Can someone pls explain what’s going on? I’m a bit out of the loop, I don’t own a playstation, am I still going to have to create a PSN account and link it to Steam? Is there any additional step on top?

schofield101

Yes, you need to make an account on PSN. It's free but region locked so a lot of countries can't make accounts without VPNs or lying about their location. It was on the store page from day 1 but not fully implemented now, strongly presume it's Sony forcing Arrow Head's hand here for some easy data.

1ndiana_Pwns

>strongly presume it's Sony forcing Arrow Head's hand here Idk why people are presuming this. The announcement was signed by Sony, not Arrowhead. It's entirely and undeniably a Sony decision

NoRiceForP

But like.... why? Doesn't that mean they make less money? How does using PSN end up with them making more money?

MonthFrosty2871

Invasive data collection to sell, and show off to stockholders. Publicly traded companies would skin you alive it helped their stock value go up, whether it makes money or not.

SupportstheOP

The thing that concerns me the most is how hands-on Sony might be during this game's life cycle. They've got a cash cow here, and this may be part one to forcing implementations of even worse changes (MTX).

Probably4TTRPG

Yeah I am concerned with how much of their soul Arrowhead sold to this devil.

Kyte_115

Pretty much all of it. That’s why the devs are so helpless and irritated and any sort of objection can cost them their careers. It’s a very very unforgiving industry

Unfair_Pirate_647

That's why PC players legitimately need to stand up now and nip it in the bud. Call in a review bomb stratagem now. if it goes through, call in a mass refund campaign on steam to destroy any profits.

ResearcherTeknika

Here's the code. ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️

McDonie2

Instructions unclear, house exploded after a plane bombed it from orbit.

Jerichow88

>They've got a cash cow here, and this ~~may be~~ **will be** part one to forcing implementations of even worse changes (MTX). Fixed that for ya. The moment this game blew up, blew up, it was only a matter of time until Sony's money-goblins in the shareholder meetings unilaterally decided this game needed to start implementing ALL the monetization. As far as they're concerned, if you have a product as popular as Helldivers 2, if you're not monetizing it to the point that people fucking HATE IT, then you're "leaving money on the table" - and after all, for the sake of the shareholders, we can't have any of THAT now can we.... This is absolutely just the first step of many.

Jerichow88

Exactly this. They didn't give a shit about this game until it blew up in popularity. Now Sony and their shareholders see "money left on the table" by not completely, and entirely gutting this game and giving it the full AAA experience of being forced to implement every one of their garbage monetization tactics, and harvesting your data like a crop through their in-house network is just one such way of "generating recurring revenue streams" out of players, by tracking them, collecting their data and metrics, and selling it to the highest bidders. Seriously fuck this entire timeline. Can't even have a single fun video game to play anymore without some shareholder and their pet corporate executives coming in, jamming their fingers in every pie in sight, ruining the product, and leaving once its value has been extracted and nothing is left but an empty, sterile shell of what was once a good, fun game.

Snoo-46218

Fall Guys Epic Games is a prime example of that.

CaptainPandemonium

Ain't nothing like showing the shareholders an extra 250k+ throwaway accounts meant for a singular purpose. Surely these players will purchase potential Sony products in the future even though they're all named "helldiveraccount0117", filled out with fake information, and only ever have connected to one game service for the past quarter!

Colonel_Grande_

Why do people suddenly give a shit about data collection. By this logic why use Google? Or Steam? Or even own a phone?

HipoSlime

Its less the data collection and more making multiple countries unable to play the game since they literally cant make a PSN account without a VPN, which comes with its own risks of banning. Also the inconvenience of making a PSN account I guess.

glockops

Next time the PSN network goes down for 31 days straight and you're unable to play Helldivers you'll be back.

Leovaderx

Personally? Not a player yet. I usually dont care. I like google, its free, they can take what they want. Here, its a principle thing. Being sneaky about regions, delaying the requirement, data for no benefit, corp bs. Tldr: Bs is fine, but theres a limit.

