The city of the damned is one of the sites known as "adventure sites. There are a few different ones you can find. https://illwiki.com/dom5/adventure-sites There's the info for the process as it worked in 5, and I can't imagine it would have changed much in the interim. So hypothetically you can get great rewards, including artifacts and thousands of gold, but it is also very unlikely as your commander would need to survive multiple trips in and roll the chance for a good reward. if you want to survive, your best bet is probably make a few items that grant luck and pass them out to a few guys. Also, the reason your mounted commanders fight on foot is that the adventure site attacks are treated as assassinations, which always make the target fight unmounted in 6.

I didn't even know adventure sites existed in dom5. I have over 1200h in it.

I still am giddy like a kid when I find a rare site I haven't seen before. Did you know theres a single 6-path site in the game? Everything else tops out at 4(X), this needs 6(S).

AUserNeedsAName

There are two 5-paths, both bad. A D5 site that gives death scales and an S5 site that horror marks. My personal favorite that I will never EVER see is the one that requires Holy 4 (!!!) to find. The mod inspector lists its effect as "Holy fire: 30%" so I don't even really even know what it does.

SvalbardCaretaker

Thats easy to find! I got it a couple month ago!!! Holy fire is the effect Marignons capital has for example, it harms undead, and its easy to find because theres a message. "Some unknown effect is blasting your undead troops in XXX with holy fire". The way more common Pool of Sanctitiy has 5% holy fire, for example. I'm confused about your claim of there being two 5X sites, mod inspector 6 doesn't list them. edit: mod command to search for is "holyfire", modinspector5 can do it, its only 3 normal sites + Marignon capital.

AUserNeedsAName

Ahh, that's right. I've gotten that message before but never bother to search for holy so I just avoid those provinces when it pops up lol! And I'm confused too, because the Dom6 mod inspector is where I pulled that info from. IDs 838 (Cult of Death) and 752 (Horror Cult). I just double checked and don't have any mods loaded or anything. I'd post a screenshot, but Imgur is on fire again.

SvalbardCaretaker

Ah, its not a "normal", "throne", or "capital" site, only appears when "all types" is selected. Additionally the page defaults to "no scales" for me instead of "all scales", hiding the Death Cult. Weird! Perhaps one of the "cult of x" event chains? Can't find it though, but rarity 5 is either a capital or an event, I've seen some sites I know to be events.

AUserNeedsAName

Looking at it some more, I'm actually starting to wonder if they can even appear in normal gameplay or are just sitting inactive in the code. They don't have the [newsiteevent] tag which you typically see for event chain spawns. I haven't done enough modding to know if a site requires that tag to be event-spawnable or if it's just for documentation and you can call whatever you want from the event side. Definitely interesting.

SvalbardCaretaker

Youve seen 2731 ? No new-site tag, but still does spawn it, apparently.

kaytin911

There's another site that requires holy 4 as well with tiny rewards.

Affectionate_Tell752

There are only 4 and they are all rare, with one being rarity 5 which I'm not sure what exactly that means.

SvalbardCaretaker

rarity 5 = capital sites or event spawned ones.

Affectionate_Tell752

I looked at the list and wondered if it meant that, but I couldn't find an event that spawned City of the Ancients, only one that depended on it.

OOrochi

Ha! They were pretty uncommon, IIRC there were like 4 relatively rare sites, but they did exist.

You need someone that can fight against mundate opponents fairly well. You need someone that has a good chance of not dying to a magic trap that does a single big hit. So, get a fairly beefy normal commander with decent built in armour and attack rating (so he can fight a few skeletons etc), and give him something that makes him lucky and maybe something that stops the first blow, both of which help against insta kill traps. Eg Faithful (a sword that gives lucky) or a pendant of luck; plus a Rabbit Foot Charm (that gives twist fate).

ZTZao

What are the odds of these even sites spawning?
