Waiting For Big Mo
For those that are unaware the episode is an homage to a stage play called Waiting for Godot in which it’s famous for nothing happening. So I completely understand why the episode got the reception it received, it’s one of my least favorite episodes too
When I finished watching IASIP, this was the most recent episode. Didn't hit so well then, but on rewatch it was just great. Dennis manipulating Dee and Mac, Frank thinking his gun is on but he's the one making the noise, Charlie not understanding riddles.
This is one of my favorite episodes. Like "The Gang Tries Desperately to Win an Award," it is a great Meta episode that kind of puts focus on what the IASIP is after many years running. Plus, it is funny af... "I feel like I was born in this game, and I will die in this game".
For me one is a fantastic, hilarious and entertaining meta episode and one is an extremely dull meta episode with nothing but tiresome talking where they forgot they're supposed to also be the characters and not just mouthpieces for RCG to ramble on their thoughts about the show lol. If you pretend it's just the characters talking and not meta commentary half the shit they say doesn't even make sense. The only thing I liked was the fakeout of acting like they were ending the show with the talk of giving up and the ominous music only to reveal the opposite at the end. But that really only works for one viewing.
Sooo glad I’m not the only one who feels this way. just yesterday I saw people saying it’s one of their favorites from that season. For me it’s one of my skips, and I love Bryan and Aaron!
Yeah same, breaking bad and better call Saul are big time favorites for me I watch literally every year. I remember that episode ending and feeling tremendous disappointment.
Lol I'd already forgotten about that one. What pisses me off about that episode is that they used their real life mezcal brand "Dos Hombres" instead of a fake one, so the whole episode is an actual "ad" for their celebrity booze.
Charlies song when being questioned by police and the complete lack of self-awareness as the gang concludes a song about trying to let them into the closed repair shop “If you look inside our soul sir, you’ll see that we’re white men” are both audible laughter moments for me.
I can't stand her. I was so pissed when I thought she was joining the gang. The only redeeming quality about that episode was that she left at the end.
It’s generally advisable to avoid anything with Mindy Kaling in it lol, save for The Office. And even then, the show is funny in spite of her being on it, never because of her being on it.
Her whole fantasy is just so ridiculously narcissistic, like how would being in witness protection ever turn into a TV show? 😂 somehow, even Charlie's cartoon fantasy is more grounded in reality.
This one didn't thrill me either. I usually skip it but watch it on occasion, if only for the scene when Charlie is lying catatonic on his back, staring blankly at the ceiling, and then suddenly takes a huge deep breath.
I really don't like the one with frank brother. People either love it or hate it, I skip it every time. Also, the one with psycho Pete. The gang sucks even more than usual in that one, to the point I can't stand them.
I'm a big fan of the Nior episode because...it's just written sooo well. The dialogue is really good. I often wonder how in the world a non native english speaker would understand that episode at all. It uses so much slang/lingo it must be weird. But ya i just appreciate how well it was done for the film Nior detective style.
And? Being a good singer isn’t necessarily a prerequisite for a Broadway actor. He was in a comedy, not a musical lol.
Danny can’t sing well, you can clearly hear his vocals were pitch-corrected. Glenn and Charlie can sing quite well.
The Gang Turns Black is one of my absolute favourite episodes. I also don't understand OP defending themselves from accusations of being sensitive, because there is nothing offensive about that episode (at least no more than any other episode). If anything, it's a "woke" episode about the differences black people face compared to white people
Waiting for Big Mo - Just not funny from start to finish
The Gang Broke Dee - oddly enough I just thought it too cruel a joke, even for the gang
Frank's Brother - it didn't resonate with me, though there are a couple of good jokes in there
Charlie's Home Alone - Same as Frank's Brother
Whattttt? I love The Gang Broke Dee no matter how many times I watch. One of the all time Dennis moments when he is distraught they pulled one over on him too. “I love all this! I’m gonna pop out for a little while” will always make me cry laughing. Plus “And I’m a garbage man!….hes your garbage man”
To this day, still one of my favorites
Landslide is funny every minute of every day. The privilege to watch a top comedic mind work… I wasn’t alive for Carlin, but thank god I share the earth with Landslide.
