So IC tells me to keep orders separate at the store, and I pay for them separately, and theyāre bagged or boxed separately and I load them separately into my car and **still** I have to reverify I have the correct order separated from the other one??? IC can F right off!
It actually makes no sense you pick the item, so you could mess up on every other item, then due to this new system it removed customers address so its not easily found it prompts it even when it is 10 minutes away if someone has delivered there before despite it being incorrect address
What it should be is specific items selected by instacart at random not us selecting 1 item, and the software should not auto populate your screen with it upon arrival it should wait until you confirm arrival
I agree with the 2nd part, but the first would be way more annoying in a huge order. Trying to comb through all the bags to find the jar of garlic powder would be infuriating. If the orders are separated, which item you scan should be irrelevant other than cases where both customers have the same items.
>It actually makes no sense you pick the item, so you could mess up on every other item
It does make sense. In the grocery store, you have to separate, scan, bag, and pay for orders separately. Once you get them in the car, unless you labeled the bags, the app is making sure you grabbed the correct bags for the correct customer.
They are trying to stop us from delivering entirely incorrect orders and bags. On that aspect it makes sense, but you're right - there's no fool proof way. We could easily just pick up one right bag and one wrong bag and deliver.
Yeah I really hate when I have to sign for a ups package and they scan the box first, itās like come on man, just trust you delivered it to me it will be fine
I used to be a receiver at a dealership and ups scans every single box and I sign āit take liability out of their hands they did their partā Itās not about trust they just have a system.
I fully understand that and have always appreciated checks and balances within work to make sure things are reported accurately each step of the process
Fun story one time they marked something as delivered and it wasnāt and it was the payroll checks for our dealership oooooooh boy was it a shit show.
Itās blowing my mind that no one sees this as a problem. To your point, what if it wasnāt just ONE item. What if it starts becoming 20 items or worse. Idk why youāre getting steam
You had to scan every item twice? Thatās so weirdā¦. Maybe theyāre having issues between whom ever shops and who delivers?? And now theyāre using this to try and figure out which it is??
So is this like another shopper stages the order then you go pick it up??
Scanning the bag labels has become very common... I actually prefer doing that now, since it guarantees I'm not mixing up bags or forgetting some. I mean as long as I am scanning at drop off point... lol - as opposed to scanning in my car, then maybe grabbing different bag or forgetting it after scanning
I think shoppers (yes Iām one too) LOVES THE DRAMAS customer: āPlease hurryā shopper āOMG get off my back!ā These customers be trippināā¦ forget thisā¦ cancel š¤£š¤£
Thereās a stand up comedian named Brent Pella and he was talking about a Spirit Airline story. Basically, there was a weight distribution problem and the flight attendant asked people to move to the back. The guy himself went to the back and when the flight attendant came to thank him he asked āis everything alright?ā The flight attendant then replied āweāll see!ā
Same energy here.
We went through this exact process a couple of years ago. Annoying as hell and it looks strange digging through sacks at the door to scan items. I think it was two or three items of each order.
Not sure what the purpose is exactly. It doesnāt prove a damn thingā¦.
Why not fix the real problems with this app?
If it's a double or triple, it makes sense. It's probably waiting for you to scan an item that is unique to the order you're delivering to make sure you are dropping off the correct order.
And thatās fine but us veterans donāt make those mistakes so itās just a waste of our time.
Also, how does that even make sense? One item could be in the right customerās bag but the rest could be wrong so it makes zero sense.
There are so many other things about the app that really would make a difference if they actually cared enough to listen!
Over 3,000 batches and I only ever mixed up one order when I first started. Thereās no way for me to mix up orders because I literally put them in different rows of my car and I only take doubles at the most, and order B goes in the very back of the car. Iām also mindful of where I place the bags in the cart. Waste of my time. Glad I donāt do this anymore. It just gets worse.
True, everyone makes mistakes but not where my work is concerned! I am very detailed and careful when I work.
I have not mixed up an order in almost 3 years. When I first started I did it once and I am almost 5,000 orders deep.
If you have a system that works you donāt make those types of mistakes. Thatās what I meant when I made this statement.
This scanning an item deal is completely useless because everything else in the bag could be wrong.
I have been around long enough to experience this exact same update but you had to scan 3 items at every stop. It was worthless and a time sucker hence why they did away with it.
Yeah thatās just gonna get customers FREAKING out and complaining about shoppers going through their order at the door. I doubt the app will work every time too.
It says ā0 of 1 doneā so you need to scan one item. That is annoying though. Itās asking you after you took the picture! Itās already annoying that I am forced to take a delivery photo when half the time people come out even though they chose leave at door. Now I have to stop them from picking their stuff up to scan a random item?
Now we are bothering support? I know they are busy refusing bumps and telling shoppers what a wonderful job they are doing but inquiring about a pointless new feature is bothering them?
I saw the little pop up after checkout today, but as I was doing a single; I donāt think it triggered it. Havenāt done a double/triple yet to see how it goes.
Iāve been getting so annoyed when the check items list pops up when itās a single! Yes Iām 100% certain itās the correct order! No one in management apparently has any clue what itās like for shoppers!
