Xbox game pass does the same thing on PC. If you're being toxic and racist in chat, PSN can't ban your Steam account, only IP bans which won't work with VPNs. This is why Xbox makes you have an account to play any of their Xbox Game pass games also, So they can ban your account and force you to use a new email and make a new account.

I recommend just making a “fake account” email, that you just use for multiple things you dont trust with your main email but you do keep the email around

For the record, if you use gmail you can put a plus sign in your email address to make new burners. Anything after the plus is ignored by gmail. For example if your address is [email protected] you can direct mail to [email protected] The mail comes to your regular account but you can see which address it was sent to (and block it if necessary).

This was a day 1 requirement, it’s nothing new. It was removed when they had server errors 2 weeks post launch. I bought my copy 10 days after release and was required to link my PSN in game before I could do anything. It has zero to do with arrowhead, they signed a deal with Sony as a small company and are required to follow the Sony guidelines.

Just to add on, if sony finds out that you fabricated your account details you are legible for termination as per ToS 3.1. It's easy to say they don't enforce this but who's to say they don't in 6 months or a year's time. This is a risk you have to take.

They won't allow you to play the game if you don't link the account if I understand correctly. I'm sure Steam will allow refunds if they start preventing you from playing the game solo as that would be a breach of Steam's ToS >The effects of the game ban are determined by the developer, and must be consistent with a VAC ban, such as being prevented from playing online with other players and/or trading items for that game. It cannot prevent the user from launching and playing the game offline. It cannot prevent the user from using Steam. I just want to note that I already have a PSN account for my PS5 so linking was a non-issue for me, but 2/3rds of the world doens't have PSN and it is against Sony's ToS to lie about your region during account creation.

I also have a PSN and used it before I eventually switched to consoles, but with a clear intention of Sony to claim people are on the PlayStation network by forcing their games on steam with compliance is absolutely hilarious, since we’ve already known pc helldivers out weigh console players. I just don’t see a point owning a console in this day and age. I love how when I try to verify my email to make a PSN account it tells me it needs to be verified again immediately after I follow the instructions on the verification email. I've also tried making the account on different devices in different places in case of the wifi being weird but to no avail. Please help.