MomsAgainstGravity

The point is to fight it as much as possible, because this data gets sold largely to disingenuous people who use it for no good, identity theft, etc, you should always care a out your data and do your best to secure it, that may not always be possible but why the fuck does a video game company need my data? Answer it doesn't

iAmBalfrog

Sony at the end of each year will report any good performance indicators for the company - Consoles sold - Exclusives sold - PSN+ purchased And last but not least - Amount of new PSN accounts Plenty of people playing HD won't own a PS5, but this forced them to create a playstation account, a sudden influx of a few thousand/tens of thousands/hundreds of thousands of PSN accounts will be a great KPI to achieve, for little to no physical cost, just reputational cost. It's worth noting I believe games like Minecraft, Rockstar also do this (log into a separate platform to play on steam). It's scummy to do a change after release.

greedboy

the number is there on steam. Why does the number have to be internal? Imagine if this change is only because they wanted a number to go up on some c-exec's stupid integrated dashboard

glockops

Congrats! You've just earned an honorary MBA for discovering how business executives run companies.

ilovezam

> Imagine if this change is only because they wanted a number to go up on some c-exec's stupid integrated dashboard It really probably is, unironically, I can't really see how else it could be beneficial to them. (I know they said something about about anti-cheat, anti-grief, that part is obviously a lie)

iAmBalfrog

The exec who gets a bonus based on the growth of PSN accounts year on year does not get a bonus based on how successful a sony published game does. They are likely removed from each other, they are two separate roles. One has to decide on the UX and draw of PSN accounts, social features, achievements, ease of sign up, rewards of sign up, engagement scores, the publishing house doesn't care for these. >Imagine if this change is only because they wanted a number to go up on some c-exec's stupid integrated dashboard It will be on a dashboard, and a QBR slide deck by the end of next month, the exec who still calls the internet "the interwebs" will not know that the uptick in PSN accounts is due to no good work from the VP in charge of PSN. And the VP (or likely the middle management under them) will have to hope their performance quotas for next quarter/year aren't based on this sudden spike of accounts.

ICantBelieveItsNotEC

Modern businesses aren't about making money, they are about demonstrating growth. This change allows them to brag about an x% increase in monthly active users in their quarterly earnings call. Investors look at that statistic and see growth, which increases the business's paper valuation, pushing the stock price up. If the stock price goes up, their existing investors get to sell for a profit.

PeaceTree8D

Puts people on their platform; then a few people would start using the psn for whatever the fuck it does

mrureaper

faking your location to make an account can be banned as well, very nice move sony let's see how this pays off...

KermitIsDissapointed

Russian PSN users have been faking their location to show up in Turkey since the start of the war with minimal obstacles as far as I’m aware, though this could just be Sony turning a blind eye to it to retain the cash flow.

gasbmemo

can i fake my location to ask a refound if i set it to a place where psn isnt allowed?

mrureaper

Idk even my country doesn't exist in their list ( mauritius) but I remember using a VPN to make a us account . Might have to find it or just try and recreate one and just set the region to Europe or something see if it works

whateveridk2010

Doesnt matter if its free its still fucking stupid.

notsocharmingprince

I don't want a fucking PSN account, this is bullshit.

Specialist_Growth_49

And thats all the reason we need to refuse. It was fine for 3 months. Had they enforced it from day one i would have just taken my refund.

No-Description-3130

I \*think\* It was implemented day one but very quickly relaxed due to the server issues and they communicated this as a temporary position. I am unsure why everyone is raging over this since the requirement is still very clearly on the store page, I wouldn't buy a game that said "PSN required" If I was in a country that didnt allow PSN if I weren't willing to do some personal info shenanigans

TransientMemory

Allowing the game to be purchased in countries where people can't have a PSN account without falling foul of PSN ToS seems like the big issue. AH and Sony might be opening themselves up to legal action. Particularly, there's some smaller European countries where this is the case and EU protection laws might be able to be used against AH/Sony. In general, the bad press this could create might tarnish the goodwill people have towards AH. That in and of itself, even without legal problems, could be a major stumbling block for the game going forward, and that could affect all players.

Knjaz136

Yep, this is my case. I'm from Baltics, I cant create PSN account without breaking their TOS. Still part of EU, though.

xilsage

It 100% was still on for about 2 weeks post release, I started on ps5 and picked it up on pc the following week and it was required when I logged in the first time to link to my PSN. At first I was worried it wouldn’t work because it was already linked to my ps5 version but it worked just fine.

