a missed oportunity, they got the lore right, many things are pretty accurate to the books, but they didn't do anything with it

chocopeppermints

Harry Potter is my life and I didn't like the game at all. I got it for switch cause it was on sale and it's just sitting there rn

brotato_kun

The only problem is that the moment you leave Hogwarts, it’s generic at best. The open world is bad and there are so many repeated instances of the damn Merlin Trials. Combat is fun for some time but it’s the same flow in every goddamn combat encounter. Had to stop playing! The experience inside Hogwarts is great. Other than that it’s mid at best.

Regular-Bobcat7123

HOW TF are we to tell you whats worth it? If you aren’t into the world of Harry Potter or Star Wars why ask people who clearly are? This whole post is pointless and should be removed

Legal-Philosophy-135

You must be Really fun at parties, sheesh

Regular-Bobcat7123

I for sure know how to party but I try not to party with dumbasses who ask stupid questions

Cyberpunk is not a fail anymore, the game is rad

gianoooos

Should be illegal to compare Elden Ring to Hogwarts Legacy. It’s impossible to put into words how much better Elden Ring is.