I haven’t been rewatching the last two seasons so much, but the Bryan Cranston/ Aaron Paul one is by far the worst. Felt so shoehorned, which bums me out because I otherwise really like them. The last couple seasons have felt so disjointed compared to the rest though.
Also Frank Retires, the blood stuff makes me queezy.
agreed, that was my least favorite episode of last season and made even more disappointing by the fact it was one I was looking forward to the most. the running “thats Malcolm’s dad” gag fell flat for me, and that’s as a Malcom in the middle fan
I loved that episode, so that's a valid point. The nightman episode felt more grounded and related to the show/cast. The gang turns black felt like a parody to me. The nightman stuff had a build up, charlie and dennis were already doing wannabe band stuff before that episode so the progression to charlie's musical felt natural. The gang goes black just felt like it came out of nowhere. I liked the dance number from the high school reunion episode because it felt in character.
I understand what you mean. I think the out of nowhere thing is intentional though because the gang are reacting to it the same way we’re meant to (in OBM’s dream, that is) and they use that confusion as a meta commentary/critique on musicals in general. The reveal at the end that it was someone else’s dream kind of retroactively explains why it made no sense in-universe and most importantly negates the idea of the gang learning a lesson. It was a big swing for sure and I get that it doesn’t work for everyone, I just get confused when people say it’s specifically because of the musical aspect when like you mentioned there have been multiple musical numbers before.
That's actually what ruined it for me too. If it wasn't for that it might have been funny to me. I'm am extremely picky with musicals. Like, I can't stand 99% of them. I love the original Willy Wonka... but of course I was exposed to and became attached to that as a little kid. Same with Sound of Music. Later as an adult, Moulin Rouge wasn't bad. That's about it.
I’m like you I think, not big into musicals, they usually have to be comedic for me to dig them, and even then it’s hit or miss.
I don’t mind this episode, but it’s literally the songs that make it “meh” for me, despite me loving pretty much all the other music in the show up until that point. Maybe it’s just the style of the songs in this episode that put me off of it.
I love the music from Monty Python, Flight of the Conchords, South Park (Book of Mormon is phenomenal), Lonely Island (Popstar), and plenty others. I even kinda liked Schmigadoon.
Mac Finds His Pride for two reasons
1. It’s not funny. The only two characters in it are Mac and Frank, one of their least funny duos without a B plot at all.
2. I despise when I’m supposed to “root” for the characters. They are all terrible assholes and that’s the point of the show. While what Robb did for this episode it technically impressive is just not something I like from the show (similar to the scene with Charlie and his dad in Ireland). Also it came out of left field. First time I watched it I was confused if I was supposed to laugh and the whole dance scene.
I get this. I do like the moment, even though as you said the point of the show is that they’re awful people. but idk, I liked the fact that Mac was trying to grow. I agree about the Ireland episodes- I know a lot of ppl loved the moment with his dad but I just… didn’t care honestly
i know people really like this episode but.. Dennis reynolds an erotic life. I never found this episode very funny, even with the sinbad cameo. I cant really put my finger on why it doesnt do anything for me, it just doesnt
“Charlie gets an abortion”-God that kids annoying
The Ireland Episodes- didn’t seem like it really added anything different. Maaaaybe the bits with the castle were funny but these just fell flat for me.
The roller rink episode. Can’t even think of the name that’s how bad it is!
“The Janitor Mops twice”-The gross out humor and uncertainty if any of this was real or not. Sunny usually does a good job reminding you that these are delusions or fantasies in their minds, but didn’t really get that from this.
I got to The Gang Turns Black when I was going to eat while watching an episode, but the episode didn't strike as a good one for me to do that(One reason is that it's partially a musical, and I hate musicals). But it's a great episode and I enjoyed it all on rewatch.
