I think if you get a nice jewel toned Persian style rug and put it under the bed (make sure the rug is big enough to have a decent size border surrounding the bed), plus a fabric tufted headboard in a nice moody rich colour that would really delineate the sleep space in a luxurious manner without going overboard.
Great job with your space, it’s really coming together. I would definitely add some curtains. Your bedding and curtains could be the same color to tie it all together. Colors that would go well with black and brown are navy blue, tan or gray. I would also add some art to the walls.
Thanks mate, appreciate the help. What do you think about more statement colors, like a burnt orange? I feel like it could go well with the browns and the greens from the plants, as well as contrasting boldly with the black.
I’m thinking maybe I could do some orange wall art pieces with white matts and black frames, and then match the orange art with an orange rug or throw blanket on the bed. I really like colors that pop, although I understand obviously I can’t have too much in the room if it’s an accent color.
I could be way off on my understanding of this concept, but I’d like your input if you don’t mind :). Thanks for the help
I'm looking at the large wall space you have available too. You have a lot of wood on one side of the room, could be nice to bring that to that open wall as well. Maybe shelves, maybe a wood slat accent panel(s)?
Yeah that blank space is my background when I’m on zoom for work so I need to fill it up pronto. Was thinking bookshelf. Wood slat panels could be sexy too. I like that idea
I love the idea of orange (and maybe some green, too). Definitely go for that. But I'm wondering - in the current layout, is your bed blocking the closet?
Great question. It is not. The nightstand on the closet side stops the closet door from opening to the maximum swing, but it still opens very wide.
I'm also downgrading from a queen mattress to a full, so that should help free up a little bit of space.
Of course, happy to help!
I love the idea of a statement color, and burnt orange is a good one. That goes really well with the colors you already have in your room too. The wall color is black, right? This might sound different, but it would look really cool if you added black curtains (maybe velvet to make it look higher end) to kind of blend in with the wall. I originally suggested matching the curtains and bedding, but if you are doing burnt orange bedding then I would do a different color curtain. Just so you’re not overdoing a loud color like that. But if you are only doing pops of burnt orange, like pillows, frames, etc. then I think orange velvet curtains would look awesome! Hope this makes sense!
Really like what you currently have, mind sharing what (specific) colour of paint that is? In terms of suggestions, that wall to the right of the bed is looking a bit bare?
Color is Sherwin-Williams Williams greenblack. I was going for more of a very dark grey, but this color is almost pitch black soooo yeah.. little darker than I wanted. Also went with a velvet paint finish (slightly glossy) not knowing that matte finish is best for room paint. Was my first time painting, so lesson learned I guess. This color absolutely devours light.
As for the space next to the bed, yeah it is. That’s what will be in the background when I’m in meetings at work. Idk what to fill it with. Bookshelf? Hallway console style table with art hung above it? Idk
I think a bookshelf is a good idea, how do you feel about the wood ladder style of shelfs? Could put some books on it, maybe a plant or 2, a nice framed photo, other knick knacks you may have
Great, I was thinking of something like [this](https://Cayton5PieceTieredShelfhttps://www.wayfair.com/storage-organization/pdp/three-posts-cayton-5-piece-tiered-shelf-w002117446.html)
Bootiful! If possible id put the desk on the wall where your bed head is. And then put your bed head against the largest wall on the right. That way you won’t be looking side on at a desk when you walk in. But loving it!
Long live Flippa. Shameless plug here, but if you're curious, the Dolph print was made by a good friend of mine, and i didnt get close enough in these pictures to show it, but everything on that print is made up of Dolph lyrics. It's dope. Shes insanely talented at drawing and graphic design. I can dm you her store and you can see it up close if ya like.
Go to a place where you can buy art and go look at it. Whatever ‘speaks’ to you is the art you should buy…
The wall above/next to bed - wood slats if you can afford it
No rugs, get a bed. Get shelves on the ‘office’ wall as this will add depth.
Get matching curtains to the colour of the wall (something floor to ceiling and dark - maybe patterned).
Get a bedsheet in black and duvet covers in earth tones (green, brown, blue)
Don’t know about the dresser, I can’t see the difference
Got rid of the frame and the mattress is next. I’m moving down from a queen to a full to free up space. I did ask in my post what color bed frame/bedding could work. Any ideas?
A full is pretty small for one adult…and definitely for 2 if you ever…
I’d keep the queen and get a less bulky headboard and no footboard. That will save some space without sacrificing the ability to starfish.
Sorry, missed that.
If wood, then you really should stick to your established dark wood. Might be better though to try to pull in something black metal, to tie in the wall colour and that one wood/metal unit.

