Im not saying the characters in the show would be aware of this but suddenly being coherent with energy is something that does occur with people near the end of their life from time to time.
Not gonna lie Glombo’s s01 BLISSTAKES made watching the show that much more enjoyable.

And the idea to spurn daemon was Otto, who wanted Rheanrya to be queen and marry Aegon, which would have
1. Prevented Deamon from being king, preventing a war.
And
2. Let Aegon be king (although he'd be king regent) preventing a war over Rheanrya being queen.
Otto would have the world become slightly more progressive while preventing bloodshed but Viserys rejected the idea, and Rheanrya grew too close to Daemon for Otto to have faith in her as a queen. Otto truly only ever wanted peace, he never lied to his king and yet visery's blindness (through the loss of Aemma) caused the succesion to be in doubt by the realm.
Daemon was as far from the saint as possible. He caused real problems back then and even later for Rhaenyra. It's not like evil Otto wanted to get rid of good prince.
And then what? By that point Rheanrya was the heir. Viserys had no intent on unaming her. Even if he has a male kid with Laena the realm would tear itself apart over a war of succesion. Otto was preventing that.
"I don't want a war over succession so I'm going to start a civil war instead and further piss off the common folk by murdering and imprisoning the opposition."
There would've still been unrest with Rhaenyra but it wouldn't have been war. It'd have either died down organically or, justly punish those who retracted their oaths and leadership of their house gets passed to the next.
Otto started the war he wanted to avoid and worse.

No one is on the throne due to ability to rule. He didn't put him on the throne because he is a good ruler, but because he'd be the most accepted ruler.

However, viserys would never unname Rheanrya as heir. So Otto married his daughter to the king so he can have his grandson marry Rheanrya. Thus Rheanrya is queen but married to Aegon whom people think should be the kind, and he is (kind regent.). If married to Laena it risks that plan. Then people would support laena's child to be heir, not Rheanrya, and war would happen.