Halfway through season 12 is the cut off for me, it’s just not as funny. I rewatch seasons 1-12 all the time and the only episodes I skip are liberty bell and shadynasty. The rest are all absolute bangers
The gang turns black is a top episode of you love musicals (which I do). If not I can understand it not being your thing.
I’m uncomfortable the entire time watching high school reunion episode(s), because it’s just so embarrassing. But the dance scene makes it worth it. That’s as close to an episode I “avoid”.
Just watched this episode last night and remembered how funny it is! I avoid the one where Charlie has to do all the stuff for the football, it's gold but I can't cope
Gang Turns Black and Big Mo might be the only two I skip.
Neither of them are really Sunny episodes, whatever that means. Really not a fan of musicals and I'm just not so good at reading to think anything about Big Mo is funny.
Like everyone else said, give it another shot, some of those songs are really catchy. Also on the podcast, Charlie said he wrote all of them in one day.
I skip Charlie saves the day, and the women beat boggs. One is super gruesome and not funny, and the puke scene on the airplane is just gross lol.
I'll be real. I'm a sucker for a musical episode. I know there's a lot of people who hate musical episodes, but I love them. Gang Turns Black is one I will never skip past lmao
agree with you 100% also on my list is The Gang Cracks The Liberty Bell. Most of season 13 also makes the list. Apart from Times Up which ironically is one of my faves of all time, and new wheels.
I usually skip Ass Kickers United. It just feels random. And I forget that guy's name--the famous guy--but he kind of annoys me and I don't find him funny
Yeah i don’t think that episode is terribly funny but i do think it was fairly well done, creative, and i like some of the songs. They’re light and playful like bustin’ a nut!
Yeah I avoided that episode. Seen it twice and I don’t care for it, takes too much political and racial issues into the episode rather than being funny or point things out as they typically do.
I can’t help but sing “What are the rules?” When I say it
Ziggy!!! Take me far from hereeeee
🎵 what, are the rules? 🎵
🎵 I'm gonna say the N word 🎵
🎵 when you just turned black and you cant (hand gesture) switch back 🎵
The one at the laser tag
Waiting For Big Mo For those that are unaware the episode is an homage to a stage play called Waiting for Godot in which it’s famous for nothing happening. So I completely understand why the episode got the reception it received, it’s one of my least favorite episodes too
Godot*
I like Samuel Beckett but the episode was boring and self-indulgent.
When I finished watching IASIP, this was the most recent episode. Didn't hit so well then, but on rewatch it was just great. Dennis manipulating Dee and Mac, Frank thinking his gun is on but he's the one making the noise, Charlie not understanding riddles.
Charlie eating bouncy balls.
Wonder Woman?
This is one of my favorite episodes. Like "The Gang Tries Desperately to Win an Award," it is a great Meta episode that kind of puts focus on what the IASIP is after many years running. Plus, it is funny af... "I feel like I was born in this game, and I will die in this game".
For me one is a fantastic, hilarious and entertaining meta episode and one is an extremely dull meta episode with nothing but tiresome talking where they forgot they're supposed to also be the characters and not just mouthpieces for RCG to ramble on their thoughts about the show lol. But that really only works for one viewing.
But they have the fun zone dolla dolla bills y'all
"Trying to get that paper son. Win, stay alive, get that mouniie"
Get that paper son. Get that moowney
Definitely my 2nd choice. I almost said it myself until I remembered celebrity booze exists.
I'm not crazy about it either, but I still like to watch it sometimes.
The fake power-up noise on the laser tag vest is such a wholesome moment
And franks pewpew pew pew
For sure. Possibly the peak moment of that whole episode.
Don't let Rutherford B. Crazy hear you talking like that
When Charlie and Dennis talk together there I always laugh
"tight little dumper" almost had me in tears
I love The Gang Turns Black lol. I also love Quantum Leap and Scott Bakula turning up just adds to how much I enjoy it.
I thought you were saying “Blackula” like a black vampire
Reminds me of a musical I have planned... Dr. Akula
He just bites your neck…
Stupid Janitor....
