IBEW Local 405 2nd year apprentice class project was to create a waving American Flag using 1/2" EMT conduit. The goal was to use parallel offset calculations to keep everything looking in scale.
The stars are couplings we painted white, as well as a few painted white strut straps in the blue field. I'm not sure what it cost, I think our JATC got the supply house to donate most of this material.
Of all the classes, I definitely think our's came out the best with double stacking the emt in the straps and taking the time to repaint them. Definitely a fun project
Just curious why you think the doubled emt looks better? Can you post one with single emt to compare? I've seen these before along time ago, never checked if the others were single or double. Not trying to offend
I like ours because having 2 under a single strap reduces the amount of negative space in the stripes making it look more solid. It's just a personal preference though, and unfortunately I don't have pictures of the other class's projects.
Local 640 has a beautiful waving flag made of conduit at the central training facility and it blows my mind

I want to make one for my house no lie 😭 I'm pretty good at bending conduit but not math this looks more like a math project. I saw it during my interview and I was like 😱
My eyes lol. I thought it was parallel reds, and parallel whites.
EDIT: this is like a optical illusion, thought it was shiny 1” emt. Must be time for my nap ..
I'm a journeyman plumber not an electrician and to me this is about the coolest thing I've seen in a long time! Fucking awesome! You could sell the hell out of those. It sounds ambitious but you definitely could sell those.

I might steal this concept and make one for in my garage 😂
Are the white stripes couplings ? It looks like 3 bundles of 1/2 and 3 pieces of strut , strut straps ? 200-300$ to build that ?

The others weren't photo worthy lol. Jk. Happy cake day!
All that and they still didn't hit the box. Just kidding - that looks awesome
Thanks for not disappointing. Someone had to say it. 😂
😂😂
Why is this actually fucking badass lol
That’s really cool!

Whoa! Maybe we'll get to build something like that in third year! Lol!

Wow! That’s next level!!
Very creative
That’s awesome

It's two sticks of 1/2" under one strut strap with a longer bolt to accommodate the two.
I think it’s really neat!
Great job, seriously. I might just copy this and make one for my man cave.
I'm going to run 1-in pvc Right over the top of it for data
*Chef’s kiss*
43 stars??? What flag is that??? F grade! Na for real tho. That's awesome. Great work.
Count again, we used a couple of strut straps painted white for stars!
Oh I see it now! Damn, now that's why you want to shop union!!!
IBEW Local 3 approves!
Thought this was the one in the Local 3 training center.
Outstanding project!

The singles look like they are going into double and it bugs me. But it’s excellent!
That looks pretty fucking awesome
Hol up I got to run this MC for the new lights….. Very nice

Dude. Nice.
Most expensive American Flag I've ever seen. Great work!
Cool. I wonder. Did they put it up. Then paint it? Or did they paint each stick, then bend, and mount? Don’t know why. Just curious.
Conduit came painted, our group did touch up paint after bending.
Where did you get the painted conduit?
All of the supply houses stock multiple colors around here.
Really? Why? Just for stuff like this? This pretty cool. But seams an expensive art form.
A lot of jobsites use different color conduit for different systems (red- fire alarm, blue-data, yellow- critical, etc)
Where is around here anyway?

You Americans have too much time on your hands.
