Glen of Imaal Terriers are incredibly rare, there are about 3000 in the entire world. This looks like a lot of Bully/Shih Tzu mixes that pop up on r/doggydna.
The fact that OP would even guess glen of imaal terrier is surprising. The only reason I have met one was because I frequent dog shows in my city. They are so rare.
Agree with your guess completely
I know, I would be SHOCKED if he was any type of pure breed. We definitely thought pit mix initially but he’s so small (25-30lbs) that I started to question it.
A friend of ours scanned a photo of him into a breed guessing app (obviously not the most accurate thing in the world) and it came back Glen of Imaal so I had fun learning about that breed 😂 he’s probably a bully mix in Glen clothing.
That’s true! A couple of our previous fosters have been very chunky big bully mixes so I forget how petite they can be! And so true, dwarfism probably plays a big role here
I have no clue what breeds breeds he might be a mix of. I'm just butting in to say that while he looks like a great dog, those pasterns are lower than my chances of hitting the lottery. You want to strengthen them or he'll have issues at some point. Talk to your vet and figure out your best course of action.
Is he still a puppy?
He's absolutely adorable, but his feet are concerning. He probably is a mix of pit bull and something smaller and scruffier, but pit bulls can carry dwarf genes, and based on his feet, I'd guess he does. Nothing to be done about it, but I wish I'd known more when I adopted my little dwarf pit bull.
Her feet are not nearly as extreme as his, but now she's 14 and her joints are not so good. Normal at that age, but she definitely didn't do herself any favors always jumping off of things that were too high. She's always acted like the biggest dog. If I could go back I would have tried to prevent her from jumping from anything higher than the couch. If he doesn't become a foster fail (which he 100% would in this house lol), I would mention that to the rescue. If they're good, they'll at least give the new owners a heads up.
I’ve been wondering if his legs are due to dwarfism, so this is really helpful information. The rescue thinks he’s between 1-2 years old so he’s young but probably not still growing. I’ve been learning a lot from everyone’s replies and definitely want to set him up for the healthiest life possible!
Yeah, looking at them again, it seems like a deformity. It's pretty extreme. I don't know if there's anything that could be done to help correct it, like leg braces or something-- I doubt it, since he's full grown, but a vet should definitely check him out. They might recommend supplements or certain types of exercise to help keep him able bodied, and they might be able to give realistic predictions about the future, like if this is something that will likely require surgery later on.
I'm certain there are plenty of people who'd be very willing to do whatever he needs and spend a lot of money, lol. He's so stinkin cute. I rescued a dachshund from a very filthy situation with people who smoked indoors-- they only let me take him because he had an obvious lung problem. He'd never been to the vet, of course, and the lung condition turned out to be pretty serious, but the woman who adopted him did alllll the things, including putting him in a tent-like thing for nebulizer treatments. 😭 She loved him so damn much, she would have done anything, and I'm sure that will be the case for this little dude too.
Sounds like depending on where you might reside OP, you could have a war on your hands with so many people eager to give this little cutie a new forever home. That is assuming you don't want to make this little guy a foster fail and make him yours instead. Can't say I'd blame you if you did. He is pretty darn cute. I have no idea what he might be and I'm not even going to try to guess. All I can say is he's 50% cutie and 50% good boy and that's my final answer.
He could also be a french bulldog poodle mix with dachshund? He looks a little like my french bulldog poodle mix but mine has longer legs. He’s absolutely adorable!
This makes me quite sad because of his poor breeding especially his front paws 😭. Please people stop backyard breeding. No he is not a purebred, obviously.
I know, it’s upsetting what backyard breeding is causing these dogs to live with. He is super sweet and energetic so he doesn’t know he even has these leg issues!

my first thought was some kind of bully and poodle, but definitely could be Shih Tsu too
Or bully plus maltese. Something about the face reminds me of Dog2, my maltese.

Pits are actually not big dogs. 30-50lbs is the average. He also looks like he has dwarfism…not an actual small breed. I’d bet he is majority pitty :)

Omg this is a pit mixed with something little and it’s so fucking cute
Maybe poodle mixed in
I’m seeing shihtzu almost
Someone tried to breed a pit with a shitzhu
Does that make him a Pitzhu? Or a shi bull?
Bullshit
🤭😂
I like his frumpy lil lips
I give up, you won this. Take my upvote you wordsmith!

That is the cutest dog I’ve ever seen 😍. (Don’t tell my dog I said that)
I also came here to say that I would die for this dog, not to be dramatic. He is so cute.
Ive never wanted to adopt a dog more. I’m obsessed.
I’d believe poodle x pit with dwarfism which is very common in pitties.
Agreed! I think it’s common to see the stubby legs and think of stubby-legged breeds, but sometimes it’s just dwarfism! This one really has that look.
Mr Rodger’s is the cutest dog I’ve ever seen!! What a handsome fellow.

Crested and pitbull. Life uh err, finds a way.
This dog is so cute what a big head I am also stumped
Those look like dachshund legs. Shih/dox/poodle/pit/chih he looks kind of like our dog https://www.wisdompanel.com/app/s/xdy56jh

Schnauzer / pittie / dachshund maybe ?
Schnauzer, Jack Russell, Dachshund, Pit? Oh he is such a precious boy! I would die for Mr. Rogers🥹🩶
He is totally adorable! Where are you located? My husband and I are considering adopting a 2nd dog, and he is definitely worth considering!
We’re located in Los Angeles!
Too bad! We're in NJ. He's the kind of low-rider we love!
Mr. Rogers is the handsomest boy I have EVER seen
Looks like a staffy with genetic malformations (dwarfism and the wirehair)
That sure is a cute little dog.
What an interesting look! Pitbull head on a wirehaired dachshund, love the color
Sure looks like Glen of Imaal terrier.
If this isn’t a bullshih I’ll eat a shoe
Pit mom Shih Tzu dad
So cute !!!
So cute!!!
Sorry no breed guesses but I hope his name is stumpy!!
You and Mr.Rogers need to follow @ratsnoot on instagram
Don’t worry we already do! Love that account
Pit/shih tzu
Looks like maybe some cairn terrier bully mix?
Pit poodle with dwarfism
He looks a little stumped too. I'd say bully, shih tzu, poodle, maybe boxer with that high stop.
He could also be a french bulldog poodle mix with dachshund? He looks a little like my french bulldog poodle mix but mine has longer legs. He’s absolutely adorable!
looks like a pit mixed with a wirehaired dachshund
Awww💕💕💕
This is absolutely one of the cutest pups I've ever seen
pitbull/schnauzer
Why do I see bulldog and terrier?
Teeny tiny little boi
Long haired dachshund & pittie maybe?
Pitbull and some sort of long hair, maybe poodle or bischon or shih tzu
WHERE ARE YOU AND WHEN CAN I ADOPT HIM
Los Angeles!
Dang! I’m in Washington state.
I’m in love

I love him
No idea, but I want him!!
I’m guessing Pitt, Shih Tzu and poodle
He looks like a dog from a Charles Dickens novel
Maybe pit x dachshound and shi tzu
Terrier for sure.
Pit x wire haired dachshund
So freaking cute!!!
Got some schnauzy
Could be a wire-haired dachshund mix. Definitely not a GoI.
Pitbull? Corgi? Poodle? I wouldn’t be able to hold myself back from ordering a DNA test immediately. Btw, his name is perfect!!!
