It’s pretty much something you have to do nowadays, just to be on the safe side. I’ve seen too many cars come flying across the intersection late. But honestly, Vegas isn’t the worst place to drive. We have a lot of straight roads, and don’t have to deal with as much traffic like SoCal does for example.
This person doesn’t think they’re stupid, they made a bet that everyone would have no choice but to stop for them. Basically they’re an entitled, selfish piece of shit. I’m sure this works most of the time because the other cars have two choices - let them do it or crash into them. Most people would rather not crash obviously. They just met an oblivious driver - otherwise they almost got away with it. But that driver who did crash into them became our hero that day.
That's fair. You mean you don't always check for someone turning in front of you from the far left lane before going straight when the light turns green???
I wanted to make a left hand turn on a street (2 lanes in both directions) with a left turn lane. For god know what reason, some idiot in the oncoming turn lane decided to spead forward and cut everyone off before I had a chance to turn into the turn lane. Had I continued on my way, I don't think he would have been able to stop in time before hitting me head on while going the wrong way in a turn lane. I had to quickly change my course of action, but the selfishness and recklessness is astounding.
Nah she did it all by herself, the examiner had some choice words and made her park to the side of the road right away.
She later said she "was anxious" and made a mistake, I can understand that but still that's a dangerous thing to do.
One of those assholes got me on my first driving test when I was a kid. Dude told me to make an illegal u-turn and I did, so he failed me then acted like he didn't tell me to do exactly what I did. Ok dude, you tricked a 16 year old, congrats, but you don't have to lie about it.
In the UK and the Netherlands it is quite normal for an examiner to say e.g. "take the next left", when the next road on the left has a no-entry sign. As someone being examined on whether you can safely drive a car, you are expected to understand that this means you take the next *legal* left turn.
I could understand something like that, but to compare that with what my examiner did, it would be more like him saying "turn exactly at this first left" and pointed at it, and there being no sign.
I got popped for not stopping at uncontrolled tracks. Examiner claimed they could be in service and I replied that there is no way, as I know for a fact the rails are cut about 200' from the road AND THERE WAS AN OUT OF SERVICE SIGN!!!
I was pissed because this was for a Hazmat endorsement that greatly impacted my earnings potential and he failed me. I appealed successfully and got to retest. Got the same examiner and I explicitly asked if he wanted me to pretend they were live tracks this time and he said no... WTF!
Wish I could say that’s the first time I’ve seen someone do this exact move, but it’s not…It’s also not the second time either. The benefits of living in Florida.
Yeah true, I'm assuming they're in a right turn only lane but it's not unheard of for someone to decide to go straight and just floor it to get ahead, a douchebag move but not unheard of. To go across three lanes to make that turn in staggeringly stupid
Almost happened to me earlier. I was on a one lane street and turning left, the guy behind me decided to pass by my left (so he was on the incoming lane) only to turn right.
Some people are just extra stupid and/or suffer from protagonist syndrome.
Some older guy just did this to me the other day but on a 2 way street. I was sitting at an intersection trying to turn on to the freeway on ramp and waiting for a pedestrian to cross and I had my blinker on. The person behind me couldn't see the pedestrian so they passed my on the left (putting them into the incoming lane) and realizing there was someone walking and swerved back into the incoming lane while cars were coming. I took the turn and saw him do a U-turn in the intersection on a red to get back to the freeway entrance. No idea why he couldn't figure out I was just waiting to get to the freeway.
It's the same class of individual who decides the need to cut across 3 lanes of traffic to make their exit.
They're either obvious or just too self centered to care.
This has happened to me twice. The first time, the guy to the left of me got my attention, we rolled down our windows and he asked to make a right turn from the left lane because he fucked up by not getting into the right lane in time. I said sure and there were no issues. 2nd time it was some dumbass who did it across 2 lanes, but we at least noticed and stopped and honked but they carried on like nothing happened. Some people are morons.