I've seen the new screen where it pops up with the items, but not the scan one item. It's still significantly easier than the delivery only orders, so no biggie. If we have to scan stuff like laundry detergent pr pricier items, it should help us. Too many customers say stuff is missing when it isn't.
I haven't been prompted to scan anything, but before I can confirm arrival, it shows me all the stuff in the customers order and I have to confirm that it is.
Pro tip...scan your bulky, unbagged item...think bottled water, TP, etc, and do that as you're about to unload it from the car. Easy peasy. If you're already keeping your orders separated as you go (highly, highly suggest this) AND check against the list in batch details as you load them into your car, it's super simple. I already do this, minus the dumb scanning thing.
You only scan 1 item. They just want to make sure youāre delivering the correct order to the correct person by scanning a single item in a multiple order batch.
By making sure the item that's scanned was part of the order being delivered. If you're doing things right, you should already have your orders kept separate. All this does is make sure the correct order is left. It's one single item, it's really not that big of a problem.
It was awesome to see that pop up in the driving rain while trying to delivery to a location with barely any coverage. Another great idea from Instacart.
It just started for me yesterday. It was so annoying because it was kicking me off gps a min or two before I even got to the customer and telling me to scan an item. The first one was meet the customer so the groceries were inside and then the message pops up again. Just another frustrating thing the app has to offer.
Omg so we will probably start seeing it soon too. They have got to start implementing better ways of doing this kind of stuff. Like maybe having them scan the item right after check out or before āconfirming arrivalā.
It was frustrating too because I didnt even know what was happening. At first I thought it was telling me I forgot to scan something. Maybe I missed the explanation or something since it interrupted my driving and I was just trying to get the gps back. It did pop up again but it was a meet the customer and they already had the groceries. It gave the option to say I already delivered.
I Ubereats deliver sometimes and did a GoPuff that made me do the same thing. Except it was every item. I totally get where this shopper is coming from. Use more discretion in onboarding us if theft is an issue.Ā Either trust us or don't, don't make us play games.
That wouldnāt be so bad but not sure it would prevent much, other than forcing you to drop off 1 item. Some people donāt care to drop it and pick it up right after
I've done this when, for what ever reason, the app stalled on uploading the photo and i have to force close and redo, but I've already left their house. But i just black out the pic
This usually happens when i do pick up and drop offs not shop and delivers . Every pickup and deliver batch i took i had to scan the items at the store and delivery location
Then what is the point of us taking a photo of, uploading, and keeping, each individual receipt??? The receipt has always been proof that every item is purchased š¤·š¼āāļø
Just another example of making shit more complicated for competent folks because of incompetent nincompoops. Even when you do shit right you get punished.
I had it pop up for me the other day and I just ignored it... unless it was the equally annoying "tell us what happened" screen from a sub (which I also ignore)
At the very end your conversation he legit tells you itās because the customer keeps saying shit is not delivered unless Iām reading this wrongā¦.
Just scan one item before you even unload the bags from your car. First time I got that message today. Grabbed the first thing in the bag. Scanned it, delivered at door, took picture, marked delivered. Simple.
Itās all in bags like what a joke. This hasnāt happened to me yet but I will stop taking big orders if it does, and I also wonāt take low paying orders, so Iāll prob just quit all together š¤£
When even customer service says "I guess so" you know you're screwed š¤£
I laughed hysterically when I read that msg š¤£
So IC tells me to keep orders separate at the store, and I pay for them separately, and theyāre bagged or boxed separately and I load them separately into my car and **still** I have to reverify I have the correct order separated from the other one??? IC can F right off!
ITS ONE ITEMā¦. You get there and scan ONE ITEM.
This makes more sense thank you
It actually makes no sense you pick the item, so you could mess up on every other item, then due to this new system it removed customers address so its not easily found it prompts it even when it is 10 minutes away if someone has delivered there before despite it being incorrect address
If thatās an issue then however youāre separating orders needs to change.
Yea i dont do large item count orders too often
I think specific items would be annoyingā¦ would require digging aroundā¦ think Iām fine with pick any item system.
Then youād have to go through every bag to find that one yogurt at the bottom of the last bag. No thanks
>It actually makes no sense you pick the item, so you could mess up on every other item It does make sense. In the grocery store, you have to separate, scan, bag, and pay for orders separately. Once you get them in the car, unless you labeled the bags, the app is making sure you grabbed the correct bags for the correct customer.
Exactly you already did the diligence and makes no sense, its created because some shoppers don't do that so it does nothing
They are trying to stop us from delivering entirely incorrect orders and bags. On that aspect it makes sense, but you're right - there's no fool proof way. We could easily just pick up one right bag and one wrong bag and deliver.
It really takes a doctorate to differentiate between singular and plural these days.
Sorry itās like the tenth post Iāve read people makin it sound like weāre getting horse whippedā¦you pull up scan one item and deliver.
Yes and next it will be pull up, scan one item, touch your nose, twirl, and deliver. You miss the point doc.

