Tough choice between Brief Encounter and Casablanca. Went with Celia Johnson’s hauntingly excellent performance.
Fun bit of trivia…Wilder came up with the idea for The Apartment after watching Brief Encounter.
Three great movies, and I’m glad to see older movies making it to the final, the most recently released of these movies being The Apartment, which is 64 years old.
Brief Encounter is terrific, but not my vote here.
The Apartment is in my top 50, but it’s not getting my vote here either.
Casablanca is in my top 10, and it’s where I’m going. It was the favorite coming into the tournament, I think (traditionally the most nominated movie can be considered the favorite), and it has shown no signs of slowing down.
“I am shocked…shocked, to see this Romance Tournament end in a three way!”
They all tried, these three succeeded.

I didn’t know that. That’s cool.
The Apartment is one of my favorite movies.

I think romance movies just used to be a lot better for the most part. That's part of why the genre has kind of died and not just changing tastes.
It hasn't so much died as been ghettoed to the Lifetime & Hallmark Movie channels.