Yep, happened to me on a 4 lane road. Person in far right lane, without warning, swung out across all 4 lanes and I T boned them. I posted my dash cam on this sub last summer when it happened haha
Setting aside the politics there are very real challenges to improving public trans in the US. The further you get out of a city core the more expensive it is. Even in the second ring suburbs it get super expensive. Outer ring suburbs have to heavily subsidize it just to get limited hour service. And when you go rural it just becomes a money pit that serves almost no one.
This is why areas with the most population density tend to have the best transit systems.
Mass transit also absolutely fails for the US family dynamic. A mother of 3 might have to drop an infant off at one daycare, the toddler of at another and the 4 year old off at the head start program. Trying to juggle this on a bus in nearly impossible.
Until city design changes, and peoples attitudes change Mass transit is just not viable for the majority of people.
https://youtu.be/-cjfTG8DbwA
This explained everything like you said. The American way, or American dream according to our capitalists overlords have fed the people and ruined many public services. Just like you said, it's only impossible because the Americans will not change their attitude regarding public services, from city suburban design to car-centric focus.
Look at the kickbacks those politicians make. Most start out well off and end ungodly wealthy. How does one gain over 100 million well in public office?
Then their family members are all on boards of non-profits or businesses that get contracts with the government.
>Why are people so fucking stupid??
Because we ended any meaningful predation 10,000 years ago and modern society does an awful lot to protect children regardless of level of stupidity until they've had a solid chance to reproduce.
Checkmate evolution, we win.
Absolute insanity, but I'm also having trouble figuring out how the car that hit them didn't at least react enough to let off the gas.
Not their fault, but it's like they were accelerating without looking up.
Unless it was on purpose, then carry on you crazy bastard, lol.
Definitely initially, but kind of a slow reaction time even when it was directly in front of them.
Certainly not their fault, just expected them to stop accelerating.
People have pretty slow reaction times in general. I saw a study that said it takes 1 and a half to 2 seconds before health adults react to road hazards. This is apparently one reason why speeding and tailgating are so dangerous. ETA if you slow down the video at about 3 seconds is when I would say the Chrysler is past the suv and likely in view of the Honda driver. Just at about 4 seconds the crash. If the Honda driver has average reaction times then they literally didn’t have time to react
And Cornell. The vocals on the outro of that song might be the greatest I've ever heard. Only problem with it is they didn't extend it another few minutes.
I see so many maroons try this move at an intersection right near my apartment that I now avoid it entirely. I've watched people sit in the left turning lane, signal and everything, only to crank to the right and cut across two lanes of traffic and a pedestrian WALKING THROUGH THE WALKWAY as soon as the lights go green.
Some people truly defy my comprehension.
I find it hard to believe that the driver that hit the idiot didn't do this on purpose, but in a few situations, I think that's awesome. This is one of those situations. There is zero chance that the blue car isn't tagged with 100% of the fault.
(Even though with even a molecule of defensive driving, this accident wouldn't have occurred. Good for that driver to hit him on purpose.)
Haha, I was there! I was driving the white Ram in the background. This is in Las Vegas on sunset and sandhill I believe. Truly the stupidest driving I have ever witnessed.
When there is evidence of such a poor decision like this, I feel like their license should be suspended for a year minimum. Chances are they need the exercise anyway. A slap on the wrist ticket isn't enough.
Bad on the wrong way U-turn, and a ~~lack of awareness~~ by the other car.
Edit - someone pointed out the large truck to the left of the car going straight. I withdraw the lack of awareness comment.
Yes the driver very well could have not had time to react from trying to accelerate and through to impact in time to stop or even slow. You have no idea if the person was going to press on their brakes right before impact or not. No idea the age, physical capabilities of the person, mental capacity, life stress, or any other fact about the driver you're asserting bears significant responsibility here. A multitude of things could cause the person not to be able to stop, a couple of which are obscured line of vision and extremely unusual and dangerous activity from another driver. Another being mere seconds to react and make the safest decision for the circumstances at hand.