Fun story one time they marked something as delivered and it wasnāt and it was the payroll checks for our dealership oooooooh boy was it a shit show.
Oh man, money, food and housing are things you do not fuck with. Things can escalate very quickly when they are.
You didnāt even scan an item. You took a pic of your feet in your car with the steering wheel blocking it. At least do your job properly.
They didn't take a pic of their feet. They paused to take the screenshot. You can see clearly no pic was taken at that time
If it reduces the number of orders delivered to the wrong person then itās a good thing. It literally takes 5 seconds.
Yes I think I do.
Itās blowing my mind that no one sees this as a problem. To your point, what if it wasnāt just ONE item. What if it starts becoming 20 items or worse. Idk why youāre getting steam
But it IS just one item. Why imagine problems where there aren't any?
Yeah I had a stroke reading this and almost died .
Truth
I haven't done this. But when I bag shit I roll the bags I'd be annoyed for real.
No way!!! Itās one item?? I had to scan each and every single item one at a time
Huh?
It was one of the pick up and deliver orders, they made me scan every single item during pickup and drop off
You had to scan every item twice? Thatās so weirdā¦. Maybe theyāre having issues between whom ever shops and who delivers?? And now theyāre using this to try and figure out which it is?? So is this like another shopper stages the order then you go pick it up??
Do you mean you had to scan the bag labels... ? Not the individual items in bags...
Yeah the bags I meant, there were like 15-20 :(
Scanning the bag labels has become very common... I actually prefer doing that now, since it guarantees I'm not mixing up bags or forgetting some. I mean as long as I am scanning at drop off point... lol - as opposed to scanning in my car, then maybe grabbing different bag or forgetting it after scanning
I wouldnāt mind if it was just once but they make you scan it twice, once when you pickup and once when u drop off
Well yes, but that way you can be assured (rest assured ! Lol) that all the bags to the order were brought out and not left in store
Is this a new thing because I just started doing this today š¤
Yea why all the crying about this? Literally one item lolol
I think shoppers (yes Iām one too) LOVES THE DRAMAS customer: āPlease hurryā shopper āOMG get off my back!ā These customers be trippināā¦ forget thisā¦ cancel š¤£š¤£
Yes just to make sure every item is delivered.
Instacart is really squeezing their moneys worth out of that $4.53 batch pay
New update arrived:batch pay is now $2.53 and add on deliveries are now $0 . (Satirical joke but in doordash and Ubereats this has happened ).
Thereās a stand up comedian named Brent Pella and he was talking about a Spirit Airline story. Basically, there was a weight distribution problem and the flight attendant asked people to move to the back. The guy himself went to the back and when the flight attendant came to thank him he asked āis everything alright?ā The flight attendant then replied āweāll see!ā Same energy here.
I had a dentist struggle to put a cap on a tooth. When it finally stuck he said āgood luck with that!ā
I had a dentist yell god damnit once while working on a tooth. It did not instill confidence.
Imagine being there to see that crackhead that took the 134 item order for $11.60 and watch that unfold
They would only scan one item then deliver it as normal
We went through this exact process a couple of years ago. Annoying as hell and it looks strange digging through sacks at the door to scan items. I think it was two or three items of each order. "us veteran's don't make mistakes" that's where your mistaken, everyone makes mistakes.
6 yrs and a few thousand batches with zero mixups. Organization and attention to detail. That's it.

