I’ve noticed a lot of streets don’t have bike lanes. Is sharing the road with cars a thing? I always try to use bike lanes and the road itself before riding my bike on the sidewalk
In Waikiki it is illegal to ride on the sidewalk (I have been ticketed), but outside of Waikiki you can ride on sidewalks I believe. You can look on Google maps to see where the designated bike lanes and routes are, but essentially every road is a bike lane unless it says no bikes, like the H1.
I would not try to bike in/out of Waikiki. The roads are not safe for biking, the bike lanes suddenly end, tourist drivers and locals are incredibly hostile to you taking the lane and they ticket you for riding on the sidewalk.
It’s quieter than parts of Kailua beaches now.
:( just go early in the morning.
That’s what we have to do to enjoy the beach anymore and we’re lucky we still have that.
I have no idea why they think they have to yell and scream and play loud music at the dang beach. Its just bananas.
Definitely here. This was my go-to beach for years. Greta snorkeling, too. You'll see a cluster of boats a few miles off shore -- that is Turtle Canyon. There is usually a turtle or two swimming around much closer to the beach. Don't go past the wave breakpoint, though. And be careful since there aren't lifeguards at that beach -- generally pretty safe, though.
Fort Derussy, even up to Hilton Hawaiian Village, is usually pretty empty. And Ala Moana, of course. Both of these beaches are super long strips that you should be able to find a spot at, no problem.
I'm usually concerned about being near a lifeguard, and I don't remember what that situation is like at Fort Derussy.
The little cove behind the Hilton Hawaiian. Whatever that lagoon is. Between Red Lobster and Dave's? I'm never in Waikiki, but those landmarks sound right.
Kaimana beach makes you feel like you’re not in Waikiki… jt towards the end of the Waikiki by the zoo but to be exact it’s the beach that you’ll find if you just walk thru the lobby of the old Kaimana beach hotel next to the outrigger. Thats where my family and I head to when we’re in Waikiki. But also kahala beach if beautiful as well.
Ala Moana for sure. Easy bus. Super quiet compared to waiks. I also made the mistake of living down there my first year. Things are much better now.
Get a bike and can go much further than walking in less time and don't have to ride the bus.

We really need more bike lanes I swear

Kahala
Fort Derussy
Yeah, I was thinking this area might be less crowded than the main part of Waikiki Beach.

Walk or bus to diamond head

Kai mana sucks. Don't come here
Worst beach in Hawaii, stop recommending it