That would have been a funny line for Charlie to say
Also love the gang turns black. It's top 15 possibly top ten for me. The weird thing is, I can't stand musicals
What are the rules
I've literally seen it once and at this point I can't even remember what happens. I'll definitely give it another shot.
Oh I mean it’s fine if you don’t like it, I just personally love it is all.
Same. In my top 3 episodes.
I kinda felt the same way a few years ago and now it's one of my favorite episodes. Scott Blackula's song is one of the best moments in the whole show
“What… I’m black now, this might be my only chance to say it”
Why are you looking for a chance to say it?
Charlies song when being questioned by police and the complete lack of self-awareness as the gang concludes a song about trying to let them into the closed repair shop “If you look inside our soul sir, you’ll see that we’re white men” are both audible laughter moments for me.
The one with mindy kaling
This one made me appreciate Dennis. The episode is bad besides the parts where they’re talking about Dennis or when he’s in it at the end
All I know is the scene where they march in and Charlie is playing Dennis' asshole killed me
This is the entire point of the episode and character
That entire season was off
Not true. The Gang Gets New Wheels is great
I die laughing every time they kick the shit out of those kids
Exactly. Classic episode
The only time Dee reached the levels of Golden Godhood. Only to squander it with an underage kid.
TOOLS TOOLS! DUCT TAPE, ZIP TIES AND GLOVES I HAVE TO HAVE MY TOOLS!
good bot
[You're the one that's good.](https://i.imgur.com/HU2gkTB.png)
move past it
The ratio is off
My least fave episode for sure
I can't stand her. I was so pissed when I thought she was joining the gang. The only redeeming quality about that episode was that she left at the end.
It’s generally advisable to avoid anything with Mindy Kaling in it lol, save for The Office. And even then, the show is funny in spite of her being on it, never because of her being on it.
Mindy Kaling wrote a [ton of the best episodes of The Office.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Television_episodes_written_by_Mindy_Kaling)
Highly disagree about Mindy and the Office, she adds quite a lot in my opinion.
I think it’s called the gang saves the day. Not my favorite.
That's actually one of my favorites, particularly Dee's story.
The episode itself is only ok for me but Dee's story is an amazing 4 minutes or so of television
"Feet not to larrrge not to smaalll, BLOOONNDDEE HAIIRRRRR!!"
Groban likes his ladies to pop.
That's how babies are made.
Definitely not like a bird
Her whole fantasy is just so ridiculously narcissistic, like how would being in witness protection ever turn into a TV show? 😂 somehow, even Charlie's cartoon fantasy is more grounded in reality.
This one doesn't do much for me either. I think the funniest scene is Frank mowing on the hot dogs.
Frank cramming hot dogs in his mouth with all the shooting and screaming in the background is so funny.
The haircut one. It's really stupid. Not to mention Charlie and Mac's weird refusal to understand gender.
They've moved beyond gender at the bar
I completely forgot that one. It was horrible
Haircut one?
Womens right to chop
Charlie’s home alone
This one didn't thrill me either. I usually skip it but watch it on occasion, if only for the scene when Charlie is lying catatonic on his back, staring blankly at the ceiling, and then suddenly takes a huge deep breath.
I really don't like the one with frank brother. People either love it or hate it, I skip it every time. Also, the one with psycho Pete. The gang sucks even more than usual in that one, to the point I can't stand them.
Shady Nasty's?
It's Shadynasty's, asshole.
I love Frank's brother just because he's played by Jon Polito.
The intro to psycho Pete is so good. Mac and Charlie walking into the bar singing Talking Heads, but then the rest of the episode is just depressing.
The ones without Dennis and the janitor always mops twice, I’ve only seen that episode once
Yeah, it’s pretty skippable. I just love how they keep calling Dee “goon”
That's the film noir one, right? I need to give it another shot. I didn't find it entertaining at all when it came out and haven't watched it sense.
noir episode is one of my favourites. why dont you like it?