In other words . . . Other people with different capabilities, tools, experiences, and physical reactions than you exist in this world. The driver of the blue car is solely responsible for impact. A different driver may have been able to stop in time, this one didn't. The cause to stop when they had right of way was still the blue car. Without the blue car's actions there would have been no split second life changing decision needing to be made in defense of themselves. Actions. Meet consequences. You should get to know one another.
Reddit always wants to throw some blame on not at fault drivers. You don’t know what he could or couldn’t see, that’s why traffic lights are used boss.
Those commenters are people who either just got their licenses or have barely driven in the real world. But yeah, they ALWAYS blame the non-idiots for getting hit by a total fucking idiot.
Reddit always wants there to only be 1 idiot and nobody else could ever possibly be an idiot. Never ever can somebody *not at fault* be an idiot, that’s *impossible* and defies the laws of nature and physics!
Did I lay the sarcasm in thick enough for you?
Spoiler: the grey car is an idiot too. Incredibly slow reaction time and clearly not paying attention before proceeding into an intersection. Any good driver is going to look both ways before entering an intersection. My guess is was sitting on their phone and then just gunned it as soon as the light turns. Perfect example of defensive driving (more sarcasm for you).
>My guess is was sitting on their phone and then just gunned it as soon as the light turns. Perfect example of defensive driving (more sarcasm for you).
Or there view was blocked by the SUV.
If you watch the video again you can see them hit the brakes right as the blue car becomes visible when you take that into consideration.
If your view is blocked then you don’t gun it lol that’s my whole point. I’ve had no less than 5 replies pointing this out. Yeah no shit but why do all of you have this opinion that if your view is blocked you never have to be cautious? And the grey car never hit their breaks, they drove straight through the blue car which is why I said they likely were on their phone and just gassed it cuz the car next to them started to go.
No they didn’t lol they drove straight thru the blue car and didn’t brake or anything. At such low speed the collision would’ve stopped them if their foot was anywhere but the gas pedal.
>At such low speed the collision would’ve stopped them if their foot was anywhere but the gas pedal.
Unless they, you know, clipped the back causing the blue car to spin.
Also time the video. From the light change to the collision is 3 seconds. In 3 seconds you are expecting that car to realize the light changed, proceed with caution with the SUV, notice the SUV stopped for some reason (as opposed to them not simply proceeding faster than the SUV , abandon going forward, hit the brakes.
This is without considering the shoke factor of a car appearing out of nowhere 5-10 feet in front of them.
Hey grandma time to hang up the keys. 😢
And be honest ok? You drive in the left lane? Under the speed limit? Yeahhhhh you do. Little cop wanna be
Your post was really dumb man, and the sarcasm attempts were weak. It wasn’t funny nor cute. Traffic is green but you gotta get out of your car and look first, traffic lights ain’t the law. Lol 🤡
Buncha weird replies from you lol I’d be embarrassed to type cringey shit out like that. If you’re gonna trash talk at least put some emphasis on it instead of half assing it with *checks notes* … grandma jokes? Oh… dear.
Buncha weird replies from you lol I’d be embarrassed to type cringey shit out like that. If you’re gonna trash talk at least put some emphasis on it instead of half assing it with checks notes … grandma jokes? Oh… dear.
My theory is that the grey car hit him on purpose. If that's the case, I can respect that. It forces the case into the legal system. Otherwise, the blue car lives to drive like this another day without consequence.
Most dashcam accidents I see are like this, an idiot who is clearly at fault, and a lesser idiot who is either distracted, a shitty driver, or driving a barely road-legal shitbox. If the second person did everything right, they could have avoided the accident.
Not always though, sometimes you have to maintain a certain speed, and just trust other drivers to obey traffic laws. Defensive driving isn't always an option.
This subreddit doesn't like it when there's more than one imbecile. They like to have fixed blame firmly to just one person, because even if the other person is a complete moron, they are "legally right", even though the vast majority of situations posted here could be completely avoided by the injured party if they were just paying attention and not being morons.
My feelings as well. I think it's a mix of taking "don't blame the victim" to a logical extreme, and reveling in the power law gives drivers to not brake/yield when their right of way is violated.