Spookymushroomz_new

Quick question is it cross save? So if I buy it on my pc I'll keep all my stuff from the PS5?

xilsage

Nope, I have it on both and they’re independent of one another my pc Diver is level 96 and my PS5 one is like 12, linked to the same psn account, no warbonds or super citizen or anything transfers.

Spookymushroomz_new

Ahh shit.. was hoping it would be the same. Hopefully they will add that in the future

AFerociousPineapple

Yeah same here, really wasn’t a big deal, just set up an account with PSN then carried on with the game, google and Microsoft already know everything about my life and habits I don’t see what Sony is going to get from it that they don’t already see lol

BarrettRTS

> I wouldn't buy a game that said "PSN required" If I was in a country that didnt allow PSN if I weren't willing to do some personal info shenanigans Steam can limit sales of a game depending on where the customer is from, so Arrowhead could have put a limit in place to not sell to countries that didn't have access to PSN support. If the intention was to only have customers in those countries, they could absolutely have enforced it on their end.

NK1337

I think theres a valid argument to be made about how the “requirement” was all but nonexistent despite what the steam page said, and because of that a lot of players whom normally would not have purchased the title or otherwise refunded it once they realized they couldn’t play now feel cheated.

Dr-Crobar

probably because they readily sold the game in places where they most definitely know PSN isnt available, and dont default to the "buh buh VPN" bullshit when its literally against their own TOS. Sony is evil, stop being a bootlicker.

simon132

People are complaining because the game clearly functions without PSN, I have my steam friends and play online. Having a PSN account is just a scumbag move. They should have blocked from the start or don't implement at all, it's just Sony wanting to sell my data when I already gave them money for their game. It's like a drug cartel "you belong to us now"

Kurotan

I have mine and linked it day 1. If you're going to force it, at least let me unlock trophies for my Playstation account. Anyways, grounded forces us to use a Microsoft account and sometimes this just prevents login from working entirely on occasion. I play these two, but in general third party accounts make me avoid games because they cause issues. I'd by so many of the old EA games if they didn't require it. But they do, so I won't buy them.

loadsmoke

PSN linking will be mandatory may 6th. It’s always been part of the TOS when you bought the game but do to technical issues they didn’t force you to do it. PSN is not available in every country that the game has been sold in. Meaning those people who have been playing all this time without linking will be unable to play. So you have people saying if we have been playing without it why need it now. Others who will legit not be able to to play do to being in countries without PSN. it boils down to Sony being Sony.

ilikeburgir

No, literally what every other big publisher wants from you these days. Even microsoft for single player games wants you to log into their account on steam. You make a psn account, link it and thats it. Its probably for trophies, cross saves with console and backend information exchange in game so its all within their systems.

kamitachiraym

the problem is that a lot of regions don't have PSN, including mine, so we effectively can no longer play a game we paid for and have sunk so many hours in AND there is no way for us to even refund it anymore sure, the PSN fine print has been there since Day 1, but I never got a prompt for it and never noticed it was even needed - IF THERE WAS A PROMPT REQUIRING PSN I (and a good amount of the playerbase) NEVER WOULD HAVE PLAYED IN THE FIRST PLACE AND REFUNDED

Askorti

It being nothing new doesn't make it any less bullshit. It should always be opposed and called out.

TheGloomyBum

>trophies and cross saves Utterly useless for most people who only play on steam, and in no way needed to make it mandatory for all >backend information exchange in game Yeah because it's not like they've been doing just fine for months without whatever this is supposed to mean. A PSN account isn't needed for game data to be exchanged with steam players.

Wormholer_No9416

Please Dawg, I've just come from Tarkov and now this community is on fire too? I'm tired Boss....

FishdongXL

Damn, that's rough.

Gallbatorix-Shruikan

Yeah, I was watching Kerbal Space Program 2. Waiting for it to become more polished, and then the studio got laid off.

Otherwiseclueless

What, wait? Please be a joke. Edit: it was not a joke. What a fuckin' day this has been.

Ur_Girl_Suki

these are dark days for gamers.

Robot_Nerd__

And honestly, Helldivers was the beacon in the dark.

Ur_Girl_Suki

emphases on was.