Some people love that episode. I'm with u I'm not a fan. And I've rewatched it a few times to give it another try but I just don't it
Maybe you’ve been….. Diarrhea Poisoned.
maybe I’m just biased because I adore film noir… it’s probably top ten for me, not humor wise but just as an episode
I love the Gang Turns Black. Give it another go
They're all good singers lol
Idk about Danny
The autotune on Danny makes it funnier lol
He's been on Broadway....
And? Being a good singer isn’t necessarily a prerequisite for a Broadway actor. He was in a comedy, not a musical lol. Danny can’t sing well, you can clearly hear his vocals were pitch-corrected. Glenn and Charlie can sing quite well.
Excuse me my kind brother🎵🎶
Can you lend a hand? 🎶🎵
The Gang Turns Black is one of my absolute favourite episodes. I also don't understand OP defending themselves from accusations of being sensitive, because there is nothing offensive about that episode (at least no more than any other episode). If anything, it's a "woke" episode about the differences black people face compared to white people
I like the Gang Turns Black, but I think it is just an homage to the Wiz, really.
Waiting for Big Mo - Just not funny from start to finish The Gang Broke Dee - oddly enough I just thought it too cruel a joke, even for the gang Frank's Brother - it didn't resonate with me, though there are a couple of good jokes in there Charlie's Home Alone - Same as Frank's Brother
I dont watch The Gang Broke Dee because its not that funny when you already know how it ends
Whattttt? I love The Gang Broke Dee no matter how many times I watch. One of the all time Dennis moments when he is distraught they pulled one over on him too. “I love all this! I’m gonna pop out for a little while” will always make me cry laughing. Plus “And I’m a garbage man!….hes your garbage man” To this day, still one of my favorites
YEAAAAA YOU BANGED THAT GUY!!!
He’s got all of his skin.
He’s probably gonna go kill himself!
Landslide is funny every minute of every day. The privilege to watch a top comedic mind work… I wasn’t alive for Carlin, but thank god I share the earth with Landslide.
I love Lavell Crawford
The Alexandra Daddario episode because that's just too painful
Yeah, that one... isn't great. The end is ok, but getting to it is a slog.
None of them, they're all solid gold.
The flashback episode of them working at the roller rink. Probably my least favourite episode of the whole series
What about Charlie tiptoeing in the skates? I laugh out loud every time I watch it.
that’s funny, that was my favorite episode of last season
Yea I didn't like that episode either, I don't hate it but I just find musicals annoying and cringey.
So Nightman Cometh is annoying too?
No, because that’s an episode about Charlie writing a musical, not an actual musical episode
Yeah but who was he writing it versus?
Dee, his feet?
They are different, one is putting on a performance, the other is a supernatural Wizard of Oz Musical episode.
It’s a dream sequence.
I'm aware, it's still supernaturally portrayed.
I love the music from Monty Python, Flight of the Conchords, South Park (Book of Mormon is phenomenal), Lonely Island (Popstar), and plenty others. I even kinda liked Schmigadoon.
The musical aspect of it is hard to move past
Mac Finds His Pride for two reasons 1. It’s not funny. The only two characters in it are Mac and Frank, one of their least funny duos without a B plot at all. 2. I despise when I’m supposed to “root” for the characters. They are all terrible assholes and that’s the point of the show. I love the game turns black, if for no other reason then the songs. The black and white noir episode is hard for me to get into tho
The blackface ones because Hulu has made that decision for me.
The Gang Turns Black is freaking amazing. Scott Bakula is the MVP of this episode, seriously. Episode I can't watch is Who Pooped The Bed.
but you miss out on dee running face first into a car and artemis's bleached asshole!
"Inconclusive"
That one hilarious. I’m gonna blast my nips!
I can't stand the gay Mac dance. I just don't GET it.
I kept waiting for the joke. It never came. It took away from the actual performance
Yeah idgaf if some dude is good at dancing in the rain or something I'm just here to laugh
It also goes against the main appeal of the show (these people have no morales and you should never root for them to grow)
How about the anal beads for hearing back from Johnny?
Frank retires because the blood is gross
Liberty bell
Oh man, I love that one
YyyYyYyyeeEeeEessSsss
Maybe give that one another try.