In a way they are doing the society a service, blindly plowing into a car that mysteriously appeared in your lane takes the bigger idiot off the road for a while.
Right there with you guys. It’s a plague on this sub and really I think it’s because secretly most of those redditors are the secondary imbeciles in these videos. Zero situational awareness.
Not only in this sub, it's absolutely insane how much people think it's not necessary to prevent something bad because they're legally right.
They still have to bother with the damage and since they've been in a vehicle they probably wanted to go somewhere. Insurances aren't known to be fast and in the worst case your health gets affected.
Here you can be partially at fault when you don't try to avoid an accident because you are supposed to always expect others to make a mistake, be it intentional or not. Everyone makes a poor decision at some point.
Logical extreme, or*Il*logical one?
Here in the UK, I suspect that if this ever got as far as court, any damages the gray car driver got would be reduced by a (likely fairly small) percentage due to "contributary negligence." Most things like this never get that far over here, insurers argue it out, but they too accept reduced settlements if their own driver could have responded better.
> I just dont under how the guy actually hit him
Early on, his view is blocked by the SUV. Blue car comes into his sight line at 0:03, impact is at 0:04.
Minus human reaction time, plus stomp the gas immediately = crunch.
No way the civic could see that car through the soccer mom machine next to him. It even accelerated faster than the civic did initially, blocking out any hope to see it until it was too late.
That's a special kind of stupid
*sigh* this is something I’ve seen in Maryland and Las Vegas, I consider it a cross continental stupid.
This is in Las Vegas on sunset and sandhill lol
Keeping in mind in Vegas breakfast of champions is not Cheerios and milk, it's Vodka and skittles
Waging war against good people is bad for the soul
The adult version of Taste the Rainbow
that's great. what are the skittles for though. seems more of a lunch idea.
They say breakfast is the most important cocktail of the day
Las Vegas drivers are a different breed. I always wait a couple seconds when the light turns green bc of how often people run reds
Legit had a idiot on a moped with no helmet turn out in front of me, then flip me off when I had to floor the brake to avoid killing the man.
you know how you could have prevented being flipped of ya know \~s
It’s pretty much something you have to do nowadays, just to be on the safe side. I’ve seen too many cars come flying across the intersection late. But honestly, Vegas isn’t the worst place to drive. We have a lot of straight roads, and don’t have to deal with as much traffic like SoCal does for example.
I was going to say... if this happened on Maryland Pkwy....
Oh gosh. I've been here. Great Filipino food buffet nearby.
Oh this is a standard Maryland move. They must’ve been on vacation.
I can't believe you've seen this at least twice. I cannot fathom this sort of stupidity. They had to have been really high or drunk
Am a Maryland resident. Can confirm my state is home to some of the worst drivers I have ever seen, and I have lived in south Florida.
Spot-on! It's easy to tell because they pull out front before anyone else does, thinking they'll get away with it for the reason you stated.
It's still stupid since it's not that low of a probability that someone will crash into them
I don't think the person who hit em was oblivious, they couldn't see over the truck that was beside em. Then bam, some asshole out of nowhere.
That's fair. You mean you don't always check for someone turning in front of you from the far left lane before going straight when the light turns green???
Idk, it didn’t look like they started braking at all from the point at which they should’ve seen them, just plowed through them.
If they are anything like San Antonio drivers, they were still looking down at their phone when they took off.
Did you see the window tint on that car? I doubt the driver could see anything out his side window. Blacked out limo tint.

When I had my driving license final driving test one of the other students tried the exact same thing in a busy intersection. She did not pass.
> She did not pass. What a Balrog!
Out of curiosity, did you hear about it after the fact or somehow get to witness it? Was it on a live street or a closed course or something?
I was in the other test car, and it happened in a live intersection of our city , which is why the instructor was very pissed off.
Gotcha --I didn't test as part of a class/group, so I wasn't sure how that might have looked in your case.
Probably an examiner asking them to make an obvious stupid and illegal maneuver. Some people will do it simply because a passenger suggests it.