WolfeXXVII

Yup ksp2, helldivers, tarkov, and league have all been doing dumb shit this week. KSP2 had a full dev layoff Tarkov is implementing 100+$ pay to win Helldivers we know since we are here And league decided to implement a kernal level anticheat that we have the source code for and is blatantly scanning your computer for images to sell info on(there is a meme they are scanning for your porn now). The anticheat is also bricking lower end machines which make up a large portion of league player base since it WAS capable of running on a potato before vanguard got added in.

LoliMaster069

That's rough buddy

Rinzack

This is way, way, way less serious than Tarkov’s insane bullshit imo

NeonFrogMilk

Yeah, tarkov was actually lying (about it not being a dlc) and false advertising. Actually illegal shit lol.

Rinzack

Yeah like if you're in the US this change is somewhere between a moderate annoyance (tbh I made a PSN account the first day I played since I assumed it was required then) to an unacceptable data concern (people who've been burned by Sony 3 times have a right to be mad). For non-US players it straight up sucks if you're in a non-PSN nation since you can't legally play the game and for them it approaches Tarkov levels but at least that was from the Publisher. Tarkov came from the Devs i believe and is straight up EA levels of scummy tbh

xXRobbynatorXx

I think it's more on Sony than Arrowhead. Bet they are pressuring for it to be fixed and forced. Bet Arrowhead would have left it broken.

StarCatCrusader

For Sony its so they can show hundreds of thousands of new PSN accounts....thats big in the quarterly projections. The potential surge in accounts is probably worth more to them than their portions of profit from the game sales. I doubt they will back down. By the time the lawsuits come in, that finance board will have their bonuses and move on to different positions anyways.

Nice-Entertainer-922

Shareholders really are the worst that can happen to anyone.

StrangeFloorCandy

Public trading eventually ruins everything it touches

Jerichow88

This is why I tell everyone, shareholder capitalism is the worst thing to ever happen to capitalism. Like, it straight up killed capitalism, and is now wearing it as a skin suit pretending to be it. Things were fine and worked great until someone came up with the idea of shareholders and publicly traded and owned companies. Now we have 'investment firms' or people who never worked a day in their lives whose only 'job' is collecting quarterly dividends and sitting on shareholder meetings telling executives to do what it takes to make them even more money this year than any year before. And if they don't, they'll sue the company for abandoning their fiduciary duty, pull their money out, and go invest in some other company that will do their bidding and make them all the money ever in the history of ever.

Littleman88

Cool, so they get a boost this quarter. ...What's their plan for green arrows next quarter? This shit's gotta plataeu at some point! We ain't making new people as fast as we used to!

ICantBelieveItsNotEC

>...What's their plan for green arrows next quarter? That's the neat thing, there isn't one.

Dionysus24812

Dip and leave obviously They're not gonna stay once they realize that they're cash cow no longer has cash to be made

chaoko99

This is sadly an observable pattern that goes back like 13 years Every single time somebody tries to play a game with PlayStation players and it does not involve them playing it on a PlayStation 5, Kenichiro Yoshida puts his fist through the drywall. It's so unbelievably anti-competetive that if you play fortnite on playstation your purchases made on other platforms don't carry over, and vice versa. This might not be the case anymore, I don't know.

whiskeysoda_

Sony being anti competitive? say it ain't so! garbage company demanding i buy a 500usd plastic box just to play their 30fps games, and now they pull one of the best PC games down to their level. disgusting

RickAdtley

OP said it was publishers, not devs, so yeah.

Highway_Wooden

If Arrowhead built the game around PSN expectations instead of the shit tier Unique ID that resets everytime you get the ID, then no, Arrowhead would want this fixed. Crossplay accounts still are finicky.

Much-Revenue-6140

You have the sony complaints department number? I know it won't do much but at least I can Lodge a complaint at Sony for a bit.

thecodybacon

Yeah just like the rest of the game lmao

StoneAgePrincess

Huh?

Flogic94

Its not about the fucking text that it is required. Its the fact that it was NOT REQUIRED. If it was required how tf have we been playing for months? And they listed the game in regions where PSN i banned. How are you still dickriding this?