That's too much extra when we aren't employees.
Itās just one item tho that you have to scan
š
It would have taken you less time to scan an item than bother support over it
Now we are bothering support? I know they are busy refusing bumps and telling shoppers what a wonderful job they are doing but inquiring about a pointless new feature is bothering them?
Bro just scan one single item and youāre done
yall gotta read it literally says 0 of 1 meaning scan ONE item

This thread sadly proves how low IQ and/or whiny a lot of shoppers are. Scan AN item.
Yes I guess so.

One itemā¦.. yall act like this is a crippling thing to do. Its either this or a 9-5 at walart. Stop complaining
Found the shopper that needs to scan one item to know whose order it is.
I haven't seen this yet. Wonder if it's for people who constantly say order not delivered.
I think it's for doubles. I haven't seen it yet though.
It was awesome to see that pop up in the driving rain while trying to delivery to a location with barely any coverage. Another great idea from Instacart.
"Yes I guess so" dude doesn't even know the policies but has control over people's entire livelihoods.
It literally says scan one item. Quit complaining about doing your job
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
we already scanned them once what does scanning something at drop-off prove?
That you're dropping off order A and didn't accidentally grab order B.
So whatās crazy is Iāve been doing this for 5 years and have never seen this. Or the check items list. Crazy.
Same.
Maybe itās only in certain areas?
Probably. They *do* do that.

I haven't seen it yet either. Been shopping in California the last year, Florida before that. Also, odd agent. š

This determines who enters the next round-robin; am I wrong?
No it's just so you don't get mixed up
You scan 1 item. Itās only on batch orders to help make sure youāre delivering the right part of the order.
Special Ed ah people
Oh hell no! If it makes me re scan 70 items at their house, like Iām some crackhead for groceries, Iām done. Unless they give me a bump š¤Ŗ
iām pretty sure you only need to scan a single item
That wouldnāt be so bad but not sure it would prevent much, other than forcing you to drop off 1 item. Some people donāt care to drop it and pick it up right after
This agent spoke better English than I expected. Itās not a copy&paste š¤£
I have a feeling this support tech isnāt one of the polite Indians we usually deal with lol šŗšø

Oh wtffffffffff
Itās just 1 items they have to scam n itās really only show up for me when I have 2 batches I guess so people donāt get the wrong items
I had it pop up for me the other day and I just ignored it... unless it was the equally annoying "tell us what happened" screen from a sub (which I also ignore)
It clearly says scan ONE item. It even says 0/1 done.
āMark it deliveredā lol. Who do you think you are ordering them though?
The guy who knows how to do the job and asked nicely the first time.
Who are you dipshit?
Lord I thought it was just me they were babysitting on that app lmao

seriously?!!
I got that shit for a 1 customer order all the freaking time. How stupid should they be for doing that.

yea iām not doing that
When did this start? Iāve been working doubles all day and didnāt see anything like this.
EVERY item!? Oh hell no, they donāt pay enough for all that.
nahh u only need to scan 1 item, any item lol š
Oh thanks goodness lmao