For bedding I’d do dark green
I would have left the bed where it is move the dresser across from it and your computer set up where the dresser was.
Your bed matches perfectly. I wouldn’t change it.
I would replace the carpet with some wood floor laminate and an area rug, or a darker carpet. I love the plants, the wall color (chefs kiss to the clean lines up to the ceiling) and the wood color. Nice work
For the layout, I'll give some thought to what you said.
As for the floor, I live in an apartment so I ain't trying to do all that and have to replace the carpet later when I move out lol
Looks good so far. I would make it so that the bed is under the window or on the wall that the desk is on currently. You could use curtains on ceiling tracks (IKEA) as partitions if you like, or a cool screen, or a bookshelf of some sort if you have room. Or even the dresser(s).
If not, I would put the dressers across from the bed and the desk where one of the dressers used to be.
Yes to curtains or bamboo blinds. You can get nice expensive looking curtains for a great price at IKEA or Amazon. Go for the linen look.
I am partial to a velvet bed frame in jewel tones, but those platform minimalist ones might be more your style. What is your style?
Jewel tones are deep rich colors like deep greens, oranges, purple, etc. https://www.housebeautiful.com/room-decorating/colors/g44521284/jewel-tone-colors/
Anyways… now that I have crucial information on your taste in art, would you like to be remotely helpful and give advice on home decorating?
I’ll post on r/krakengirlcapArtTaste when I’m curious about that. Don’t wait up for me though 🥱
Now that's helpful. For the large rug you're suggesting, should it just go on the floor behind the desk, or should it go under the desk as well as the area behind it?
Also, oval/circular rug, or rectangle?
All of your bedroom furniture looks like it would fall apart if I touched it. Especially the bed, consider upgrading the bed at the very least. You can’t even say you have art on the walls, you just put up cheap canvases hahaha. The whole room feels very cheap single male. You can’t learn style or originality, so you will probably be reduced to copying an aesthetic forever. Good luck
I don’t think you swiped far enough to make it to the after pics, considering it’s very clear in the pics that I got rid of the bed, and bought and set up some expensive and quality furniture.
I also asked about how to decorate the walls and what art I should buy, so I’m well aware that my cheap canvas is bad and will be replaced. I’m totally fine with people pointing out flaws in the room (I’m aware and that’s why I’m posting here,) but it’s not very helpful if you don’t offer advice after as to how to fix the problem.
It just seems like you skipped 90% of the post and rushed to tell me my art and furniture sucks. Thanks I guess 😆
I like it. I would not do any "pops" of color, myself. Stick with off white.
It's classy, moody and could be spectacular if done correctly. No drapes but upgrade the blinds.
Big rug to visually partition the room.
Should the rug go under anything or be completely exposed?
I think if you get a nice jewel toned Persian style rug and put it under the bed (make sure the rug is big enough to have a decent size border surrounding the bed), plus a fabric tufted headboard in a nice moody rich colour that would really delineate the sleep space in a luxurious manner without going overboard.
Very helpful, thank you
I agree with Historical. That sounds lovely to me.
Yes, what historical said. Maybe even 2 or 3nrugs. One for the bedroom area, one to set the couch on and another TBD. It's looking good.
Great job with your space, it’s really coming together. I would definitely add some curtains. Your bedding and curtains could be the same color to tie it all together. Colors that would go well with black and brown are navy blue, tan or gray. I would also add some art to the walls.

You done a great job so far! Where is that furniture with the plants under the window from? Ty!
Same question. Looks great!
Its an ikea 'Fjallbo' shelf. They have a few variations. I think they're sweet.

Thank you kindly. Are you referencing the positions of the bed and desk in the before pics or the after pics?
In the after pic
I love it all and shoutout to the Dolph poster
Yessss i knew the Dolphomites would rally eventually
nothing of substance to add. RIP to the legend Dolph!

Love that wall color.
Yay! slightly darker than i intended but I still love them so much more than the white walls. Glad someone else appreciates them!

What happened to your bed? You can’t sleep on a floor mattress. Get a bed.

I would get the same color bed frame. Just commented some feedback on a separate thread. Sorry didn’t see this before I posted.

Jewel tones are deep rich colors like deep greens, oranges, purple, etc. https://www.housebeautiful.com/room-decorating/colors/g44521284/jewel-tone-colors/
I like the desk, happen to recall where you got it?
It’s a Vernal standing desk

Yellow would look cool with the black.
What color is that paint?
Sherwin-Williams greenblack
TY
Just surf the web to find a look that you like. Then copy it to your best ability
Brother I’ve been pulling out my hair doing exactly that for the past week 🤣. ADHDer over here. Scatterbrained is my factory setting
In that case, you’ll need to set a time limit. After a little while, you have to make a decision or else nothing will happen
That could result in something great or something horrible lol. I guess either is better than nothing. Thank you for the help
Take out the male rap poster. It seems douchy but I’m a black woman. 😭

I would say put a decorative couch/seat and more refined art on the walls. Get a plush, large rug. And you need decorative curtains.
Now that's helpful. For the large rug you're suggesting, should it just go on the floor behind the desk, or should it go under the desk as well as the area behind it? Also, oval/circular rug, or rectangle?