Wraeinator

It wasnt required for the game to function, but required as in obligated deal in the contract or TOS or whatever

Lord_Artard

https://preview.redd.it/p8cm476337yc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9db1f4cfa5e25baa3fc841538a2a000f110b049a

Aethanix

no fucking way? oh my god sony you fucks

UHammer45

The key part here is “Sign in”. You are only required to *link* your PSN to your Steam account, never required to actually sign into the PSN or ever use it. So these statements are legally correct as far as I’m aware

Minevira

maybe in america but here in europe we have consumer protection

Weary_Resort_6793

Thank fuck for the EU. US-based airline tried to tell me to pound sand when my transatlantic flight was cancelled and automatically rebooked to the following day (spoiler alert, PTO doesn't work that way, I've got fucking bills to pay). The EU forced them to make me whole, and I had only asked for *some* compensation in my initial complaint! Americans are very used to shutting up and letting corporations tell them what's what. I hope more EU consumer protection laws make their way to the US, it's fucked up here.

pijcab

Broooo come onnnn wtf...

Flogic94

And even though they did that they sold it to countries where its banned

Echo418

So these contracts violate the GDPR if fulfilled, fun stuff.

OkSteak237

How?

Echo418

There needs to be a legitimate reason under the GDPR for handing over data. “We want the data” is not good enough.

StoneAgePrincess

What did I miss?

bestfinlandball

Imagine buying a game, playing it for months, then being told that you need to connect a separate account to keep playing, only you cannot make said account where you live. Now your options are either to stop playing the game you paid for, or make the account using false information about your place of residence, which could lead to a ban.

Yarasin

[Enshittification](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enshittification)

Neon_Fallout

Thanks for teaching me a new word

ObliviousNaga87

How many times do publishers keep fucking with good games.....

JuanAy

As many times as the consumer allows them to.

SpencerTBL21

Yup. As terrible as it sounds, gamers are the perfect communities to milk money from. They have no backbone. There is this ultra fear of missing out if they don’t buy something immediately, then there is another portion of gamers that have stupid money and have nothing else to spend it on. Then you have a smaller portion of gamers who use moms credit card for everything.

JuanAy

Gamers also apparently just love being stockholmed into licking company boots. Considering how often they blindly praise certain companies. I feel like, more often than not, most controversies like this are just people following the crowd. Especially with how quick they are to do a 180 the moment lip service is paid.

DianKali

Yeah, back to self published indie games and small publishers that don't force shit decisions on their developers

RCM19

Every time. The publisher's priority isn't to make a good game, it's to make good money. If making a good game worse means making more money, well...

WolfVidya

"Hey, how do we milk them even more from the game they actually bought?" "Oh, I know, make them surrender their data or lose access!" Every middle and upper management position in the current gaming industry needs to step on a lego.

kerouak

Lego is too good for these people. They need to step on a British AC outlet plug.

Low_Chance

They need to step on a contact mine

Pulpfox19

Some say a fate worse than death

IAmCaptainDolphin

I left this subreddit for one day. **ONE DAY.** Why is there seemingly always controversy surrounding this fucking game? I don't understand it.

ozzej14

I cant even create an account... Says server connection timed out. Great...

TrapYoda

I'm convinced that every member of upper management in the video game industry is an automaton plant 👀

Ok_Coconut_1773

A singular word: shareholders

Laraso_

You misspelled parasites

Ok_Coconut_1773

How is it that we the people of the world all seem to ubiquitously feel this way, and yet we live in a system in which this occurs in and beguiles every industry?

Jerichow88

Because money talks and bullshit walks. And guess who has the lion's share of money? Spoiler: Not us.

[deleted]

Greed, greed fucks it up every single time.

ConfusionSmooth4856

I like how I need to use a VPN now

Dr_Axton

My ping wasn’t that great before, I wonder if I’ll even get any with a VPN

Didifinito

of course you will you are gonna have all of the ping

Dr_Axton

I’m taking it all on me so you don’t have to. Remember my sacrifice, boys!

420xGoku

PSN fucked my brother and never called him after, and now you expect me to make an account???

lord_fairfax

PSN borrowed my leaf-blower and returned it with no fucking gas in the tank. How do you think I feel???

brayan1612

First Tarkov, now Helldivers... why are game companies so fcking stupid?

HedgehogInACoffin

What happened with Tarkov?

