May have been an exploding transformer if you can't find a better answer.

neature_nerd95

I had this thought too but I’ve heard something like that before and this was completely different

Urban_FinnAm

I have the My Shake app on my phone and there hasn't been any seismic activity anywhere near Iowa.

Amesb34r

That’s what they want you to think!!

BadRabbit70

Kaiju. Gotta be.

IHaveGenderProblems

The cornfield paradox

Realdeal19777

That is strange for the simple fact that a fault line runs right through Iowa. Could be coming!

Urban_FinnAm

True, but forgive me if I'm not going to hold my breath. The New Madrid fault is more likely to rupture sooner than anything in Iowa. That being said it's not going to be pretty when it does. (The Iowa fault I mean. We already know what the New Madrid fault can do.)

Dependa

The here was a very visable meteor to the west around that time last night.

natnightly

sorry, I fell out of bed last night /j in all seriousness it was most likely electric shenanigans as suggested by others, on the bright side, I'm guessing it wasn't too big of a deal.

neature_nerd95

It was still creepy as fuck though lol

ImWrong_OnTheNet

I was driving into Clarion around 10:15 , more or less. Wife and I saw what looked like a large firework plummeting to the ground. It was barely a second. To me it looked like a greenish object with a yellow spark tail, and split into two right before it disappeared. No idea beyond what we saw. Flare? Space debris? It was very bright.

neature_nerd95

I started questioning if maybe it was a meteor or something space related.

TallTreesTown

Swamp gas from a weather balloon reflected the light of Venus

rbetswor

Had the same exact thing happen to me about ten years ago out on I-88, complete with green flares. Found out when I made it home to IC that it was a meteorite breaking up over central Illinois

Dependa

There was a very visable meteor to the west last night that did have some greenish hues to it.

Altruistic-Potatoes

Sonic boom from Air Force training. We get them all the time in Lee county.

nudistiniowa

Probably a (small) meteor. Be glad it didn't smash you while sleeping! Now go look for the small impact point!

Noshkanok

Random theories: kids messing with tannerite out in a field; a minor geological event like mudslide, sinkhole, due to recent flooding; aftershock from a very large, distant thunderclap?

StressPickler

My guess was also going to be tannerite. My neighbor played around with it last year—my windows rattled and it sounded like a bomb went off in my house. He ended up burning down a shed with it also. He’s a winner.

Godiva_Shaman

do you mind sharing where in Wright County? i’m from Clarion originally and have family and friends in Goldfield, Dows, and Belmond so i could ask around!!

neature_nerd95

Belmond!

sleepybear84

Home town

DivePalau

Sonic boom from plane?

IowaGal60

It’s almost always squirrel vs transformer and the squirrel lost.

AggravatingField5305

Did Trump have a rally near there? It could have been a transformer blowing when all the Boomers started charging their lard carts.

Pirateboy85

😂

moldguy1

Hahaha what is a lard cart?

AggravatingField5305

Motorized scooters for the morbidly obese magas.

False_Cobbler_9985

Hey, I resemble that remark.

AggravatingField5305

You ride a mobility aid. Big difference.

moldguy1

Hahaha gonna use that now

mrscarytt

You got some pretty pesky poltergeist there! I’d get that looked at, but, who you gonna call?

Brilliant_Warthog_27

Last night had something similar happen in Adair. I’m tossing it up to a meteorite or sonic boom from plane. Very odd and scared the fuck out of me lol