WHAT!! That episode is one of my favorites!
I'm not a fan of Frank's Brother and I don't watch the Christmas episode either. Just not my thing
i know people really like this episode but.. Dennis reynolds an erotic life. I never found this episode very funny, even with the sinbad cameo. I cant really put my finger on why it doesnt do anything for me, it just doesnt
The Gang Carries a Corpse Up a Mountain. Dead dads make me sad.
Being Frank, I wasn’t a fan of the first person episode.
Omg thats my go to for being in a good mood. I just love the songs
The 20s noir one. I just didn’t like the story
It's not 20s Noir, 20s Cinema was mostly silent. It's 40s noir, Bogart and Bacall era.
I'll watch it, but it is rather lackluster.
“Charlie gets an abortion”-God that kids annoying The Ireland Episodes- didn’t seem like it really added anything different.
I can’t stand the roller rink episode
Pretty much the entire season in Ireland idk wasnt really that funny compared to previous seasons and newer seasons
I got to The Gang Turns Black when I was going to eat while watching an episode, but the episode didn't strike as a good one for me to do that(One reason is that it's partially a musical, and I hate musicals). But it's a great episode and I enjoyed it all on rewatch.
The Gang Turns Black was a corny episode
Charlie's Home Alone. It's actually pretty repulsive at times, which is frustrating, but they can't all be bangers.
Halfway through season 12 is the cut off for me, it’s just not as funny. I rewatch seasons 1-12 all the time and the only episodes I skip are liberty bell and shadynasty. The rest are all absolute bangers
Who pooped the bed The gang cracks the Liberty bell
Oh man... strangely those are two of my favorites.
Yesssssssssssh
Mac finds his pride. I watch the show for humor and this isn't a funny episode
Only reason I avoid Gang Turns Black is because the tune gets stuck in my head. What are the ruuules....
The whole episode is great and Scott Bakula's song is one of the shows all time funniest moments.
I don’t like musicals in general so this one was a hard watch for me
You're insane, dude. That's the best episode.
The janitor always mops twice
Gang Turns Black and Big Mo might be the only two I skip. Neither of them are really Sunny episodes, whatever that means. Really not a fan of musicals and I'm just not so good at reading to think anything about Big Mo is funny.
i always skip over The Gang Gets Romantic
Like everyone else said, give it another shot, some of those songs are really catchy. Also on the podcast, Charlie said he wrote all of them in one day. I skip Charlie saves the day, and the women beat boggs. One is super gruesome and not funny, and the puke scene on the airplane is just gross lol.
I used to always skip The Gang Turns Black, and now I love it.

Yeah i don’t think that episode is terribly funny but i do think it was fairly well done, creative, and i like some of the songs. They’re light and playful like bustin’ a nut!
celebrity booze, or whatever the one with Bryan and Aaron is. Only saw it once and genuinely have no interest to ever see it again.
Mac’s mom has cancer. It’s sac religious but more importantly just not funny
Thats my actual favorite episode and not just because of Scott Bakula. Shame on you! 😤 Lol
Tbh? I don’t like the janitor always mops twice. It just didn’t feel right to me and I couldn’t get into it.
Charlie’s Home Alone. I’m not really into the whole torture thing.
Yeah I avoided that episode. Seen it twice and I don’t care for it, takes too much political and racial issues into the episode rather than being funny or point things out as they typically do.
The gang gets romantic. Mac and Dennis trying to seduce the couple who moved in while grieving their infant son. Bit too far there.
The gang turns black is probably in my top 3 episodes. Maybe I’m not ranking them properly? 🎼 what are the rules??🎼
The gang remakes lethal weapon
Franks brother. It just wasn't fun or funny
I skip all of them past season 12 besides Dee day from S14
That episode is amazing. Take a walk.
The Gang Hits the Slopes was pretty on the nose for me. It's a bit better the 5th time around.
I loved that one immediately.
Christmas episode, janitor always mops twice, mental health day
DIARRHEA POISONED!!!