Haunting-Ad-3633

250$ p2w pack that gives what 130$ pack gived before.

CyanideAnarchy

You left out locking PvE behind that $250 edition.

Squeaky_Ben

It was fun while it lasted, I guess.

-_Pendragon_-

Greed. Sony has seen how popular the game is. So now, as an evil shitty conglomerate, it’s time to crush every penny from it. Cunts.

JustInternetNoise

It's a bad move, I'm not making a ps account. But they probably did it because sony has been up the devs asses to make a ps account required. So if anything we should be getting angry at sony not Arrowhead.

0235

Makes me think of all the embagos and talk points Warner bros forced on reviewers of shadow of Mordor (war?? Well the first one) so basically no-one did any coverage for it. It then turned out the game was incredible, but sold terrible as no-one new it existed due to the review embargoes and very heavily moderated review content.... Like.you would do for a game if you thought it would be received poorly.

FishdongXL

Don't even get me started on Battlefront 2. That game was absolutely incredible and I loved every second of it, but it launched with loot boxes which made a majority of the player base angry and they had to spend like 6 months fixing the game because of this one problem. Then, when it was at the peak of it's popularity, EA cut the support.

Monkinary

Battlefront 2 was the only online game I played for a very long time. Helldivers 2 has kind of replaced that for me (although I still get on here and there), and I'm not concerned about this fiasco in the least. It's a fun game, it'll stay a fun game long after the player count starts to dwindle, and I'm about 98% certain that Arrowhead will support this game much better than EA did. I feel for people who will need to use workarounds for the PSN stuff, but I'm confident that AH is going to try to get region affected players some due, if nothing else.

HospitalBackground30

The irony of Sony saying it’s for security, when they’ve been hacked multiple times. I’ll stick with Valves security thanks

TheQuixotic6

It should just be highly recommended but not needed, it’s working now why fuck with the money ? you don’t fuck with the money

Zarvillian

It’s like they are allergic to money

Remnie

Oh, absolutely they are not. They have just decided that this will get them more money than they will lose from angry players

Ur_Girl_Suki

Me watching Cooperate Greed and terrible decision making drag down another good game: https://i.redd.it/sn89d3qik8yc1.gif

BADJULU

More like gamers when it’s time to Karen

tarknob

greed simply, they made thier money and now its in their best interest to get you to stop playing to lower server/ operating costs. someone is welcome to give a better reason but ive yet to see one

InfectedTentacle

SONY got greedy for private user data, EU is about to kick SONY in the balls.

Kalwest

Worst decisions lmfaooo

DarkSeieah

I guess being too poor to buy helldivers was a blessing in disguise. at least EDF is releasing soon.

The_DigitalAlchemist

This is bad. It's all very bad. If Sony can get their claws into HD2 proper, they stand to make a LOT of money for almost no work and risk losing very little in the process, and that never ends well. Keep an eye out for half ass compromises. Companies have been doing this kind of thing more and more and the common follow up to this kind of maneuver is to back peddle half way in order to seem like they're being "cooperative" and "Listening to feedback" and most people will settle for this. Propose something over the top that even the ardent fanboi's will stop to point out and go "WTF?!", then pacify them with a counter offer that was always their true intent which is still bad but not as egregious.

SShift_Gaming

time to move helldivers out from PSN. microsoft welcomes you

reboot-your-computer

Wait until you find out that Microsoft also requires account linking for games hosted on Steam.

Zodrar

Straight accurate lol

Reesemonster25

I think what is sad is we may lose some divers over some people getting region locked out of making a PSN account and some might rage quit over this decision.

Deadnation800

Sorry AH but sony f*ck it up

So_Big_7i2i

News: Sony and Apollo propose $26 billion Paramount offer. Hmm Sound like they really need PSN number to look good to get the investment Money. ps; Hope I don't get ban for this.

Hootnany

Probably Sony getting triggered that steam is getting all the digital data from the platform

Hmyesphasmophobia

It was originally there, but it still sucks for people who just can't link their account or are in regions that literally can't link it without being banned from the game.

Elloliott

What if we just held a mutiny on Sony

harpoonO-O

its Sony’s fault, they had no choice, be mad at sony not arrow head

[deleted]

Despite all my criticisms of arrowheads balancing, I know this isn't their fault. They have no say and I'm mad at publishers. Once again, they get a good thing going and piss all over it.

