We probably shouldn't dismiss that there are huge cultural and societal pressures driving mental illness diagnosis through the roof in younger generations. These people wear their "illnesses" like they're collecting pokemon and the subjective nature of psychiatry allows anyone to be diagnosed with anything as long as they have health insurance and go to the right practitioner.
100 years from now people are going to look back in fascination that half of the population was convinced it was ill and needed medication for dysfunctional mental states. This isn't just "shucks, kids are gonna be kids", it's fucking weird and dangerous.
I choose to believe these people aren’t actually diagnosed or taking heavy antipsychotics under the care of a real psychiatrist. I refuse to believe that actual doctors would be that stupid and careless.
Hundred percent, my mother “psych dr,therapist” is supposed to see her at least once amonth for min 1 hour.
My mother is mentally vey deep depressed with other issues and the dr. Sees her for 10 min max over the phone and just keeps giving scripts too her.
Its just free money from insurance while my mother is getting worse and addicted to drugs from her, i tell my mother this lady is bad but shes from an era that all dr.’s are good and right. So in her eyes this lady could not do no wrong because shes a dr.

Sounds exactly like my doctor, closed during covid and never opened back up, my “appointments” are just on the phone for at best 5 minutes, never any longer but still cost over a hundred dollars, and just continually giving me prescriptions. I’m completely dependent on so many medications now, and I’m uninsured so I can’t even switch to a better doctor if I wanted to. It sucks, there are absolutely shitty doctors like that everywhere. I’m supposed to be getting actual help for some really severe mental health issues and all they do is slap a prescription on me and call once in a while for a few minutes yet still charge as if it’s a legit appointment. What great health care huh.

Diagnosis is only valuable when it’s used as an avenue to treatment.

Modern psychology is getting away from telling people you have OCD or you are bipolar. They say you have characteristics, or really in my experience they don’t even mention these conditions. They talk about learned behaviors and what we can do to work on changing them. And it’s because telling people you have OCD or you are bipolar is giving a lot of people a pass to go around telling people it’s okay I have X and therefore it explains my maladaptive behaviors and it’s okay that I don’t work on it.
And I’m sure medication is necessary in some circumstances but modern psychology is pushing people away from avoidance, avoiding emotions or bad feelings and pushing towards accepting and working. Medications and drugs and alcohol only serve to avoid the bad feelings temporarily while not working on the thing causing you issues. Big pharma plays a huge role in all this mess as well. The amount of SEVERE childhood abuse and sexual trauma needed for DID like symptoms to even begin is intense. This trend is beyond gross. Somewhat. Heavy very early childhood trauma could lead to DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder). DID causes the personality to split and each of the personalities have different roles.

Somewhat. Heavy very early childhood trauma could lead to DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder). DID causes the personality to split and each of the personalities have different roles. It’s a real thing but she’s likely faking it. It’s a very confusing disorder for the person dealing with it afaik.

Cringe aside, especially “asylum system”, this doesn’t belong on this sub nor should it be posted to get the attention it’s getting. “fakeclaiming”, etc I don’t think is deserved. A lot of these DID “creators” are in fact diagnosed. The weirdness comes from the community, where you are encouraged to be really oddly open and introduce alters like it’s a character selector.

I know this seems like she's faking it, which may be true lol, but I have a friend who is diagnosed with dissociative identity disorder with 16 personalities and it looks like he's faking it. Why? Because all those identities don't actually exist, it's just him faking to an extreme point, and it really looks very theatrical. Even if the woman in the video is faking it, it is still pretty worrying that she thinks it's a good idea to do it and this can very be a cry for help. Either way this video is sad to watch.
