I think he just momentarily lost control and came back to his senses once he was removed. Louis is known to act out violently when he's angry (he's killed a lot of people out of anger), and we know that he sometimes falls victim to his vampire nature. I don't think he ever actually wanted Daniel dead; he wants his story told.

TodayDramatic

He stops Armand because he wants the story told. I think he lost control when he attacked Daniel

BetterThanAWink

Louis was triggered and attacked. He was thinking clearly later.

CantbeAya

Because he didn’t hate Daniel, he just got annoyed because Daniel was a little shit 😂😂😂

StevesMcQueenIsHere

He lost control but didn't actually want Daniel dead. He actually liked Daniel.

SoooperSnoop

To the OP: I was confused by this too.

AmbassadorProper1045

My guess is he never intended to "kill" Daniel but once he starting drinking Daniels blood he couldn't control his vampire nature at that time.

I’m only on the second book, but Armand and Louis have been separated before Louis decides to do the interview so I’m not sure if Louis intervening in the show is his way to trying to keep Daniel around cuz he wants to eventually revisit the interview (but didn’t anticipate that Armand would delete his memories after they set Daniel free… so it took longer to get there). I’m curious how the show would work in Armand and Daniel’s relationship in the books with how they’ve set themselves up here. Cuz it’s def an aspect I’d love to see. I don’t feel like Daniel being spared is just an act of compassion. As we’re seeing with this show, every little detail is so well thought out. Within the show and the show writers, they keep mentioning how we’re so focused on Armand being a threat when we should really be focused on Louis. And my brain is turning and turning trying to figure that out.

StevesMcQueenIsHere

I think Louis is more the threat because he took out the coven and burned the theatre down.

SoooperSnoop

Louis seems to have a temper that he STILL cannot control...he will kill when he is riled up. And now that I think of it, that temper and loss of control sitting just below a polite veneer may be one of the reasons Lestat was so drawn to Louis...

rogueVakarian

Yes! Louis killing Fenwick and Storyville burning down. Louis killing the coven and setting the theater on fire. I agree. Lestat thought he’d take to vampire life, no problem! And in the words of Daniel “and then what?“ 😂
