Go to settings and look for the bar "layer row height" (something like that, i use it in Spanish) and choose a number of 75+, i like the opacity number to show, that's why I have it like that lmao

The only weird thing I see is the alpha next to the 100% Edit: typo
Try pressing on the down arrow next to the black square, that should do the trick
If you mean the color option (the black square) the opacity option there only reduces the pencil/eraser opacity, and does not work with layers!