Nah she did it all by herself, the examiner had some choice words and made her park to the side of the road right away. She later said she "was anxious" and made a mistake, I can understand that but still that's a dangerous thing to do.

That's fucked up, glad you won your appeal.
Wish I could say that’s the first time I’ve seen someone do this exact move, but it’s not…It’s also not the second time either. The benefits of living in Florida.
For both cars
I disagree, the SUV blocked the line of sight for the gray car driver, so he had about a second to react. That is not a lot of time.
Dude in the civic just leeroy jenkins'd into the side of the 200 lol.
Explain to me how anybody but the blue car is stupid here . . . .
Nah I think blue got taught a lesson
Yeah true, I'm assuming they're in a right turn only lane but it's not unheard of for someone to decide to go straight and just floor it to get ahead, a douchebag move but not unheard of. To go across three lanes to make that turn in staggeringly stupid
Right turn only lanes are always indicated on the floor, this looked like a normal lane to me.
This just happened to me this morning. Guy behind me thought left turn only lanes are good way to pass someone.
It’s a U-Turn with an extra boost at the end.
Wahoo!
Comments you can hear
HERE WE _GO!_
Totally. Sounded like a droid to me.
I'd like to keep it on manual for a while, R2.
This is Rocket League!
So ... He's in the far left hand lane, and takes a right hand turn, crossing the path of other cars. Yeah, that's a special kind of stupid.

Not sure from this angle, but he might even be not in the far left lane but just in oncoming.
Yep, happened to me on a 4 lane road. Person in far right lane, without warning, swung out across all 4 lanes and I T boned them. I posted my dash cam on this sub last summer when it happened haha
What an absolute imbecile
Why are people so fucking stupid?? Why are they also still allowed to drive when said stupidity affects other people?
Because judges are reluctant to take away someone's ability to drive when there are few/no viable transportation alternatives.
Damn. Maybe our state and federal government should push for more idk, public transportation systems. Joke of a country.
That could help the working class not be desperate and destitute though
What an *atrocity* 🫨
But the auto industry will suffer. Do you not have any sympathy for the billionaire CEOs?
Public Transportation *gasp*, that's commie talk😤 /s

Selfishness, not stupidity. This person thought they'd get away with it and didn't care about the effect it might have on others.

Right Turn is such an underappreciated song. Very surprised to hear it outside of r/aliceinchains RIP Layne, Mike, and Chris 🖤
Was wondering if this was Alice in Chains. Sounded like them but it’s been years so thank you for this comment.
We need harder driving tests. Or fucking something. People that have a tuna sandwich as a brain shouldn’t be driving.
This is vegas right? Thought it looked familiar hehe.
This is GTA: San Andreas
Yeah. Corner of Sandhill and sunset.
Looks like it. Can’t make out the street sign, maybe it’s Sahara but that’s a lot smaller than I remember Sahara being.
The guy who pit him Mayne had a chance to break, but he did a service to all

I pretty much stayed home for memorial weekend not worth putting up with vegas drivers on a holiday.
Took me a second to realize why you picked this song. Haha. Nice choice.
For everyone not getting the joke with the music: the song is *Right Turn* by Alice In Chains featuring Chris Cornell.
R.I.P Layne Staley
And Cornell. The vocals on the outro of that song might be the greatest I've ever heard. Only problem with it is they didn't extend it another few minutes.
ITS HARD TO BELIEVE, SOOOOOOOOMEBODY TRICKED YOOOOU
How about when Layne comes in with "and into the FIYYERR"!? Chills every time
When you can see you were only high!
And you know, this bozo got out of his car and said something like "What the hell man? Didn't you see me? This is *your* fault!"
Wtf are people thinking Something I ask myself daily
Well, I was in the turn lane
That car saw a pay day and took it.
Right hand turn across 3 lanes of traffic from the left turning lane?
Haha, I was there! I was driving the white Ram in the background. This is in Las Vegas on sunset and sandhill I believe. Truly the stupidest driving I have ever witnessed.