TheFrogMoose

I'd like to put it out there that I don't think it's anyone at arrow head that's the reason behind this. It's gotta be a higher up at Sony since they suck and have been sucking for a few years now

Zavodskoy

First Escape From Tarkov, now this. Why am I not allowed to enjoy games this week

Accomplished-Dig9936

The game is kind of a broken mess, let's not kid ourselves. Really fun, but full of bugs, crashes, and wonky balance.

Advantius_Fortunatus

Oh yeah… it’s unsub time

PyrorifferSC

Are they at least adding cross progression for people who play on PS5 and PC? Because if not, then genuinely fuck Sony, insisting on data collection from steam users without even making it a useful feature for some

Shellstormz

Som1 pls tell me they will backpedal this

submit_to_pewdiepie

With all this drama if I buy a play station will the game be the same account on play station

Last-Current9228

It's those gold-plated glasses shining when the game attains success. Indie devs tend to realize that, once successful, it's time to make sure to ride that success and not disturb it. AAA devs tend to see the success and want to capitalize on it, sometimes destroying the game in the process. Whether or not you consider Arrowhead to be an indie company or not (they're not, IMHO), they're acting like a AAA dev. Granted, this account problem was issued by Sony, (but that's precisely why I don't consider them indie - if they were truly independent, they wouldn't have to cater to Sony but they also likely wouldn't have the funding to make this game).

McDouchys

It's not the end of the world, most likely will be fixed by mid next week. Way too many crybabies in this subreddit

jus uninstalled, not dealing with making a whole ass playstation account just to play after i bought this shit on steam the day it released. oh well, good thing there's manor lords and hell let loose

_Nashable_

What an L. This could have been handled with an incentive (like an awesome gun and/or armor set) for signing up with a PSN account optionally rather than forcing people to either create a fake account or stop playing. Also this is a miss by Valve as well. They have the power to enforce Sony only sold the game in the regions supported by PSN. I hope folks in the affected regions either get supported (unlikely in the time frame) or get a refund.

glockops

I just straight up don't understand the concept of publishers or labels anymore. Did Arrowhead have such dire cashflow problems that they needed a float? Publishers and labels just seem like loan sharks - or the worst type of venture capital.

TTV_xxero_foxx

Wait what's this about? PC players need to make a PSN account?

InfinityTheParagon

the only dev decision i really hate is when they force me to use auto aim and you can’t turn it off. shits not even remotely good but then the pc autists freak the fuck out like we can’t play with out it even though it’s far higher accuracy than mouse n key to play auto aim off and for some reason you get like 50 fuckin retards trying to debate you on why you should be forced to use auto aim like literally fuck u if u do that ur trash at everything u would die with out ur auto aim we know we know but that shouldn’t prevent me from turning it off i hate it not everything is about you and ur preferences i don’t ask for much in life but to not be forced into auto aim and don’t touch me with out the signal.

Northern_boah

Ima assume it went something like this: Executive: “since this game is going so well, let’s farm data and sell it to third parties for some easy cash! Anyone who can’t make a PSN account is probably in some 3rd world sh@t-hole anyway so we don’t care if we lose them, whadoyathink?” Employee: “I’m gonna agree so you don’t fire me.” Executive: “I knew it! I’m so smart!”

GREED

Sweetluups

I hope people don't get refunds for this. And since they are bitching so much I hope PSN makes them buy PS+

ballsmigue

Xodis99

How many other games require account linking that are still thriving. Quite a lot actually.

Unlucky_Bee_6178

When idiots don't realise it's sony's decision lol

-Nicklaus91-

Greed, just fucking greed. Instead of buying our info from Google like everyone else they'd rather have it for free since the game is popular. They just deserve to get hacked, gl Sony employees/PSN users, next round's coming.

Ketaliero

Big corpo scum

Salty_Ad_1955

Only good thing is that it doesn't work like a Microsoft account for fucking Minecraft, Damn thing locks up every time you log into a new device. It's been 4 years and I still have not tried to mess around that headache of an account

RamboBambiBambo

Simple. Publishers just love making dumb decisions for no reason.