How do these people tie their shoes in the morning?
Velcro.
Good call, still sounds tuff for some out there. LOL
I got slip ons. I'm not dumb, I'm just lazy, but they exist.
When there is evidence of such a poor decision like this, I feel like their license should be suspended for a year minimum. Chances are they need the exercise anyway. A slap on the wrist ticket isn't enough.
Who could have known that making a right turn from the far left lane could result in this
Reddit posters are idiots. That car is making a right hand turn from a left turn lane.
Assisted UTurn
Nice song choice
Really good example of a dumb driver.
what I can't even what
I really like how they never touched the brake pedal either so they doubled their damage at the end crashing into a pole or some sort of solid object.
Where did that clown come from, thinking that's a good idea? That has to be the dumbest thing I have seen so far today.

Idiot of the year award! In a landslide!
Wow, that is a description of a Moron 🤔
Hold on, the ME, ME, ME, majesty is coming Through
Anyone else notice the song is “Right Turn” by Alice In Chains?
Incredible choice of song. So fitting lol
But I had my blinker on - the idiot probably
I feel for the grey car, but so glad they did that to the idiot. Maybe the idiot will learn something from this. One can hope, anyway
Ah…This is the newest trend. Turn from the furthest lane across traffic! I just posted a video of someone turning left from the right lane.
He was in the turning lane
Car probably had sun in their eyes.
Haha, nice song choice! #iykyk
I only know because another commenter said what it was, and I have to agree that it's totally perfect.
The grey car who hit him is also driven by an imbecile.
The narwhal bacons at midnight.
His view is clearly obscured by the car next to him. You kinda dumb.
So you’re saying because the view next to him is obscured the proper reaction is to gun it? Lol and *you* called *me* dumb? Right.
If "gunning it" is going 5mph to you...then ya, you dumb.
well yes, because you are being dumb
Where are you getting that they gunned it? Again you can see the civic let off the gas at a minimum
😢 And be honest ok? You drive in the left lane? Under the speed limit? Yeahhhhh you do. Little cop wanna be Your post was really dumb man, and the sarcasm attempts were weak.
Oh… dear.

That car is lower visibility was block by the suv. When the suv stopped it’s probably too late for the car to do anything.
My theory is that the grey car hit him on purpose. If that's the case, I can respect that. It forces the case into the legal system. Otherwise, the blue car lives to drive like this another day without consequence.
Absolutely. He could have avoided an accident, but was probably distracted. Big blue was an idiot, but gray could have braked.
You gotta be a special type of dumb to have did this
I just dont under how the guy actually hit him- was he also not paying attention? I’m glad the other guy stopped in time…
> I just dont under how the guy actually hit him Early on, his view is blocked by the SUV. Blue car comes into his sight line at 0:03, impact is at 0:04. Minus human reaction time, plus stomp the gas immediately = crunch.
The civic absolutely did the right thing hah
Yup. By sacrificing their car to prevent them from going any further to possibly harm others.
Am I the only one who thinks the person who T boned them had ample time to observe the fuckin road beforehand 😂
Hahaha 🤣 got eeem!!
I'm also surprised the person hitting them didn't touch the brake for a second lol.
Insiiiiide, always tryna get back insiiiide. Had to nod to the song. I guess the lyrics kind of apply 🤷🏻♂️
LMAO, funniest video ive seen all day.
What is it with people keep driving after a crash ?
Looks like a u-turn to me! Car is facing the opposite way.
My insurance is as lowwwe as it can geeeeeet I drive across country and never wreeeeeeeeckkkk.
While the blue car is an idiot. The civic isn’t that bright either. While not his fault he sped up as the car was in front of him
No way the civic could see that car through the soccer mom machine next to him. It even accelerated faster than the civic did initially, blocking out any hope to see it until it was too late.
They're both idiots.
it doesn't even look like the Civic tried to stop though,
Do other drivers not watch their surroundings? Even if the idiot was in the wrong, the one that hit him could have just not accelerated.
